What's your favorite Sunflower Showdown you've been to?
I gotta go with 1995. KU was ranked #6 and we were coming off a bad loss at NU. We rolled them 41-7.
-
16-12 was pretty great. Still not good, but we won a shitty game. Partying afterwards was so much fun.
-
The one where their QB's finger was popped like a zit
-
Top 5:
1. 95 - Two Top 10 teams; destroyed them.
2. 94 - Thursday Night ESPN.
3. 91 - Crazy comeback.
4. 98 - Destruction in the rain.
5. 02 - Just fun.

This one? Yeah good times.

94 and 95 were pretty damned enjoyable.
-
2010 was so great. I remember going into the game being kind of confident we would win, but not sure. Everyone thought it would be a close game since it was in Lawrence and all. Then 59-7 happened.
-
I Loved 2011. It was great.

2009 was kinda neat. Everyone stayed in their seats after the game was over.
-
My favorite is probably ’04. Second to that was probably ’08. Although not technically part of the showdown, I enjoyed MU pasting us 49-32 in Manhattan in ’07 and the student section began to chant “beat ku” as the MU players ran off the field. Those, my goEMAW friends, were good times.

Went to this game with people from my dorm floor. They left at halftime all sad and whatnot. I stayed until the very end :emawkid: my fist off. Enjoyed it immensely.

Was an annoying kid at the table next to us (watched from local bar). When CK broke off that late run I just turned and screamed "IN YOUR FACE!" :drink:

Fellow K-Stater got us tickets to that one. When ku was going for a close third down when 2nd and 3rd stringers were playing defense, Snyder trotted out the first string for a stop. It was awesome. Biggest margin of victory in the series history.
To pay this friend back, although a bit late, I got us tickets to go to the 2010 game. I think that was 2nd largest margin of victory in series history.

very neat. special moment
-
yeah snyder sending out the first team d to make a stop was lol worthy
-
One was on my 21st birthday and it was great. I got way pak'd before I pak'd was a thing.

I have heard a myth that the ones sub themselves in to make sure to protect the shut-out. Not sure what to believe but both stories are cool.

I remember one of the players saying after the game that Snyder was mad at them for doing it but they didn't want to lose the shutout just because we had our 3rd string in. :lynchmob:
-
Whatever year it was we went to Lawrence and Beasley was QB. I personally enjoyed sitting on the home side and listening to the old KU fans grumble and come up with things to poke fun at us about.
-
not my favorite for obvious reasons, but i will say that '08 was as good as a loss like that can feel because it assured me that prince was gone.
-
None. We beat the crap out of them every year, always so boring.

2009, It's good to be back.
-
'98 and '02 for games i've been to.
'94 was my favorite as a kid though because i thought it was totally awesome that we tore down ku's goalposts.
-
02 and last year were a tie for me, 02 for obvious reasons and last year because i have never seen an opposing teams stadium infiltrated like that, the lawrence faithful absolutely despised that day
-
09 felt pretty good.
-
2005 because Allan Everage was the QB
-
10 for the pure reason they thought they might win then we KILL THEM...then when they would say wait till basketball me and my bros     in their face because we were ranked higher in the preseason polls

09 felt pretty good.
Turning Point of our Football Program....imo
-
Can we talk about amazing it is that we tore down the goalposts in someone else's stadium? Has that ever happened anywhere else?
-
1982.
It's a night game (they brought lights in for this one) at KSU Stadium (way before it was BSFS or even Wagner Field).
TBS televises the game.
'Cats do pre-game in regular jerseys and come out in gray jerseys.
A then-record crowd of 43,167 attended the game (including me !).
Final Score: KSU 36, KU 7.
-
Can we talk about amazing it is that we tore down the goalposts in someone else's stadium? Has that ever happened anywhere else?
I think I remember Iowa fans tearing down goalposts in the metrodome when Minnesota played there. But I can 100% guarantee it was stupid when compared with the EMAW goalpost raid.
'09 was really fun, '10 was an absolute blast, but my personal fav was '03 when they danced on the powercat and had Bill Whitimore and thought they were going to give us a game.
-

