So the small Iowa college kid scores 138 (http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/67739/how-do-you-score-138-points), but IMHO these games are even more ridiculous when looking at advanced stats/four factors.
Total Pace PPP eFG% TO% OR% FTR
Grinnell 122 1.46 61.0% 13.9% 52.9% 11.8%
F Bap 122 0.85 61.0% 40.1% 35.3% 9.8%
And for reference, Grinnell's season Adv Stats from last season (they went 18-5):
Total Pace PPP eFG% TO% OR% FTR
Grinnell 93 1.19 53.9% 16.0% 36.9% 31.1%
Oppon 93 1.06 60.2% 29.1% 41.1% 51.4%
The craziest stat is that opponents don't shoot 3s against them (because they are shooting tons of lay-ups). They shot 1227 last year, opponents shot 173. In this game they shot 80, the opponent shot 6.
If I went to, or coached at, some small college like this I would love it. Why not?

don't ask bart ray gun what he thinks about this kid and his 138 points. The ray gun is old school and believes that assists are important.
-
Add this coach to the coaching search master thread immediately

I enjoyed Ebonie Williams talking trash on the kid via twitter

The point total is amazing, but the truly baffling part is the how.
I mean, I bet the kid stood at his fav three spot and literally never moved. His team went and played D, then bombed the pass to him cherry pick style and he immediately shot a three, rinse and repeat 78 times.
I mean, how do you even have time in a normal game to create and then take 108 shots?
It would be one thing if they had some monster full court press and the other team never got past half court so the game was a bunch of steals/shots, which would be amazing in it's self, but that isn't what happened. They other team had a kid who got 70pts that game.
The how of all this is just baffling to me.
-
The other team did turn the ball over 2 out of every 5 possessions.
-
This achievement is considerably more impressive than wilt chamberlain, no? I mean, it's not even close.
-
Just watched the replay, pathetic, the guy never even got back on defense. Not impressive at all. Love that their coach pushes this system so much but has never won anything of note using it.

Its DIII basketball.
They've won their league a few times, made the playoffs a few times.
If I had to go to some D3 school and watch basketball, I would want something like that.

No I agree, I played them in college actually, middle of nowhere Iowa, obviously very hard to recruit. Plus D3 schools dont give athletic scholarships so you have to have something to draw players in.
-
no schollys? They dont have to drive themselves to games do they?

NCAA D3 and the NCCAA D2 (the division faith baptist is in) dont give athletic scholarships. You just have a bus, and small amount of money per meal on away trips probably <$10.
-
fwiw most people on this board could play NAIA/DIII hoops. strut n cut would probably murder people and get bumped to DII.

The coach is smart. Getting on espn did more for that program than multiple championships.

They play with a theoretical 8 second shot clock and play defense with the mindset of steal or bust, sub all the effing time.

Would be fun as crap to play that system.

Another day, another 100-plus point effort from Grinnell College's Jack Taylor.
The Division III star, who sent waves through the sports world last year when he dropped 138 points in a single game for the small liberal arts school from Iowa, was back at it again Sunday afternoon against Crossroads College (Rochester, Minn.).
En route to leading Grinnell to a 173-123 win, the 5'10" junior guard from Black River Fall, Wisc., dropped 109 points on the day, slotting his name just below his other name in the record books, per the school's official Twitter feed
After dropping 71 in the Pioneers' season opener, Taylor is now averaging a cool 90 points per game.
:surprised:

I feel like the Grinnell basketball team was invented by national sportswriters to give them a vehicle for preening, self-righteous columns.

True.
The Jeff (BPredict) vs Decourcy debate/battle on twitter the last several days has been very entertaining.
