I agree with Chuck but Claire makes a good point. L Journo World never shies away from hot button issues and controversy.

“ Pretty good. You can stay up late. ”
— Chuck Crawford, works at a training center, Ottawa
“ I think it’s stupid. One of the main reasons it was instigated by the government was so farmers had longer daylight hours. At the time 90 percent of the population lived in rural areas.”
— Claire Webb, works at an architecture firm, Milwaukee
“ I like it when there is more daytime. ”
— Danielle Hamrick, unemployed, , Lawrence
“ I used to live in Arizona and they keep the same time all the time. It was the way to go.”
— Nick Nepveux, graduate student, Lawrence

The spring forward makes sense for the world we live in for energy use and for me having the ability to see the world outside of work without headlights for a third of the year. The fall backward is as backward as anything gets. Dark earlier and intentionally? Woof.

Without the fall back, kids would be walking to school in the dead of the night.
I like it. I like long summer days, and I like getting the extra sleep in the fall. Who cares about how early it gets dark when it's freezing ass cold outside anyway?
-
I wish it was dark for more hours. eff sunshine, gross.
-
We should stay on daylight savings time permanently. Kids should go to school from 9:00 to 4:00.
-
I hate daylight savings time.

I hate daylight savings time.
It was pretty cool in college when the bar was minute from closing then...BAM...another hour. But aside from that, yeah, it pretty much sucks.

Seven PM kick, bars by 11 or 11:30, still have almost 4 hours of bar time!

I love it when people think it has something to do with farmers. Because it doesn't. And then I feel smarter than that person.

The OP quotes read exactly like the opinion line in the Wichita Eagle. JFC
-
i'm for it!
-
I like it
:ck:
except sunday is my day to get up with the kid
-
it's annoying and doesn't save energy.
-
Personally, I'm for as much daylight as possible. Golf is much easier to play in the light, rather than in the dark. Of course, my mind could be changed if golf courses installed lights.

Common ground thread seems appropriate

Over time, I've started leaning more toward that standard time should be permanent, but I'm fine either way with keeping one or the other permanent.
Should split the difference at 30 minutes and make that permanent.

No, the eff we should not.

So hot if it happens

Given that it unanimously passed the senate it’s almost impossible to imagine it won’t happen.

Crushing blow to big time change, the people (hopefully) win again.

Here’s the MHK graph from Weatherspark. If we go full daylight savings the winter months shift up inline with the rest of the year. If we go full standard time, the summer months shift down inline with the winter.

Well bad news then for you...if it passes, DST is becoming permanent.

I could go for some Daylight Donuts Savings Time. Kapow!

2022 will be the shortest year that ever was.

Is it going to pass the house? Not sure about the 830 KC sunrises in the winter but whatever enjoy more evening sun more than morning sun.

i can't understand why on earth anyone wants to keep DST but what they should do is put a provision in the bill that they will do it for a 1 or 2 year trial period, and if after those 1 or 2 years there is enough support to bring back DST then the bill goes away. I think most folks will find that its really fine and nice not having to change your clocks and eff with your sleep cycle.
Know what's the craziest thing i've learned about DST? Pre-having children, falling back always meant and extra hour of sleep and springing forward meant losing an hour of sleep. Do you know who doesn't understand or care about DST? Babies. They are going to wake up when they wake up. So falling back actually means getting up an hour earlier and springing forward means getting an extra hour. :surprised:
-
I've unintentionally fallen into a serious disagreement with a mother and her thoughts on DST. It was wild.
-
Probably take this to the being old thread but the recent time change has been the roughest yet. Really struggling here bros.

100p on the kids part. Those little Neanderthals just follow the sun and don’t give a crap about modern advancements in timekeeping.

Whichever one we are in now. That's the one we need to keep.

they should get rid of the winter too, many people think that life would be much better without the winter

I personally would like to get rid of DST. You know the early bird gets the worm, but I don't give a eff about what birds like.

Changing your clocks twice a year is incredibly pud. Just more #OutrageCulture. Sad.

For me, it's not about changing clocks. I use connected devices for my time tracking needs (do NOT trust my microwave, stove, etc.). Instead, it's rather depressing to be at work well after dark in the winter months.

I'm reminded of this dax cartoon:

i always think of that cartoon whenever someone is outraged that heads of state use airplanes to attend climate change summits
-
Guys, we did this in the 70s and supposedly people hated it.
-
I'm just hoping to get winter runs in after work in the daylight before the temp drops below 20. I'll be pissed if somehow the house doesn't pass this after the dumbasses in the senate weren't told how to vote against it.
-
Saskatchewan does this all the time and it's NBD, overly thinking about it is peak whataboutism

It will be different this time.
