Post by: WildCatzPhreak on March 19, 2010, 05:27:17 PM

W/o detail, it is tought.

That said, self respect shouldn't keep a person from telling another adult: "Sorry, My Bad.  Won't happen again".  Losing self respect would be doing this while either crying or from your knees.

Short version: He asked me a question and I gave him an answer he didn't like.

Good grief, do you even want help with this?  What was the Q and what was the A?

Someone outside our group criticized a decision he made.  He came to get my opinion, and was kinda upset when I didn't back him up, but rather agreed with the person who criticized him.

Either your boss is an idiot and can't appreciate that it is a good thing to have employees share their differing opinions, or he isn't an idiot and will respect you for being able to express such an opinion once he cools down.

Hope he isn't an idiot. If so, you are screwed. If it doesn't sting you this time, it will eventually. Idiot bosses are the worst.

Not too worried about the long term because the turnover for his position is pretty high.  The only thing I really care about is getting my $$$, which is coming up in the near future.

If you want the money, here's what you do.....You go back to your boss on Monday, and you explain to your boss that you have felt bad about how your conversation went.  While you disagreed, it didn't mean anything more than you thought your job was to be an honest "sounding board" for such conversations.....

...BUT, here is the MOST important part....

You MUST tell your boss that you "hope this doesn't impact your (my) employee evaluation."  This will FORCE your boss to acknowledge that this is a possibility, AND will put your boss in a situation where they won't give a bad review unless they have a TON of bad crap on you.  Your boss will be on edge....it would be far easier for your boss to give you the appropriate review than it would to "punish" you....unless your boss is a psycho, then you are mumped.

Thanks Pete.  I'll try that.  If it works, I'll use some of my new bonus/raise money  :gocho:  to buy you a beer or something.

Should convince him you are the reason the last couple of people in his position didn't last. Catch my drift.  :gocho:

^This. Right now, you need to start creating a paper trail. Get sworn statements from everyone in the room during the time of the disagreement, and have them verify the transcript. Next, you need to talk with your HR person and have them help you craft a negative response letter to your boss, which will force him to take action within 10 days or acknowledge that there is no way for him to discriminate against you just because you made a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) comment. Next, make sure you save all email communications to/from him, and get a recording device on your phone. Probably best to have someone present in the room anytime he calls, and put it on speaker. Then get that person to sign a statement verifying what they just heard, and get that paper notarized. You might want to call the police and give them some background info, just as a heads up.

As mentioned in a different thread:  Punch him in the face to let him know you're not rough ridin' around.  Seems to solve most every situation, IMHO.

I thought it was about how many pickles go on the burgers.
