Not even in the "next four in"

well, the beauty (?) of this is is that we probably won't have to worry about this for a while.

Yeah, it's going to hard to argue we belong when we are undefeated and #1
-
The made up selection committee didn't put us in the fake Final Four? :curse:
edit...forgot "up"

We weren't even in their next 4 in. :chainsaw:

This is what is going to happen and why the push towards a playoff will not benefit KSU any more than the current system does.
KSU would have to finish undefeated in any case.
-
I think it would be different if our loss wasn't by 4 TD's to a team that barely made it to a bowl game.

Yep, and the playoff requires that we play a semifinal game before getting to a NC.
People loved ripping on the BCS, but it generally did a pretty good job of combatting idiots that rely on stupid, subjective standards like "the eyeball test" by including the computers. Neither the strictly human, nor strictly computer part was perfect, but the end results generally produced a quality, fair NC game.
A better way to do this would be to keep the BCS structure, but simply expand the field to include the top 4 BCS teams.
A perfect way to do this would be to only use the 4 teams in situations when (1) there are more than two 0 loss teams, (2) there are no 0 loss teams and more than two 1 loss teams, or (3) one zero loss team and more than one 1 loss team. In other words, if there is a clear cut national championship game, forget the semifinal.
But i realize that would never happen.

I don't, but YMMV. People will say its because of the size of the loss, but any other loss and they would have found a different reason. Lose to OU in overtime? -> KSU didn't beat an elite team. Lose to OSU in overtime? -> Lost at home and didn't beat that many good teams. There were zero games we could lose this year and still make the NCG. Any 1 loss SEC team will get in over KSU (and a few 2 loss teams given that they only lose to 1 or 2 loss SEC teams), and they will most likely have at least 3 of those.
-

Chingon, how much of this is a product of the SEC's scheduling pattern, arbitrary media hype, and actual deserved credit?
-
The problem is not with K-State, it is with the perception of the Big 12. People think we only have 2 good teams every year, sometimes 3. If we had 4 teams like people think the SEC has, then we could beat 2 and lose to one. SEC has low scoring game, so no good team is ever blown out. They have 2 good wins so you know their good, and their loss is to a good team. Since there are only 2 teams this year in the Big 12 that are viewed as very good, and we are one of them, we didn't have to option to lose to AND beat the other very good team.

IHMO its the SEC scheduling pattern (combination of early conf play AND making sure the top "name" teams in each division don't have to play each other). It's also a lot of hype and selective arguments from dumb sports-reporter people in correlation with the realization of where the $$ is made.

I am not so sure about whether the SEC actually has 4 "good" teams. That's the beauty of the system though, who decides what a good win is? Everyone forgets UGA getting killed. I mean I have no idea how Oregon can not be ranked above UGA, but the criteria for who deserves to go changes from year to year. OU has lost to teams with a combined 1 loss among them. Who has a better 2 loses? No one, but you say LSU and aTm have beat better teams. If that's the critera then UF should be above Bama who has beat 1 ranked team all year and lost to the other (ranked now that is).

i agree re. scheduling. the Big 12 should copy this ASAP. it clearly worked in the BCS structure, and due to the nature of polling (better to lose early) it will probably work in the committee model too.
in a round robin, the conference is going to cannibalize itself, but it's better to get the cannibalizing over with early rather than late. accordingly, bedlam and CTR should be scheduled in the first three weeks of conference play. it's all about avoiding the top 50% of a conference losing late.
-
I'm going to cheer so hard against SEC teams in every bowl game this year. You guys have no idea.
-
I say the Big 12 does conference play for our first 9 games, then schedules pud teams for our last 3.
-
oh man, the selection committee is really going to suck
-
I think going to an 8 team playoff is going to happen soon after a few teams get fk'd over. Either that or the committee will need some ground rules- Conference Champs from the big 5 conferences get into the playoff over a team that isn't a Conference Champ but has the same amount of losses- KSU/Bama get in over Oregon and Florida, BOOM problem solved.
-
I say the Big 12 does conference play for our first 9 games, then schedules pud teams for our last 3.
How about schedule pud teams in the exact middle or sometime in November? Don't want to somehow get screwed by SOS talks.

works out real well with KU as our season ender next year
-
I know this will never happen, but for as long as the playoff is only 4 teams I think there should be some requirements in place to make sure it doesn't end up being just a SEC playoff. Something along the lines of top 3 conference champions (ND considered a conference champ if they're in play) plus 1 "wildcard". If that was in place this year the 4 teams would be ND, UGA/Bama winner, KSU, Florida.
Obviously still plenty of flaws and teams like Oregon, the Pac12 champ, and the loser of UGA/Bama would be upset, but if half the teams in the playoff didn't even win their conference it kind of defeats the purpose imho.

will college football ever be fair?
-
will college football ever be fair?
no.
-
Our omission from the top eight is tied back to our relatively low preseason ranking.
-
will college football ever be fair?
no.
I don't think so either. There has never been a national champion in college football, imo
-
Best game to lose would have probably been Miami.
-
Take out the BCS national championship, winners of the BCS bowl games go to a playoff.

Or at tcu.

UF was ranked lower than us I think....at least #24 on Sept 8th....

Correct. They were 23 and we were 22 in the AP. However it's hard to be butthurt over them being ahead of us when their only loss was to a top 10 team.

Yeah but I dunno...Florida is the 1 loss ND. If you need a miracle to win at home against ULL, and it takes an interception in the end zone to beat MIZZ...you might not be that good.

yeah, but they also beat LSU, @aTm, USC, FSU. Even if you acknowledge the SEC artificially inflates their crap, that's a nice list of wins.
And if we start the season in the top 10, we're likely ahead of a lot of the one loss teams ahead of us. (and all 2-loss teams).

That's great, but these bozos wouldn't have put us in an 8 team playoff either.
-
eff them :curse:
-
The best team from the best conference does not deserve a spot. IT'S MATH.
-
yep, it has a lot to do with preseason polls. they should wait to put out the first poll until 4 or 5 weeks into the season to get a better picture of who teams really are.
that won't happen, but it would be nice.
-
Stunningly, that meant Kansas State -- a recent No. 1 team and the presumptive 11-1 Big 12 champion -- did not make the committee's top eight. Most members could not get past the Wildcats' 52-24 drubbing by then 4-5 Baylor.
"Even though they [have] one loss, it's a nasty loss," said Moos. "That's why I left them out. The other ones we're talking about are overtime losses and tough opponents."
"I just think Texas A&M and Oregon would beat 'em," Smith said of the Wildcats. Asked if he would have said that even before the Baylor loss, Smith replied: "Yep, I would have."

I hope Bill Moos and Gene Smith both get rough ridin' fired in the near future. eff both of those clowns. :chainsaw:

Can't wait for the new rule that will be named after us but never actually benefit us.

Yes. They're going to have to start numbering these...then again, with the BCS going away, maybe they won't have to.

I think they should wait until November 1.
But yeah, I don't think TV would allow it.
-
You guys aren't stoked to see 3 SEC teams and whoever finishes undefeated out of Oklahoma/Oregon/Ohio State play in the BCS playoffs every year?
-
I honestly think the playoff should only include conference champs. Instead of trying to pick the 4 "best" teams, they should just try to pair the 4 "most deserving" teams. None of these teams play even close to the same schedules, so it seems pretty arbitrary and ridiculous to me to say that 2 teams from one conference are head and shoulders better than a champion from another conference who played a completely different schedule. Allowing more than one team from a conference diminishes the regular season.
