I can't remember a team who has looked better through this point in the season. That may even include 98. We've taken on a top ten team at their house and won. We've beaten high-powered offenses. We've beaten power running, ginder types. We've made decent teams look bad. Even when we've been (relatively) mistake proned like today we've stayed in dominant position throughout the game.
The win over floodaggie isn't what I'm blathering about. This team just has "it." I'm not even sure what "it" is, but whatever needs to be done these guys get it done. The offense is great, no one can run on us. It is really something to behold.
Drink it in fellas. Enjoy it while it lasts.
-
Yep. The game of the year in the Big 12 has already been played. We won it.
-
Glad someone said this. Also, we're winning at WVU. :ksu:
-
Team is very tough and had great leadership that also is talented.
-
If we win next week I'll feel pretty confident with an undefeated regular season prediction. TTU is at home and OSU, UT, TCU and Baylor are all mediocre.
-
Cats, man. Cats.

It's still a brutal stretch.

we will ranked #4 next week, if my math is correct. behind alabama, oregon and south carolina. the best in kstate history? yes, if iirc.

Pretty sure Notre Dame will jump us

yes

yes, in the coaches poll. And we were #2 in 2000 before losing to OU.

Kind of hoping that if we win out that we play ND. Fitting that if the worst program in history wins the title it is against notre dame.
-
Thought we hit #1 in 98
oh yeah, i know. i just meant that there weren't any teams as good as 'bama and oregon back then. s. carolina is the wildcard. they actually remind me a lot of the old kstate teams, and it's a tossup in my mind whether they are better or not.

I was under the impression we were 6, they were 7, or are you going off of they are 6, we are 7, thus making my comment look dumb?

This team is more discipline than '98's team. Huh, never thought I'd ever say that in my life.

it doesn't matter, domino. the voters will have seen how nd struggled with stanford and they will not have been impressed. they will be behind kstate and florida for sure.

Honestly, I think they jump us this week, then we jump them after next week. This won't matter in the long run because they are losing to OU

We would have been in much better position for the final polls had Texas won. I don't really care if Notre Dame jumps us for a week or two.

I'm officially on team #burnitdown on the basketball board. I've never seen sys jump ship like this before. Watching him throw in the towel and come to the football board is depressing for bball. :embarrassed:

FWIW, ISU's offense sucks ass.

I admit to praying #fattytakethewheel during the 4th quarter, hash tag and all.

LSU was ranked #3 at the time. Also, ND's second best win looks pretty bad after MSU lost to Iowa today. Didnt Floodaggie beat those poor bastards?
-
I admit to praying #fattytakethewheel before and after the game
-
Our defense is kind of fraud-y, imo. Offense is good, but I am concerned that the defense's weaknesses will become exploited over the next 4 games and put too much pressure on our offense.
We did not play all that well on the road today and still won, which is impressive.
-
i thought we looked like garbage today
-
I felt more confident in '98 following the Nebraska win I think. Our Defense just seemed so dominant and we would just smoke the weaker teams. B12 seems so stacked this year other than KU also. Could this year make up for the biggest KITN ever that was 1998? I hope so.
-
Ya, as a team we played pretty awful football. I mean 9 penalties? who are we, cocaine aggy?
-
I agree that our defense just isn't at the level that it was in 98 and 03. I mean our pass defense is definitely lacking. The run defense has been solid, but I feel like teams have really been able to pick on our secondary when they have wanted to.
Today I saw a young quarterback that made our secondary look just "ok". Barnett often looked like he already decided who he was going to throw to before the snap. He became easy to read and our average secondary shut him down. With the exception of Ty Zimmerman I don't feel like our secondary is that good. Sure, Nigel Malone will make a big pick here and there and is no doubt our best CornerBack, but have you seen the other corners. Holy crap it is God awful. Chapman consistently gets burnt on the other side and allows big plays. I saw we had someone else in Chapman's spot today, but didn't catch who it was. I'm not sure how he looked either because I was not at the game. I'm scared for this team. I could see some exploits in the future.
-
If we win next week I'll feel pretty confident with an undefeated regular season prediction. TTU is at home and OSU, UT, TCU and Baylor are all mediocre.
Guys, this conference is pretty much the Cats, OU, and FloodAggie. Everyone else is just garbage. Might as well give us the Pepper now.

If UT was elite and would have won all of their games but they're going to lose at least 2-3 more.

After watching Texas Tech today, I believe they are the toughest game left on our schedule. I feel like they are better than FloodAggie also.

