post Phoenix-y stuff here or whatever
-
Staying right by stadium Wednesday and Thursday. Getting in town late wed night and one guy thurs am. Should be able to throw a decent tailgate right at our hotel.
-
Staying in downtown Scottsdale. Supposed to be the best bar district in the Phoenix area. Flying to/from Vegas and driving down.
-
Scottsdale NYE party is OK. If you're driving down, plan on stopping at a casino about every 2 hours. Phoenix in January is perfect hoodie weather at night.
-
Jeezis
Southwest in & out of Vegas on 12-31 & 1-5 is $320...same dates in & out of PHX is $995
Vegas NYE Pak followed by a caravan into PHX hungover as eff on 1-1 sound good to anybody?

Caravan down from LAS on 1/2 here to catch the pep rally :emawkid: back to the strip on the 4th for a postgame celebration weekend.
-
flights are ridic into phx...hoping that in a couple days maybe they drop down a bit into tus or phx from mci. might also look into driving up to omaha and flying down from there? idk. trying to buy tickets for 10 people so it's going to be a massive pain in the ass and probably impossible.
-
driving with bros....it'll kinda suck but its what evz
-
I did the drive in 2003, it's not unbearable if you have a van and multiple people switching driving, but still prob going to fly this time.
-
I've done the drive twice, both from Wichita, both times in a van, and both times I was young enough that I didn't have to drive. We also stopped in Tucumcari to overnight at a hotel and drove the rest of the way the next day.
-
there is a large hill the locals are proud of called camelback mountain, doesn't have crap on the konza and is also something only a mother would call pretty. scottsdale people are very uppity.. There are quite a few good restaurants though the salt cellar is pretty awesome
-

used to drive from phoenix to salina all the time with the fam growing up for christmas and stuff, but didn't have to worry about the hangover part. don't really remember it being that bad. i mean, flying is way better but if you've got some bros and free time i say go for it.

Went to the '97 Fiesta Bowl, once from MHK but wasn't old enough to drive, stayed in Albuquerque on the way there
-
AMTRAK train from newton to flagstaff, rental car. 20 hours in train.. :dunno:
-
My bro lives in Tempe, I will ask for some insidery local info.

Same
-
Flying out Wednesday morning and back on Friday morning. I can already feel the hangover.
-
I'm spending the night in Albuquerque on the evening of January 1. That'll be pretty strange I bet.
-
try getting there from michigan.... still dont know if i'm gonna drive or fly :dunno:
-
Between the proximity of the game to NYE/holidays, and the fact that lots of people winter in the PHX area, flights are expensive and already selling out fast. I traveled 150 days/year last six years or so, trust me; if you plan to fly to the Fiesta Bowl, book ASAP. southwest.com is already sold out on 12/31 and 1/1 for their "wanna get away" fares. I booked 4 tickets today and we're going MCI-TUS (Tuscon). R/T airfare from MCI-PHX was in the $800-900 range, and the options weren't great (early departures, multiple connections etc).
K-Staters in southern KS looking for alternative air options should check out SW Air out of Will Rogers Intl (OKC). Can get into Tucson cheaper that way than Phoenix.
Tucson just over a 90 minute drive, not bad.
Anybody here where the pep rally and official University pre-game will be yet?
-
Going to game first, then vegas. Flying everywhere. Between LAS/DEN/PHX its impossible to get a flight on SW over $100
-
Flying to Tucson is tons cheaper than flying into Phoenix. There are shuttles that run from Tucson to Phoenix as well. I live in Tucson and will be making the 1 1/2 hour drive to Phoenix for the game on Thursday. :driving:
We shall figure out something for tailgating as well.
-
Just booked the round trip flight from Santa Ana to Phoenix for $179  . Getting in on the evening of the 2nd and heading out the morning of the 5th. Don't think I'll make it in time for the pep rally.
I was in Tempe 4-5 years ago for NYE and had a blast downtown. Other than that, no clue on what to do or where to go.
-
Anybody know wheat time line we are looking at for the AD to start announcing events that will take place in Tempe (Pep Rally, etc)?
-
Seeing things that there may be buses organized for game day transportation which would really help out with pregame paking.
-
This is the travel thread. Please keep pep rally and other loser topics to their own thread, tia. Also, include dates you're traveling when you talk about your flights. Having troubs finding stuff for under 600 bones right now. :frown:

SB,
try looking for flights on the 31 and the 4th...
I ended up using airline miles.

