Seemed pretty effing bad. Too many QB runs on offense and too soft of coverage on D. The players really bailed the coaches out with some great plays.
-
Game was never in doubt, don't over think it.
-
CK plays into the fourth quarter, it's basically a rerun of the TT game.
-
Merely keeping it vanilla for the big road tests in Texas the next two weeks. Don't wanna reveal too much, you know.
-
:dubious:

Agreed. Once Klein went out it was about managing the game and not losing the lead...WTF happened to Hubert, he is he just sucking balls in practice?
-
It was frustrating to have issues in pass coverage and not get pressure against OSU's 3rd string QB.

Players or play calls (soft)?

I'll have to rewatch, but probably both. I couldn't believe we were getting beat so far down the field.
-
In my head I'm attributing some of this to just a weird game (CK on the bench) and Bill shelling up a little bit.

Yeah, I can go there a little bit too.
-
offense was brilliant w/ sams in the game IMO
-
The weirdest game I can remember. Just so many what the eff moments and great plays. I really didn't like the play calling on offense for most of the game. I don't think we have ran the QB that much since last year and I didn't see the reasoning for it.

Is hubes hurt?

I really didn't think we used QB run more than usual.
Pease was fantastic running out of the Wildcat tonight.

Pease had a great game

I really want to say Bill just gave a giant FU to OSU, and said you can't eff with us, so we're resting up and getting Sams some reps (I'm in denial that CK was anything more than bruised up).

Pease had a great game
first time that i remember the wildcat with pease actually working.

Just seemed like it then I guess...So is this what really good teams do, bitch about two td wins over top 25 teams?

Maybe we'll see it more in the future.
MAYBE?!

There's always room to get a little bit better. We need to keep the chip firmly planted on our shoulder.

yeah, it was pretty bad.

Yeah. You could tell he was excited about the win after the game. Thanks Angelo.

It was great. The defense was pretty awful but the offense did what it needed to despite playing with the B team.

I'll politely disagree. Only scoring 6 points and looking very anemic. The staff didn't seem to trust Sams while OSU was trying to win. The staff arguable took the ball out of Sam's hands by going to the wildcat. Which you can't blame them on one level, because OSU didn't know what to do with it in a lot of situations. Not really sure how they're weren't prepared for a running back at QB. But on another level they went away from Sams because he only had a couple good throws, one of which was audibled into I believe.

you mean the team that was down by 2 touchdowns with was being more agressive than the team that was up 2 touchdowns with a freshman qb?
you're right, pretty unheard of.
-
I just think that the coaches were trying to play not to lose tonight. That was a mistake, but glad that it didn't bite us in the ass.

This post has little to no relevance in response to my post. Also 2 "g"s in aggressive.

excellent post. I think the fact I just ate a PBnJ sandwich has relevance in this thread. Or we can get back to discussing how Sams was utilized by the coaching staff.
-
it's not my fault you're wrong and also have no reading comprehension.

says the guy who randomly interjected OSU comments in a thread about how our coaching staff was preforming, specifically at the times utilizing Sams.
-
Sean's kicking/coverage special teams were bad. Give up a pooch kick for a TD? Almost give up another one, saved only by the returner not quite walking the tightrope? Miss a chip shot field goal for the 3-possession lead? 13 points gifted the other team by Sean's unit, which cancelled out the 10 points the return teams gained us.
Until Klein's and Lunt's injuries, the team was really clicking along, and it looked like it was going to be a pullaway job for the third week in a row. Defense had had a pretty good game until then. Gundy's staff did a better job of adjusting on the fly to the injury situations, which showed by their outscoring us after the injuries. Chelf came in and hit passes and OSU seized momentum. Both our offense and defense went hot and heavy into "don't lose the game" mode, which wound up working, but made our defense look more like last year's "bend heavy but don't break all the way" mode, instead of the more aggressive style we've seen this year.
-
good point Slimz. I was very surprised at how tight everyone got with CK going out.
I wonder if OSU staff was able to make the adjustments faster because they have been dealing with it all season.
-
Well, at least we won't be reading our press clippings this week. Gives us some stuff to practice and get better at. Maybe this type of game is just what we needed at this point in the season. But also, maybe not. No way of knowing.
-
Sean's units were awful. He needs to stop getting cute and kick it for a touchback.
The Risk/Reward during kick off just isn't there, save it for returning them.
Bill made a bad call not going for it on our 4th and 1 situations. The line was getting a huge push on every single down (we're talking 3+ yards), Not sure how he didn't notice that.
Having Pease run the Wildcat down on OSU's goaline instead of kicking a missed FG would have worked.

the way of knowing is by seeing how much we beat baylor or tcu by next week. or the week after. if that's when we play.

They went to Pease because Sams tweaked his knee. The game plan was fine when your first 2 quarterbacks were hurt.
-
I thought the fact that we got little to no pass rush was what hurt us most. Even when we blitzed & got someone in the pocket, they scrambled for decent yardage.
-
Remember when we only beat Flood Aggie by 6, and it was kinda, meh?
Then we went on the road the next week and hung 55 on Coal Aggie.
Looking forward to that this week.
-
The reason it looked like there was no pass rush in the 2nd half was because OSU was holding on every play. One they figured out that this ref wasn't going to call a hold, they started holding. We still got some pressure, but then he'd roll out and they'd hold. Smart on their part. I'm pretty sure this is the same crew that did the TT-WVU game where WVU held on literally every play and never got called for it.

Seems like a lot of LFIQ in this thread. :dunno:
Special teams were about a wash. Got a TD out of it and two huge returns late that set up FGs when we needed to keep a 3 score lead. Had we not given up that KO return it would have been a more comfortable second half. Had we made the last FG, the stadium would have emptied.
Had Klein not got dinged, I'm confident we'd have scored in the 50's. They had no answer. With Sams, we were just trying to run clock and not turn it over. The one long drive in the 4th Q was huge.
I am more than a little disappointed we did not get more pressure on their QBs. Maybe their line is the best we've faced? Maybe they held like crazy and never got called? Even so, they sure threw a slew of INTs. Thank God.

It looked like he was trying to cover up a limp after getting tackled. Pease played great in the wildcat, luckily.

Of ck doesn't get spaghetti brained we win by four tds. The only part that was God terrible was special teams

I'm fairly sure that Sams had a couple pass plays after his knee issue.
