Title: Allowing Mizzou back in as a partial member of the Big 12?
Post by: Dugout DickStone on October 07, 2012, 11:29:13 AM
Would we consider letting them back into the Big 12 but as a partial member for 3-5 years?  I know lots of MU fans who are asking just this question today.  I say yes, but that's because they are a guaranteed win and I know some MU fans who are pretty miserable right now.

Did they give their reasoning, Limestone? Would be a pretty embarrassing move. Come back with your tail between your legs to the conference you stabbed in the back only to get destroyed week in and week out worse than they are in the SEC. Big 12 is a tougher conference than the SEC this year, no one disputes that. So I guess their reasoning would be cheaper travel expenses to said beatings?

Their football should just go independent. They'd give army a run for their money

Cheaper travel, get the KC fan base back (apparently attendance is lagging as all of these SEC fans aren't willing to go to a burg like Columbia), recruit Texas again, with the grant of rights in place it's clear the Big 12 is going to stick around.

The SEC stigma of "win at all costs even with drunks at coach and criminals as players" is obviously becoming a huge reality there in Columbia, MO

When you think about it, it makes sense. SEC was ranked higher last year, they get Missouri, and all of a sudden the conference sucks. We make the jump to toughest conference after losing Missouri. Anybody else see what I'm getting at?

It might make sense, more sense than Mizzou leaving for the SEC in the first place... but I think Big 12 schools are too proud to let it happen. Who would let a traitor back into the conference?? I don't think it would happen.  :nono:

We have a lot of shared history.  Sure they are drunken under achievers but we cannot turn them out when they are hurting this badly.

They are a terrible fanbase and a terrible team.  The Big 12 only accepts top 25 applicants.  If they get their house in order I would consider it.  Right now, the Big 12 is like an elite, expensive gala with KU serving the drinks and you want to invite a homeless sex offender to the event.  I don't see it.

I'm not sure they would "move the needle".

Pretty sure Nubbs are making overtures, too.
I say no on both counts. It's a matter of trust.

I know for a fact that NUBB doesn't move the needle.  They are worthless to us.

They'll need to fill out an application while dressed up in their nicest khakis.  And take the typing test.  And then a UA.  Fingerprints and background check.  Perhaps even a nice letter of interest would help.

All so we can ball it up in our hands and throw it in their faces.

Wow, that is pretty harsh.  I guess I feel a bit sorry for them.  Remember how goddam excited they got to play ku in football?  We never get that excited to play them.

I remember that both fan bases routinely combined to fill up half of Arrowhead.

Nothing is stopping them from scheduling an early season Meth Lab Classic at Arrowhead.

Yeah, tough to decide what to do with conflicting messages like this

Best way to decide is to go with what you want.

A couple of our janitors are MU fans.  I'll run it by them tomorrow when I get into the office.

What if we made them keep football in the SEC, but brought the Olympic sports and Basketball back?  That's the only value that they bring.  I feel sorry for my KU friends who have lost that basketball rivalry...it's all they have.

I would have a pretty strict covenant that they couldn't refer to winning the Big 12 basketball tournament as being Big 12 champions.

I was on board after discussing this with the MU guy who washes my car. He's a lot like Biff from back to the future always trying to get by without washing the rims on my ride. But he's a good enough little sap so I embellish him. He thought it would be magnanimous of the XII to allow a return. He even suggested a scarlet "M" be tatted on their foreheads as a sign of penance.

Then I read this:

I think people were just excited to not only see new venues, but to learn about the SEC's traditions and rivalries," Kelly said. "How many times in one life should someone be subject to go to Manhattan (Kansas) or Ames (Iowa)? Good grief! I just look at the November schedule. Missouri plays back-to-back weekends at Florida and Tennessee … should be pretty good places for fans to travel."

I understand the trepidation of being subject to the rising tide of the flood aggie, but to say something so mean and hurtful about MHK, I..I ... just cannot approve them coming back.

Sorry, LSOC. But I'll conform if you all decide that it's best.

Wil