Don't take a wrong turn!!

Booked mine a week ago.
-
Have a few bros flying into my town and we are driving down on the 2nd. Drive out on the 4th. Dlew we might see you on the road...

booked it saturday night after the game out of kansas city for $376
this is what's really making me sick, I found tickets at around that price on saturday night but couldn't get my phone to work. then it died and I figured I would book when I got back to KC. because of the fog didn't get into KC until after 3 and passed out before I could get it done.

It'll prob be cheaper to fly instead of drive from Northern Colorado depending on how many your bringing. I am paying $80 a head out of Denver

I don't know how close either of you are to Montrose, but Allegiant has round trip from Montrose to Mesa Gateway for $118 for 1/2-1/5. The 1/2 flight gets in at noon, leaving you pleanty of time to get to the pep rally if you want.

Booked flight for me and the wife 4th quarter Saturday night. Staying in Phoenix, but may try to find someplace closer. Have connections with a couple current students and will be sitting with the students at the game - most excited about this. :lynchmob:
-
Originally was going to take the train from Topeka to Flagstaff, rent a car and drive down to the game. 22 hrs on the train sounded like a nightmare, but better than being in a cramped car. Train was $372.
Then started looking at Southwest flights. Managed to book MCI to Vegas for $150 and $170 back. Since we were going to rent a car anyway no extra $ there except for the gas. Vegas hotel was cheaper too. 5 hr drive from Vegas to Phoenix, but I'll totally get to see cool fun things like the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon!
-
Do not ever ride a train if you have to be some place on time. There is a good chance the trip will take 30 to 60 percent longer than advertised.

This is the correct play. Did it in 2003 and again this year. Vegas >>>>>>> scottsdale

flights dropped big time today, were up over $700 last night, but I was able to book 6 tickets from MCI to TUS for $417 a head about an hour ago
flying on AA :curse: and connecting in DFW both ways
-
flying out of Denver thru Spirit airlines. $240ish total for wife and I going to Mesa airport. Used coupon code 24OFF and got $48 off($24 per person)

be careful not to take any luggage, go to the bathroom or breathe on the flight so you don't incur extra fees
-
yeah the extra fees sucked but it was still the cheapest option. we just did a checked bag for $30 for both of us. Hopefully we don't lose the luggage(the tics will not be in them!!)
-
Don't carry anything on either. Sounds terrible and Southwest from DEN to PHX wasn't that much more when I booked at least (80 or so more). Good luck. Let me know how bad Spirit is.
-
yeah carry on is $5 more than a checked bag freaking rediculous. I would of flown a different airline just on principle but we're already out $150 from the Miami booking(saving that flight change for another trip)
-
Frontier was around $330, but $375 for me to transfer my FLL Classic level ticket w/ bags. Flying NYE-Friday from DEN. Some EMAWs are going to be staying at the Hampton Inn Phoenix/Tempe near ASU.
-
Flights are too pricey. Driving down from Wichita on Tuesday. Staying in the bar district in Scottsdale (Camelback and 7th) for about $170/night. Got 6 of us so not to bad splitting gas/hotel.

For a non-stop flight that arrives the day before and leaves the day after and isn't $600+ I'd say it's a pretty good deal

meh....of course flights to phx not from the midwest are going to be a good deal...$350 seems like a ripoff actually...glad you got a good deal though, more EMAW the better

KCI has it advantages...I hardly ever pay $350 to go anywhere... definitely will be improved with the new terminal.
-
Single peeps, hit me up. You're all sick of #fanningbrags which I totally get, but so far this trip is free(paid for). If anyone needs a free place to stay, I can accommodate based off liked poster status.

