Redemption must begin with tragedy, with loss, with suffering.  A loser bested at every turn, a dreamer violently awoken, a young prince humbled, a brother taken too soon.  It is only by knowing, not with logic, but pathos.  The hero's yearning, ambition, desire thwarted in the most humiliating fashion.  It is at this moment that the hero must call upon their superiority.  In defeat, the hero crawls must crawl, subservient to evil, knowing only failure.

Out of this pit of despair, our hero must complete a difficult journey to claim glory.  A struggle worthy of the prize.
