Title: Food court sampling
Post by: michigancat on November 29, 2012, 03:38:47 PM
I go to this office food court every now and then, and I've noticed that people (mostly women) that walk around drinking soup in condiment cups while figuring out what they want at the salad bar or something. I see it just about every time I go there.

Is this normal behavior? It seems so weird, but I've never really been in an office food court before.

Are people handing out these small cups of soup?

Are people handing out these small cups of soup?

no, people grab a dressing cup at the salad bar, go to the soup, fill it up, then walk around sipping the soup.

I don't think that's normal.

So they are stealing soup?

is this comparable to sip stealing your drink? like you sip out of your drink and top if off again before you pay for it?

no, because they aren't buying the little cup of soup. The equivalent of that would be filling up a bowl of soup, taking a couple bites, and then refilling.

You should go up to one of them and tell them that you just saw them steal that soup, and if management were to find out, heads might roll.

Inform them that it's a cafe, not a buffet.

Get a slightly larger cup (dixie cup?) and try it tomorrow. Do this for a while, then try a coffee cup.  After a while you could probs just steal an entire bowl without anyone caring/thinking bad about it.

I almost think these people are just pretending to browse the salad bar, and they are getting meals this way. But I know they're rich, so that angle doesn't make much sense.

Winona Ryder is rich, and she steals crap all the time. I think they are just doing it for the thrill.

women just can't help themselves from stuffing their faces, this soup sampling gives them an excuse to eat while appearing to only be trying some crap.

how many times do you think this bitches have sampled the same soup?  millions is the correct answer.

Sounds about as 'merican as it gets to me, Saul.  Stealing food when you have the capability to pay, eating while trying to decide what to eat, generally being greedy fat fucks?  Check, check, check.  Verdict?  America!

Women do this in my building's food court as well.  However, we have different soups every day and they have little condiment cups next to the soup for this specific purpose.  The soup is placed so that it is in between 3 different stands where they make your food to order and you have to wait 3-5 minutes.  I think they are trying to tempt you into trying the soup so that if you like it you will buy a bowl.  There's always 4-6 women roaming around with these cups while they wait for their panini to be warmed up.

Is it tomato soup? If so, perhaps you could solicit their opinions for inclusion in the Tomato Soup thread.  :lick:

I would sample the crap out of tomato soup.  Is that tomato soup over there?  Well I will do everything in my power to illegally sample that crap.  Mmmmmm like cocaine for the soul.

hmmm, I'll have to see if the cups are right next to the soup next time I go. The soup isn't in between the panini place or the grill, though. It's way out of the way.

rusty, what's the point at issue here?    I don't want to waste anymore time with these ancillary talking points.

let's really let the rubber hit the road on this one.

Not proud of it, but I used to fill up the styrofoam fountain drink cups with chili at the student union.  It was like 32 oz of chili for $1.09 or whatever a drink cost.

I did that with the coffee. Not really because i wanted to steal it but just because the coffee cups only went up to 20 oz.

Never stole a hot dog, and I didn't exactly STEAL the chili, just didn't pay full price.  Wait, I guess that's a form of stealing.

I hope you're happy CartierFor3. John Currie is not going to be patrolling the food court looking for food hidden in large styrofoam cups.

topeka high had a soft serve ice cream machine, got a paper cup for a quarter. They had a line you weren't supposed to fill it past but I regularly violated that rule.

We have 2 soups every day in our cafeteria and they leave the little dressing cups right next to the soup just for sampling.  Women AND men go around the salad bar with their sample cups of soup.  I think this probably happens everywhere.

People saw.  But it was always like a cashier or some low level pud.  So they didn't give a crap and neither did I.

there's a chicken place here that you can get a small cone of soft serve with your meal.  all the time, i see people emptying their large drink cups and filling it with soft serve.

how does that fit on the stealing scale?  i mean, you're not paying for the ice cream anyway, so if you take more than you are supposed to is it really a bad thing?

i'm torn on that issue.

The joke is on those people, really, because every time they look in the mirror, they have to see their fat face. When you cheat, especially on food, you are cheating yourself first and foremost.