Since we are driving, we are thinking of tailgaiting. Any of you know what side EMAWers are on? Looks like I can get a pass to either the Orange lLt (West Side) or Gray Lot (NE side).

I don't think people are sick of #fanningbrags®. That said, we've already got a fairly large group of people staying in Scottsdale.
-
we are staying in tucson on the 2nd, tempe on the 3rd and 4th and back to tucson again on the 5th
fly into tucson late on the 2nd and leave early on the 6th

When Baylor scored to make 45-24 I looked and you couldn't do less than $350 for Wed - Fri from KC, STL, OMA on SW. The Fiesta is just bad one to fly to due to only 1 close airport. It is the worst of all the BCS bowls and I am glad we are ditching it for the Sugar and hope we get a deal with the Orange or elevate the Cotton for a second BCS tie in.
-
possible thing for North Central Kansas Cats? $560 RT per ticket right now. have never flown allegiant and don't plan to but it's still available.

FLY OUT OF GRAND ISLAND NE!!! Reply
Just booked a one way from Grand Island NE to Mesa for 99$ via Allegiant. After all the add ons it came to 124$ which included my 24 hr cacelation. Return flight on Expedia for 191$ after all my add ons which also included the 24 hr cancelation. 315$ total. Right now I'm going by myself but should change tomarrow when my two buddies join. Anyone looking for cheaper flights need to look at this setup!
Hope this helps, cause I want to see 45 thousand strong in Phoenix Jan 3rd!!!
-
US Air has 40k RT availability out of Omaha flying out the 2nd and back the 4th, 5th or 6th. Not great but it's something, and they are direct flights for anyone living near here. 50k availability in 1st class but it's a CRJ 900 so first is super pud (though nice if hung over on the ride home). There are coach seats for many different date combinations (some direct) for about $500 RT as well.
They have 40k RT availability out of KC as well but you have to fly out the morning of the game and back the 6th. Will arrive in Phoenix at 7:51 AM though. There's 50k award availability on that same early arriving flight and back the 5th or 6th.
EDIT: actually, there is one 40k RT award left flying out the 2nd at 9PM from KC and back on the 6th. didn't show up initially because I was searching for 2 people. so, if you have 40k US Air you want to blow and are flying solo out of KC that may be a good option.

The Orange Bowl opponent system has already been set and they've came out and said they are pretty certain there won't be any tie ins to those other 3 bowls. Only that the best of the other 5 conf champs would get 1 of the 4 spots.

Question. Has anyone ever taken an RV on a long trip? Is it fun? Assume you're surrounded by fun people and are also a fun person.
-
Question. Has anyone ever taken an RV on a long trip? Is it fun? Assume you're surrounded by fun people and are also a fun person.
Yes, it is fun. Everyone will want to drive. Plan the driving shifts in advance. Only tell those people who are driving when their shift is. Only give the dealership/rental place the licenses of those people that are responsible enough to be able to not drink until after their shift is over. Then, when one of your buddies that has had a couple of beers and says, "I'll drive!" you can say, sorry buddy, I didn't know you'd want to drive. I would have had to give the dealer a copy of your license. My bad. Have another beer. Maybe you can drive the next time we do this."

Would you have somebody else drive it or would you just want to tow it around?

Why on earth would you want to drive an RV? I could see how riding in one and just boozing the whole way there could be fun, but driving???

Well like "the family" owns it. There are a few guys with CDL's that drive it to the stadium for tailgating every home game. I imagine those guys will do the bulk of the driving. I know they mentioned that I would drive too but I'm sort of in agreement with Nuts Kicked, would rather not have that responsibility. Would rather just drink and have fun.

