Title: A scenario that is concerning (maybe)
Post by: PurpleThreadCred on October 29, 2012, 04:43:09 PM
There is something I've been wondering about and hoping someone here might know the correct answer.  Say all four of Bama, Oregon, ND and the Cats finish undefeated...or really it can just be us, ND and Bama.  Say ND and their media hype snakes their way in past us to play Bama.  Who would the Fiesta choose to play us?  They have first choice of the at larges.  In this scenario ND and Bama obviously play in the championship.  Oregon would go Rose.  Florida State is tied to Orange.  Sugar I believe would take the next SEC team correct?  They are tied to doing so even if they lose Bama right?  So let's say it's Georgia for argument sake.  Whatever team comes from the BIG scrapheap goes Rose.

Who would that leave for us?  The SEC would already have two in and can't have a third correct?  This rule has not changed?  So we have the following as candidates at this point.....Clemson?  Louisville?  Boise? (I will blow a gasket if our reward for this season is playing a Boise team that doesn't belong), Stanford?  USC?  I mean the pickings get real slim in a hurry with Ohio State being ineligible.  Stanford and USC aren't bad options but Standford was just there and both them and USC could have multiple losses.  The thing that could suck is if the Big 12 sends two to the BCS, our #2 will likely go Sugar to play a better opponent than what we would get in the Fiesta.

If my assumptions are correct and we do indeed get left out of the title game, I would much prefer Oregon go instead of ND because then we would almost assuredly get to play ND in the Fiesta in what would be a huge game.  That being said, let's just go to Miami on Jan 7th.

If USC gets beat by Oregon twice it would devalue ND's presumed win over them.

Playing Louisville would be a really great option.  They're a good program with tradition, major college football brand, East Coast TV markets, recruiting exposure, possible future Big 12 member, and on and on.

If Oregon loses, we are a lock. Better in the Human polls, and by the end of the year we will be better in the Computers. Not worried.

That being said. A Fiesta Match up with an undefeated ND team would be an okay consolation prize.

What if that happens, Oregon wins, we blow out ND, and split the polls for #1?

Why the eff is it concerning?  I would rather play KU in any bowl, including the MNC, than a good team.  An MNC or BCS bowl win is the goal, who gives a eff who it's against.  I don't cheer for a good game, I cheer for a rough ridin' win, and a blow out win.

So yeah, bring on Boise, or whoever.  Let's push their crap in, and polish our trophy.

I like watching the cats play football against good teams. Winning bowl games against shitty teams is okay I guess, but as a fan I will remember and enjoy this season more thoroughly playing an undefeated ND or Alabama.

Exposure is great. Getting better recruits is great. But you want those things to accomplish what we have this season. Enjoy this one before you start looking to the next.

WGAF about winning bowl games?

How bout anyone with HFBIQ. If we beat the pigaggies last year, we would've started this season top 5, and any discussion about us getting passed would be predicated on us losing first. People dont trust a team that couldnt get passed the 3rd best team in the SECwest to beat bama.

You can claim that was a different year blaa blaa blaa, but why do you think everybody was all over WVUs nuts. They scored 70 in a bowl game.

Bowl games matter.

Edit: cause sometimes I type like case mccoy looks

Yet here we are at #2, ahead of undefeated Notre Dame, Oregon, and Ohio State. Oregon won their bowl game, by the way.
