There is something I've been wondering about and hoping someone here might know the correct answer. Say all four of Bama, Oregon, ND and the Cats finish undefeated...or really it can just be us, ND and Bama. Say ND and their media hype snakes their way in past us to play Bama. Who would the Fiesta choose to play us? They have first choice of the at larges. In this scenario ND and Bama obviously play in the championship. Oregon would go Rose. Florida State is tied to Orange. Sugar I believe would take the next SEC team correct? They are tied to doing so even if they lose Bama right? So let's say it's Georgia for argument sake. Whatever team comes from the BIG scrapheap goes Rose.
Who would that leave for us? The SEC would already have two in and can't have a third correct? This rule has not changed? So we have the following as candidates at this point.....Clemson? Louisville? Boise? (I will blow a gasket if our reward for this season is playing a Boise team that doesn't belong), Stanford? USC? I mean the pickings get real slim in a hurry with Ohio State being ineligible. Stanford and USC aren't bad options but Standford was just there and both them and USC could have multiple losses. The thing that could suck is if the Big 12 sends two to the BCS, our #2 will likely go Sugar to play a better opponent than what we would get in the Fiesta.
If my assumptions are correct and we do indeed get left out of the title game, I would much prefer Oregon go instead of ND because then we would almost assuredly get to play ND in the Fiesta in what would be a huge game. That being said, let's just go to Miami on Jan 7th.

Dax will be in heaven.

I hate your scenario.

I hate it too. And I hate the thought of playing Louisville.

ND has ZERO chance of passing us. ZERO.

Jesus rough ridin' Christ no one wants ND to get in ahead of us.
NO ONE

Jesus rough ridin' Christ no one wants ND to get in ahead of us.
NO ONE
Except Ubbs...for some reason he wants ND to pass us.
-
I could see ND jumping us if USC beats Oregon twice, but that's about the only plausible scenario.
-
If we're not in the MNC, I really don't give a crap who we play in the fiesta
-

If USC gets beat by Oregon twice it would devalue ND's presumed win over them.
-
Playing Louisville would be a really great option. They're a good program with tradition, major college football brand, East Coast TV markets, recruiting exposure, possible future Big 12 member, and on and on.

I agree. That's the opposite of what I said, though.
-
If Oregon loses, we are a lock. Better in the Human polls, and by the end of the year we will be better in the Computers. Not worried.
That being said. A Fiesta Match up with an undefeated ND team would be an okay consolation prize.

What if that happens, Oregon wins, we blow out ND, and split the polls for #1?

People need to calm down. This IS happening!!!!!

Sometimes I ignore the bad parts of panj and dax, but good christ almighty they can be insufferable.
-
if we go undefeated, i'm claiming a national championship no matter who we played in the bowl game.

What on earth is this $hit?

Why the eff is it concerning? I would rather play KU in any bowl, including the MNC, than a good team. An MNC or BCS bowl win is the goal, who gives a eff who it's against. I don't cheer for a good game, I cheer for a rough ridin' win, and a blow out win.
So yeah, bring on Boise, or whoever. Let's push their crap in, and polish our trophy.

He's trying to get transferred to the ND blog. Much easier to cover only one team and he can live in Chicago.

If it's the championship game, yeah, I'd like the easiest game possible. If it's just some meaningless exhibition BCS bowl game, I want to play the team that gives us the most exposure. WGAF about winning bowl games?

The worse the opponent the better. If we don't make the Championship game I'm rooting for Boise/ Louisiana Tech/ any crap Big East team.

BCS wins are kind of cool.

But BBS'ing with Alabama or Notre Dame fans would be so much more entertaining than Boise or Big East fans

Nobody, but everyone cares about winning BCS bowl games.

I like watching the cats play football against good teams. Winning bowl games against shitty teams is okay I guess, but as a fan I will remember and enjoy this season more thoroughly playing an undefeated ND or Alabama.
Exposure is great. Getting better recruits is great. But you want those things to accomplish what we have this season. Enjoy this one before you start looking to the next.

It would be fun to have a 'does playing Notre Dame hurt the image of our program?'

Who edges us out to be the most recognizable program in that scenario?
-
Who edges us out to be the most recognizable program in that scenario?
USC? I think most of ND's other rivals suck nowadays.
-
If USC wins out, we got it.
If Oregon and ND win out, it devalues the USC wins. we still got it.
If there's a scenario where Oregon splits and ND wins, our SOS is still better. we STILL got it.

If Oregon wins out they will leap. the human polls will take care of that

How bout anyone with HFBIQ. If we beat the pigaggies last year, we would've started this season top 5, and any discussion about us getting passed would be predicated on us losing first. People dont trust a team that couldnt get passed the 3rd best team in the SECwest to beat bama.
You can claim that was a different year blaa blaa blaa, but why do you think everybody was all over WVUs nuts. They scored 70 in a bowl game.
Bowl games matter.
Edit: cause sometimes I type like case mccoy looks

This is at least partly very accurate.

I would have tons of fun with that. Tons. Of. Fun.

I can't name one team that won a bowl game last year.

we wouldn't have been top 5 by beating arkansas
-

We sure as crap would've been significantly higher than we were.

define significantly. would it have put us higher than Oregon? If not than it wouldn't have mattered.
-
well, Oregon was 5th preseason so it wouldn't have mattered.

I was going ape crap during the cottonbowlchat and the other posters were loling at me and I could figure it out till after the game.

Yet here we are at #2, ahead of undefeated Notre Dame, Oregon, and Ohio State. Oregon won their bowl game, by the way.