I would have had to give the dealer a copy of your license. My bad. Have another beer. Maybe you can drive the next time we do this."
Oh we own the RV. I don't want to drive it. It's very big and seems unwieldy.
Would you have somebody else drive it or would you just want to tow it around?
Well like "the family" owns it. There are a few guys with CDL's that drive it to the stadium for tailgating every home game. I imagine those guys will do the bulk of the driving. I know they mentioned that I would drive too but I'm sort of in agreement with Nuts Kicked, would rather not have that responsibility. Would rather just drink and have fun.
Just do it. Another good rule: NO NUMBER 2's ALLOWED!

What? I thought the whole point of driving down in an RV was so you didn't have to
A) stop to poop and B) not have to poop at a gas station or rest-stop.
Maybe my priorities are off :dunno:

An RV would be sweet. The last two Fiesta Bowls I've driven from Wichita. In 1997 I was in my parents Tahoe with just me and the immediately family and it wasn't bad at all. It's a long drive and there is literally only one city between Wichita and Phoenix (Albuquerque), but we made it. Stayed overnight in Tucumcari. On the way back we went up to the Grand Canyon and came back across the Rockies in Colorado. Game was awesome, trip was awesome.
In 2003, I was with a mix of immediate and extended family. We had a minivan with 7 people stuffed into it. I was stuck in the backseat with my cousins and their chewing tobacco. Overnighted in Tucumcari again. Was awful. Game was awful. Worst trip ever.
But anyway like I said an RV would be sweet and way more tolerable than just cruising down in a car. You get room to stretch, move around, somewhere to pee, a TV, etc.

Is anyone here planning on attending the "Fiesta Bowl College Football's Biggest Party"? We are trying to decide if it's worth getting tickets for that or just to set up a tailgate on our own.
signed up for this on accident when i pre-ordered. didn't cancel in time and ended up having to bite the bullet. we will see what "tailgate style" food options they have.
I did it in '97 in Tempe. I nearly dehydrated because I had a crap ton of beer and chips and cheese/salsa. It was also crazy hot outside that day, there was a tent but the tent was very full and on a blacktop so many people were on the blacktop outside of the tent. We were also inside a cage, it felt weird.

Took an RV from kc to the Kentucky Derby for a bachelor party. Was incredible. Suggest having just one or maybe two drivers supplied with lots of their driving stimulant of choice (adderall, coffee, weed, meth... whatever) so that everyone else can get super pak'd the whole way. Make due you have lots of food on board.
It's the best way to travel*...ask bubbles4ksu about it
*be prepared for a three day hangover if you do this right

The RV will also cost roughly £100,000 in gas though. Good thing you are :kstategrad:

I'm actually pretty excited to drive through New Mexico. It's a state I've never been to, and honestly probably never would have seen/wanted to see. Thanks Wild Wild Cats!
-
New Mexico is the land of a thousand double wides. Where unemployment is more common than employment.
-
Northern New Mexico is great and beautifully peaceful and desolate. I dunno about the part we'll be driving through
-
NM is nothing exciting, but it's pretty awesome to drive through when you've just gone through the OK and TX panhandles. At that point you'll take anything.

Let me hope it's cool, you assholes. :dubious:

What asava said. Detour on highway 64 to Taos. What is a couple hours, anyway?
-
US 60 from Phoenix into New Mexico is an incredible drive if you have time. The Salt River Canyon crossing is very nice.
Also, Hwy 87 through Payson and Heber up to Winslow is a decent drive.

My grandfather bought a small piece of land near Taos with my father's money while he (dad) was deployed.

Yes truly awful

Any section 123ers? :ksu:
-
This is pretty bullshit. Just learned that my tickets were bumped from the $225 ticket to the $144 ticket. Sitting in Section 445, Row 23. Btw, shouldn't this be saved for the Roll Call thread?

Same here.. Did you talk to the ticket office and get any explanation? Was pretty pumped for EMAWshing behind #Life and yelling your turn is coming.