We owned OU. OU T-bagged Tech last week in Lubbock. We get them at home. I can't envision a scenario in which SandAggie keeps it within 60 pts.
Don't sweat this one, man.
-
I love this team hard but they wouldn't sniff 98's jock. it's just not even close. it's really not fair to compare them. go back and look at the roster position by position. qb is probably a wash because bishop's arm was just stupid good but klein makes up for it by not being as dumb and risky. other than that, 98 was better across the board at every position...cept maybe punter. 98's defense was scary good.
at any rate, yeah, we look really strong and I'm gonna enjoy the eff outta this ride. :billdance:
-
I don't care how we look if we keep winning.
-
You guys, '98 was a different league and a different time. Power run games back then. Now it's spread offenses. That '98 team would get pushed back by the passing offenses now. Plus, that '98 team was sloppier than you remember. The big plays helped smooth it over.
-
we looked like crap and 3rd and long is just scary as crap with this team on both offense and defense.
-
'98 was a legit squad but I do think our offense is more consistant this year. Also (and I hate to admit this) Coop would have looked like 2Y against a spread offense.
-
we looked like crap and 3rd and long is just scary as crap with this team on both offense and defense.
Dude, we were 8/16 and they were 4/12 on third downs. Not sure what you expected but those arent bad numbers on either side of the ball.
-

We brought it on ourselves on defense today. We saw something on film that made us think that when using our typical 4 DEs on obvious passing downs, that we should bring 2 LBs up the middle. ISU out schemed that by consistently picking it up. Hopefully we throw that plan away because we can't execute it and come up with something better next week.
-
this offense is a billion times better than the 1st time around offense.

The amount of talent on that 98 defense will never be equaled again, I just can't believe it when I comb back through that roster. I'm not certain Arthur would have ever seen the field.

that was so cute, really reminded me of 98 nebraska, except we won that game.

And for a contrast in home atmospheres, see what KU has for a home stand versus the returning conference champ. I know the weather isn't good and there's been a rain delay, but that's just a horrid atmosphere.
I just wish we could reward the fans with a win in some of these games.
What kind of loser fan base resorts to that comparison?
-

"win some of these games"...weren't they known for knocking off a top-10 team at home each of the last 2 years, plus they beat Iowa in 3 OT at home last year.

I did however hear a funny old man joke. Snyder is so old he wears a life alert! I loved it!

Yoga,
A quick glance at the PbP chart shows the Cats were 5-11 in 3rd and long. (I'm using 3rd and long as 5 or > yards to go.)
So even in third and long the Cats were really good.
-

Third and long looks scary for any team imo. This team is good because they trust the coaches and the guy standing next them whole heartedly. I feel better when CK is throwing TDs instead of running for them. When Klein has to run it in himself I feel like that was a last resort play call.

Man, fall weddings. Only got to watch a portion of the first half, then followed ESPN gamecast with j-dub. Will enjoy watching when its up on youtube.

Who wins more games this year ... #kstate (6-0) or MU-KU-Chefs combined (5-13)?

That '98 team was ridiculously loaded with talent. This years team is like the Will Spradling of our best teams and the '98 team is Pullen. They are tough, have heart, play smart etc...but ultimately they just don't have the talent to compare to the '98 team.
-
Ill take this team in a best of 7 series.
Also take this team with this schedule.

Yeah they're better than a Sprads comparo but I couldn't think of another player more apt for the analogy at the time. Maybe McGruder? :dunno: What I'm really getting at is this team is tough, smart, plays mistake free (usually) and executes pretty much as best as possible. The '98 team was just ridiculously talented and could play sloppy and still beat down teams. If the two teams played it would be a great game, but the '98 team was far and away more talented.
-
Oh man, there are some gems in this thread http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/football/158518-voices-stands-ksu-ed.html
In the front row of the student section one guy was talking about punching Klein after his touchdown in front of us, saying stuff like "I'd punch Klein and I'd shank Klein" and eventually he ran out of steam and said "I'd... F*** COLLIN KLEIN!" and one of the cops up there turned around to him and said stone-faced "You wanna f*** Collin Klein?!?"

Definitely a dobercat feeling to this team.

Two things I heard; both from KSU players as they ran to the locker room past the band.
"Time to get the F*** out of Iowa!"
*specifically towards the band* "Wildcat nation, b****."
Classy, cats.

I love when fans get butthurt about players for the other team talking crap after they win. Classic "I can dish it out but I can't take it" attitude. I'm sure Flood Aggie fans didn't say anything mean or insulting towards any of our players during the entire game

Problem with that analogy is that the Beasley/Walker team was basically a 2 man team, we were good at almost every position in '98.

The 98 team was kind of like a great football team, and the 12 team is kind of like a great football team, too.
-
That '98 team was ridiculously loaded with talent. This years team is like the Will Spradling of our best teams and the '98 team is Pullen. They are tough, have heart, play smart etc...but ultimately they just don't have the talent to compare to the '98 team.
Can you name any teams more talented than the '98 Cats team?
I'll give you one: 2012 OU.

Guys we have a good team, great leaders on both the defense and offense and a great coach add all of that up and you have a recipe for success.
Yum! slow schemed to perfection!

It's too bad that they don't have the leadership, poise, and moxie of the 2012 KSU team.
If they did, they may have had the inside track in winning the Big 12.

I'm just happy we have a team that could honestly, hypothetically compete with our best team of all time. For awhile I thought it would never happen.
