The cupboard isn't bare. Not this year anyway. If Frank was still menacing the sideline, I'd feel pretty good about this team. With oscar, well maybe we can use that chicken nuggets to soothe our ripped buttholes.
-

You shouldn't bother with posts like this, because the resident Frankite Mafia gets all mad.
But setting Captain chicken nuggets aside, Frank left behind Rodney, who, is really nothing more than a slighly above average basketball player, and a bunch of guys who are industrial diamond grade at best in the DITR spectrum.
The problem that one faces when you bring this up is . . . the Frankite Mafia is all, "yeah, yeah we thought Frank's recruiting sucked to . . . but he did get a verbal commitment from a really tall guy in his last 'class'."
oscar isn't a JYC coach and all Frank got was JYC quality players who aren't really high major D1 players, except for 1 or 2.
-
Can we all agree that our record wouldn't be any different with any other coach?
-

Outside of Rodney this is a DITR team with to many industrial grades.
Capt. chicken nuggets is soft serve trying to coach a relatively un talented JYC team.
-
Can we all agree that our record wouldn't be any different with any other coach?
No, we can't. The vast majority of the guys we have on the squad were recruited for Frank's style.
-

No, we can't. The vast majority of the guys we have on the squad were recruited for Frank's style.
So which games would've had a different outcome with a different coach?

Or a different outcome with no coach?

What in the world is your point?

Yeah, I guess I kind dnr'd your post. Thought you said the team wouldn't be any better. My bad. :embarrassed:

That a meltdown today is silly. We won. Only game we've lost is to a great team.

To lay a foundation for future failure would be my guess.

Serious question and not a PI; do you not know enough about basketball to see the problems? Saying we won and that should be good enough is at best ignorant. Would you be good with a 3 point win at Prairie View A&M? If so you might want to sit these conversations out. GW is terrible, terrible by any measure. I've been as pro-"we're going to be good this year" as anyone on this board. We have some very real problems, once again this team showed that not only are they challenged to score, but they have times where they are completely disinterested in guarding. They are soft, which is the worst indictment.
If you saw anything to be encouraged about outside of "we won" I'd love to hear it.

I'll admit, I don't have HBBIQ. I've always been a baseball first, football second, basketball third person, but I'm planning on being in these discussions this year.
I see the problems absolutely. We looked completely disinterested in the 1st half, and frankly we could've been down more if we weren't getting cheap air ball put backs from Nino. After Will's 3 that put us up 7 or whatever, I said that GW wouldn't be able to score enough and we'd win by 12-15. Yeah, we don't defend well, but I'm hopeful we'll improve.
I'm encouraged that Angel took over the game, and won. I absolutely think that we should be encouraged by his play in the last 10 minutes.
My point was more that choosing today to decide "The cupboard is bare, I'M OUT!" is stupid.
The next 3 games will tell us a lot.
-
Positive: angel stepped up and did what needed to be done.
That could just be how wyatt presented it. I mean, I couldn't actually see the game.

Why is it stupid to decide that today was a tipping point? Is there a certain amount of times that we have to look bad before it is acceptable for people to be upset? What's your number so we can use it as a guide?

Angel was definitely a positive. Also, Will played like he should against a bad mid major, which was nice.

Angel was great. Will had a great 5 minute stretch, he did his usual disappearing act for the rest of the game.

Its acceptable for people to do whatever they want. I get the combination of apathy and anger in our fanbase. Today wasn't my tipping point, if it was someone else's, that's fine. My tipping point will probably be a bad loss, rather than an ugly win.

So you base your assessment solely on the final result on the scoreboard, fine I guess. There is certainly conversation to be had about what happened during the game and what happened was certainly worthy of a meltdown. Michigan, Gonzaga, or Florida would have killed us today.

If we win or lose that game it wont change the fact that we were crap today. No one will be served well with I told you so.
We're going to lose BTW