When you pre-ordered you did so knowing that this could happen, or at least you were supposed to know. The reason being that we were too far down the list and that the $225 tickets were all given to people above us.
-

If it makes you feel any better we got bumped from $144 to like the upper corner because we have literally no Ahearn points. Not sure how much ours will be in that section, but at least we'll be in the stadium and it's a lot cheaper than the Cotton Bowl at least.
-
Any section 123ers? :ksu:
I'm right beside you in 124.
Yes, these tickets look like crap, so does their website....All the other Bowl websites look good and have good format.
-
Just found out I'm in 139. Am I gonna get bumped?

Your upper corner tickets are probably still $144. The original $144 option included the upper corner of the KSU section. The only other option on the order form was $105, and they screwed up by making that an option as those are the student tickets. We put in for the $105 and got an email a right after the announcement saying we were getting bumped up to the $144 because they screwed up.
-
they haven't actually "bumped" anyone who was told they were getting better seats, have they? i'm assuming you guys mean that you were initially charged like everyone else for the max selected ticket price and didn't get your selection? if not, that sucks
-

i remember being told that i would be getting the $225 seats, being charged and then refunded as of yesterday and told the tickets were no longer available. i don't think it was so much "bullshit" as it was me being deeply saddened that i am not elite enough to warrant field passes.
-
Section 122 here. Looks like we're going to own 75% of that stadium
-
Here is how the elite are getting to the game
Http://fiesta.bowlbus.com
Only 5 spots left from Scottsdale. Seemed like a good option versus paking all day then trying to battle the white hairs driving 40 min. Can pak on the bus it appears.
-
Shows up too late though, missing all the good tailgating.
-

Yeah, I got hosed too. Was pissed about it, sent a really nice e-mail to the guy who told me that my tickets were secured, and nicely explained to him how disappointed I was about the process. I mean, really, we couldn't fit 20,000 people (if they paid for it) on the lower level?
I'm sorry, just not good logic. I don't know what section I am in yet, but I'm sure I'll know once he replies back to me tomorrow.
-
there was a lot of available info about the process well before apps were due, dunno why people are surprised at the seats they got (mine suck, knew they were going to suck)
-
If I had enough money, I would fly by private jet to the nearest airport, hire a chopper to get me as close to the stadium as possible, then walk in an hour before kick off. During the game, I'd make sure one member of my entourage bumped someone out of the best hotel suite in the area so my folks could have it. The next day, we'd head back. Then I'd say we had kicked a lot of ass.
-
I think this is going to be a fun game with lots of purple, hopefully we don't fall on our faces during the game
-

yep, fans doing their part. hope it's a great game.
-
I am sure it has been mentioned but a few questions:
1: How many seats does the stadium hold?
2: Has it been an official "sell out" yet?
-
From what I remember the stadium holds mid 60k though they expanded to high 70k for the superbowl.
-
Fiesta Bowl holds 73,000 seats. Game isn't sold out. Talked to a friend who works with the Fiesta Bowl, says tickets are still available but mostly single seats.
-
don't buy single seats from them. buy my extra single seat.
-
No, buy my seats. 4 lowers together in the K-State section and you get to sit right next to some elite EMAWs.
-
What sections are the students located?
-
Has anyone heard the deal on RV parking passes? Allegedly you can't tailgate from the RV spaces? Don't understand how that can be true. :sdeek:
-
What sections are the students located?
It's first level behind the end-zone. Not sure which side (north or south) yet. All I have now is a voucher to get a ticket at the stadium.
-

Students are in the SE endzone (field runs northwest by southeast). Our students are in the northeastern half of the southeastern endzone.
-

My understanding is that Parking area Brown is off limits for tailgating. RV parking lots area Green and Parking lot F, RV overflow.
-
I have 3 extra tickets in section 453 that I will sell at face value + my fees, PM if interested
Also have 6 extras in section 444 (upper level, midfield) that I will sell, PM me and make an offer if interested (lowest on stubhub in that section is $250)
Finally I have 1 lonely little extra ticket in section 435 that is right next to me :D that I will sell at face value (comes with the added bonus of getting to sit near me and my friends)
Oh and I have 4 extra parking passes also for sale

you are an a-hole.
-
full disclosure, I bought extra tickets and parking passes through my parents account when it looked like we wouldn't get the tickets we ordered on our own accounts because we have no ahearn points. then we ended up getting way too many when the ticket office got extra tickets.
-

No tailgates in the RV spaces would be un-American.

