-
How the eff did Jerry lose this thing?
-
His team locked him out of the locker room on Sunday, and things just went south from there.
-
How the eff did Jerry lose this thing?
I am assuming that the Bowl wanted to be the elite entity in the sitch rather than partnering with the elite entity.
The bowl probs has more leverage in NO than it does dealing with Jerry.

As consolation he will probably get the first National Championship game.

Am I the only one that was WTF when this came out because I thought the Champions Bowl was supposed to be its own thing?

Well, I mean, it had to take the spot of some bowl. we can't just throw another bowl in there matching up a B12 and SEC team. we already have 7 bowl affiliations for the 10 B12 teams. and the B12 champ and SEC champ are obviously going to be playing in a "BCS" bowl. so...yes? I think the question was always if it was going to be at Jerry's World and take the place of the Cotton or take the place of the Sugar in NO.

I thought that this was the Big 12 telling the Cotton Bowl eff off and the SEC telling the Sugar Bowl eff off and that there'd be a Champions Bowl that could be in either or neither or rotate to both of those cities and others. Not that the whole thing was about the Big 12 signing up to be the other team in the Sugar Bowl.

Yeah, that was dissapointing. I also wish it would still rotate.
-
So, do the two conferences still own it, or did they just sell it and Sugar outbid Jerry?
-
Am I the only one that was WTF when this came out because I thought the Champions Bowl was supposed to be its own thing?
Yeah. They've been saying for awhile that the Champions Bowl was just a holding name and it would branded/ran an one of the other bowls. However, there still is a "eff you" element to it, I think. The details haven't come out, but the talk before was that isn't going to be the same old Sugar Bowl. The TV rights are going to be with the conferences, not the bowl. The contracts between the conferences and the bowl are going to be completely different from before. It's no longer going to be "We agree to supply a team to your bowl and you are going to pay us". It's now going to be more "We have a TV contract for a game, but we are going to play the game in your city, under the brand of the "Sugar Bowl", and you are going to administer the game."
It's basically the confernces outsourcing the running of their bowl to the Sugar Bowl.
-
But when the four team playoff thing starts it will be in the semi finals rotation and in the years it hosts a semi finals game the b12 sec match up will play elsewhere,or something like that

Maybe I meant FY Fiesta Bowl instead of FY Cotton Bowl. :dunno:

That makes sense, although I don't recall it being pitched that way. Also, if that's how it went down and the Big 12 and SEC own whatever this thing is that we've hired the Sugar Bowl to run, I wish we'd hired both the Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl to do it and rotated it, so that we get the home game half the time.

Well, I hope that we licensed the Sugar Bowl name for like $1, and then told all of the current Sugar Bowl people to go do a John Goodman into the Mississippi.

Bama should go. AJ's mom would absolute love Bourbon Street.

I believe BITB said something today to the effect of JerryWorld is expected to be in the rotation for hosting the BCS Championship game, where as the Sugar will not. The Sugar had an open spot, so we took it...while JerryWorld won't necessarily have an open spot (every year).
I may also be way off on this, as I was listening while at work and didn't catch the entire conversation.

I think either you heard that wrong or BITB was wrong. Hosting a bowl game will be independent of hosting the NC game. They are still a very strong candidate to get one of the other 3 access bowls. That bowl doesn't go away or become the NC game. They'll just hold the NC game a week later, just like they do now in their rotation. Also, whether they host the champions of the Big12/SEC or are one of the other 3 access bowls, they'll still be a semi-final every 3 years. Both the Sugar and Cotton will have the same 3-year pattern.

They didn't originally pitch it that way, but once they put out the RFPs to the cities it became obvious that's what was going to happen. Cities with stadiums that could hold it weren't going try and do it without their existing bowl. I remember hearing a little talk that the rotation was a possibility, but it didn't go anywhere. Both the bowls would have gone through a 3-year Champion Bowl-National SemiFinal-Access Bowl rotation. I wish that would have happened too.

Kept the SEC out of TX.