Cartier is well within his rights to hold out hope. I still thinkr 10 and8 but this league sucks and we will probably not have a top 50 win all year. Probably still make the tourney. Definitely getting bounced in the first weekend. We are ho hum. Not a single player is better than last year. Angel did not have a good game. Will had a freshman Will game. JOis gmaybe even worse.southwell did not play a minute. NiƱo started and gip out played him for most of the game DJamer played like a fresh Jin. His first true roadie. And I don't know if mcgruder is going. To be enough to do everything. At this point it looks like he will have toforthis team to do anything more then meh their way through this year. Ugh.
-
Don't worry guys. As soon as Hoskins comes back, everything will be fine.
-
No one is telling him not to hope, just that he shouldn't be calling people silly for being pissed about how we looked today.
I called 10-8 for this team a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm taking it back. They have had 4 straight disinterested-to-pitiful performances, more of these than the alternative, enough for me to think they are what they've shown at this point. The conference stinks but seeing our peer schools the last couple of days, I think we are worse than UT, ISU, and OU. We certainly would have lost to the teams these schools lost to this week. We'll have some games when we will make some jump shots and win a game or two that we shouldn't, but no way this team playing the way they have played the last month, will finish 10-8.
-
No one is telling him not to hope, just that he shouldn't be calling people silly for being pissed about how we looked today.
Yeah. You're right.
-
the offense will be fine. mcgruder will hit shots. art will get healthy. weber will admit defeat and let the team set high ball screens for art and points will ensue.
defense and dboarding are more of a concern. weber's had some good d teams, this team just doesn't seem like they want to defend that hard. i don't really know about how that will work out.
-
The method our guys use to defend perimeter screens will kill us in conf with the guys we have and how they are playing.

We thought the cupboard was bare too but we hopefully are halfway decent.

Man, Will has to feel pretty good. He had several possessions today that would've resulted in a 30-second timeout rage fest followed by being benched last year.

This season will be a case study in a tyrant demanding rebounding, defense and toughness versus the same players shooting jumpers while filled with a peaceful, easy feeling.

Frank left behind a 5th place Big 12 team, that beat a C-USA team in the 1st round in the NCAA tourney.

yes. minimum expectations are to repeat last year. minimum. since we weren't that good last year, this should not be hard. 8 seed and one tourney win. anything less should be unacceptable.

Yes, can't wait to see people who trashed Jamar last year make him seem like he was Blake Griffin when they scramble to defend oscar this season. There is no doubt this team is worse. The only player who is seemingly better is Angel.

I think Will is better, but it's marginal and considering last year, not hard to do.

That's a fairly reasonable expectation, but I wouldn't expect much more than that . . . there's simply not a lot of good basketball players in this program right now, and I doubt oscar is going to do much better on the recruiting trail than Frank did, which pretty much means both could barely out-recruit a dead man.

I wish I wouldn't have bothered to watch that shitshow yesterday. We rough ridin' suck, how can a team regress this much with everyone back? Eat a giant bag of crap and dicks oscar and Currie

The previous regime was perfectly capable of putting on a great shitshow, here's an example of one, and I consider getting beat by Iowa State and Oklahoma last year a combined FOUR times about as big a shitshow as you can possibly imagine. That's why K-State was a 5th place conference team last year.
Score by Periods 1st 2nd OT Total
North Florida 25 35 8 68 Record: (5-5)
Kansas State 32 28 19 79 Record: (6-1)

Record right now? Yes.
Record in 2 months? No rough ridin' way.
Losing record in conference, NIT (maybe).

We will finish lower than 5th this year, and the conference is considerably shittier.
-
For much of the game yesterday, Angel was terrible. I am solidly #teamangel, but yesterday was pretty bad.
This team is going to win 8 or 9 big 12 games and miss the tournament unless we improve significantly.

That North Florida game was awful, no getting around that, I witnessed it first hand. The difference in my eyes and others is that we knew that Frank was doing Frank things to sacrifice the short term for long term success. It was an argument that we had multiple times on here last year and I was right about it. I'm not sure this is going to be the case with oscar, there is evidence that he is with his ever changing rotations, trying to find what works now and settling in when January rolls around. I just don't trust that we are going to take a big leap forward this season.

This team will go as far as Angel and Rodney take it. We need others to play well (Will, JO, Gip), but those 2 are the keys to the season.

I don't expect our lazy defense to get better at all. I knew we'd be lazier, bit didn't think it would be as bad as it is.
Franks team also had problems with not being interested in games against lesser opponents. :dunno: Also our out of con schedule this year suck balls

That's revisionist, Frank's teams never looked lazy and disinterested. They looked very incapable at times, they never looked lazy.

I was uninspired by the win today. Of course, it's a win.

It's a terrible mix right now. oscar Weber's system on a marginally talented team built to play a JYC brick and board offense.

Hey Fan..I agree with your take on Angel and Rodney....I will add one thing a lot of posters on this board miss. If JO hadn't turned it around the last 5 or so games last year Frank would have had the results of almost a trainwreck. JO saved the season. 5th Place!! We badly need JO to duplicate last part of last season to be really successful. JO has had about a 5 game stretch in 3 years that was great. We badly need that this year.