Why are people reserving like 40 tickets apiece?
Most people reserved the max quantity when we were banking on the national title game with the Fiesta Bowl as a contingency.

Stay in Tuscon if you can. People there smell fantastic and are much cleaner than the Phoenix crowd.

Im on my connecting flight right now out of kci. Open seating, so i took an available seat next to a couple guys. One friendly but the other not so much. Unfriendly guy gave me a cold look and I didnt know why at first. Once the captain let us turn our electronic devices on, he pulled out his laptop and opened the lid revealing his mizzou marching band desktop wall paper. The band was spelling out SEC naturally. Im going to keep an eye on him for suspicious activity. Seemed grabby when peanuts were distributed.

Fuq, sorry guys it's Holbrook AZ. 377 to Payson then on to Phoenix. My bad, the road is fine for r.v. travel.
Took this route home in 2004 and almost slid off the edge of a mountain.

The toll roads in OK are atrocious. Why didn't anyone warn me?

Rumblings that this crowd will set the record for most fans to ever fly interstate for a BCS bowl game.

Air travel and tickets were outrageous. It's just as warm here and I can get better coverage watching on the home 70".

Most Husker fans down here live in mobile home parks. That's the reason he lives in Mesa, that's where most of the trailer parks are. Invited a couple of husker friends I know over to my house earlier this year, and they thought the pool was a big bathtub and started stripping down and throwing their nasty dirt covered fat asses in the water, poured dish washing soap into the water. Took me a week to get all the dirt out of the pool, had to replace the filtering system. Complete poors and trash.

Cruising at 36000 ft over Iowa. Desolate and snow covered. Such a pud state. Brand New 737-800 is buttery smooth and quiet though. Attendant let me have an extra snack.

We weren't expected to win vs the sec runner up. Played them tough for awhile though.

Not sure if anyone has heard but both ASU and UA have mountains called "A" Mountain with the A painted their colors. Whenever a Pac12 team comes to Tucson or Tempe, they paint the A on the mountains their teams colors. I'm thinking some purple A's would look great in Tucson and Tempe.

"Why that didn't get reviewed is beyond me, it was par for the course on how that game was called."
Way to deflect the loss onto the refs Bo.

Garbage human being. Him and that worthless Suh need to get killed driving around drunk together

Good thing they got wasted by Wisky because Stanford would beat NU by 170 points. Assuming the refs didn't screw them, then it would be 270

So what should I do here and where are the EMAW hotspots going to be? Can confirm plenty of strip clubs.

Been done twice before, that ain't new baby!
-
There are tons of strip clubs. Last I checked, Jenna Jameson owns and operates one on Scottsdale blvd called Babes Cabaret. Not sure if it's still there or if she is still a part of it or not though. Check out Westgate in Glendale near the stadium for some great food/bars/entertainment. Mill Ave in Tempe is ASU's area with good bars/clubs.
-
Hotel lobby: young good looking EMAW family eating breakfast. Oregon fan walks in. Little kid runs over and yells "Aflac!"
-
Westgate blows, exact same bars as the PnL, worse ambiance.

Lots of EMAW at MCI today. Will report on the amount at DIA in a few hours.
If I don't report from DIA you can assume I've been taken as a political prisoner.

Are we sure about this . . . from what I've observed, bandwagon/T-Shirt Cornhole Nation likes to show up at non Cornhole sporting events dressed head-to-toe in Cornhole gear.
It's really kind of sad and pathetic, but not unexpected.
-
I'm here! All systems a go! :excited:
-
fly out of mci through dfw to tus starting at 5pm
gf's dad used to work for AA and can still get into the system and see the flight status...says coach is overbooked by 8 but there's room in first class...can only mean frugal, intelligent emaws are going to be crowding that rough ridin' plane!
