Title: West Virginia Reminds me alot of K-State...
Post by: ben ji on October 19, 2012, 10:27:45 AM
in the early 90's when we were just trying to make a name for ourselves. No one respected us then just like no one respects West Virginia now due to them playing in the Big East these past 10 years.

Remember in the early 90's when our fans used to do crazy things like tear down goalposts in other teams stadiums? West Viginia's program is there right now, just trying to get someone to notice their newly found success.

While we never went as far as our new Hilljack friends(burning couches, beating pregnant women etc) its sort of the same thing right?

If they keep winning we may just have no choice but to kick Michigan off the pedestal we are on and give West Virginia a hand up(but not before pulling it back and saying PSYCHE!).

They're a bit overly sensitive about things which does remind me of us back in the 90s.  You know, the whole "we're not dumb hicks" or "our state ain't flat" stuff.  Then add on the "yeah we played nobody but we're good!" angle and it does seem like familiar ground.  Good observo.

We both have really efficient offenses and Heisman candidates at quarterback, but unlike West Virginia, our state isn't filled with inbred hillbilly trash. Two similarities and only one difference! :D

This is now a thread where we talk about how similar we are with our Big XII brothers in West Virginia, despite minor differences.

I'm not sure about the newly found success thing. We have over 700 all-time wins, placing us 20th amongst the winningest programs in the nation, with more wins than schools such as Arkansas, Florida, and Texas A&M.

Last thing you want to do is group your school with a couple of loser programs like Arkansas and Texas A&M.

Who was they best team you played in a typical season while you accumulated all those wins, though?

Yep. They crushed us almost every year. Not as bad as you guys vs. Nebraska/Oklahoma, but close.

That was the best team we played most years. That's what you asked.

From what I'm looking at there says you haven't played them since 1992 and haven't beat them since 1988.  See, this is the kind of things that go through our mind when we hear the repeated "But 3 BCS wins!!!`"!" talking point.

We've both had the same fat drunk as our basketball coach. We are both land grant universities. But unlike the hoop aggies, we were able to create an economy out of things other than merely being ohio's bitch.

See! Two similarities and only one difference!!

WVU is a much improved program from the Penn St. "rivalry" days.

The Pat White/Rich Rod teams (three straight top 10 finishes) most likely would have won at least one conference title in any conference outside of the SEC. Last years Orange Bowl team would have been 7-5 in the Big 12. We were in the Orange Bowl only because our conference was terrible and our team played the best game they could possibly play against a weak BCS opponent in that Orange Bowl. It's an accomplishment, but it's fair for others to discount it's value as a bragging point. The 2005 and 2007 teams were legit top 7 or 8 teams in the country and the new Big East as a whole was in the middle of a decent run. In 2006 the Big East had 3/8 teams in the final top 10.

they're like a segment of our team and fanbase, perhaps.  if you substitute kansas for virginia and redasses for mountaineers, then yeah.  pretty similar - all the people, money and culture lies on the eastern side of their state and they are tremendously butthurt about it.

Points taken and fair enough.

We've been to the 2004 Fiesta Bowl as a Big 12 Champ and lost 35-28 to a defending champ Ohio State.   That's it.  We were in the 1998 Fiesta Bowl but as the KU fans will tell you it was an "Alliance Bowl" back then.  We don't get many opportunities to go to the BCS because 1) The Big 12 is rough ridin' hard to win and 2) KSU doesn't get at-large invites, period.

We're in a different Big 12 now.  No title game.  No Round robin, we all play each other.  It's going to be even harder.

Welcome to the conference!

Comparing yourself with Arkansas? No wonder your school has such a low image.