i wish we did this at every lawrence game. who gives a crap about class when you can have yellow goalposts.
-
i have to say i even had a good time at the game in '04. sat in the student section with my 10 dollar ticket. watched a heartbreaking loss. my girlfriend left in the 3rd quarter and got piss drunk and lost. found her laying on the hood of my car at her apartment (1 block from memorial) and had lost her purse with phone and house keys. found her keys at some family's lawn a long ways in the opposite direction from the stadium. put her to bed, called up some ku bros and got super paked with jovial ku fans at the red lyon.
-
09. Sent KU on a 7 game skid and started the fat man packing? Crowd was loud and stuck around to celebrate afterwards. :emawkid:
-
09 and 10 are close for me. For 09, I watched the game at BWW at the bar with two fat obnoxious KU fans sitting next to me. They would cheer and be loud for every KU play. They would say "Thank God for Todd" many times during the first quarter up until his fumble, at which point I looked at both of them and said "Thank God for Todd". Neither of them said anything the rest of the first half, and left at halftime never to be seen again. Felt good man.
-
95 I think is most memorable for me. Was a freshman and in the student section. It was an early game like 11 or noon. Tailgated from like 7am or whenever they open the parking lot and took turns standing in line to rush for the front row in the GA student section. Being a good team and being ranked was still a pretty new thing at the time although KU was ranked higher. Also was my first experience tearing down a goal post and carrying it down to rustys in a mob of emaw. Ended the night calling an ambulance for one of my friends for alcohol poisoning. Good times.

That was a great day. We still had the old wooden benches behind the student section back then. :sdeek:
-
it's hard to beat the "poopy towel" chants at mangino in 09. Will never forget... :emawkid:
-
2009 was kinda neat. Everyone stayed in their seats after the game was over.
Ditto. 2009 was Mangino's last year, and KU was much superior in terms of talent, and Snyder just clowned Mangino with his SCHEME.
-
when was the last time we had harley day line up with ku?
i remember seeing one harley with a jayhawk in a noose swinging it around and hearing a gentleman behind us yell "YOU'RE NEXT IN THE NOOSE, MANGINO." i really hope it was 2009. that would have been very symbolic.
-
In no particular order
'93
'97
'98
'09
I was all :ohno: before the '09 game. DT just came out and completely clowned them. That day felt so good.

Went to that game, and ended up getting pak'd and talking to a ku chick about poetry, which is pretty amazing since I didn't know anything about poetry. Was also pissing between two parked cars after the game when my "friends" in one of the cars pulled away suddenly so the line of cars passing on his side could see me.
-
They had poetry back in 1982?

not my favorite for obvious reasons, but i will say that '08 was as good as a loss like that can feel because it assured me that prince was gone.
I like to think that the FIRE PRINCE paper bag I wore in the second half forced the administration's hand. (see profile avatar)

that or the whole unfolding of the corrupt admin with prince tripped up in it.

I remember specifically staying the entire game because I wanted to really feel the pain. And I really did.
I went to Hale the following monday and wrote Wefald an email. Felt very powertardy, but oh so pure.

Oh man, I wrote an email to Wefald, too. I had a different reaction at the game though, since I left midway through the 3rd quarter & did a keg stand immediately after getting back to my KU bro's apartment.

I wore my recently purchased "Ron Prince Era" shirt with the spilt koolaid guy on the back. Not sure which one of you created it but I feel like it really got the point across.
That game hurt, real bad...but it was worth it...I wouldnt be enjoying the past 2 seasons so much if it had not happened.

Anthony Webb and Aqib Talib walked to the locker room together after Kansas University's 39-20 victory Saturday, slithering through thousands of Jayhawk football fans who stormed the field to celebrate a rout of Kansas State.
 what do they call it every other year when we win?

That was a really bad one, but there were very few expectations in 1992.
First year of Prince and most were Prince believers going into the game. Cats were coming off the big win over Texas and on a 3 game winning streak. KU was a mediocre 5-5 going into the game.
This was a sign of what the Prince era would be about, and it was a bad one.

It was pretty brutal, and frankly, we were lucky to be within 19.

If Mastrud could of managed to score on that long pass (the first snap of the game IIRC) who knows what might of happened in that game and the future of both programs

We were 3-0, and had beaten them the previous year and had narrowly missed the second bowl game in school history the previous year.
And then we went to Lawrence and got absolutely crushed. It was horrifying.
In 06 there were already plenty of bad performances behind us. Yeah, the Texas win was great, but the KU game didn't shed any new light on the fact that we were an up and down team that year.

That was one of the most beautiful days ever. Weather was beautiful, and it was enjoyable to watch Sparkles being tossed on our then-crappy artificial playing surface.
-
Although, I was very young and did not see the game, I understood the significance of '87.
Both teams were fighting to not be the worst team in football, and they tied.

Thomas had about 40 carries that day
KU had all kinds of athletes and could not get out of their own way
Bill was prepping for that game since December 2008
-
I appreciate the enthusiasm of the youngsters about recent victories, but nothing compared to 1995's 41-7 annihilation of the Mark Williams led Jayhawks. That was simply beautiful and was a time when giant slices of Pizza Hut were available for like 2 bucks at (later to be known as) the Bill.
-
I was at the '06 and '08 Sunflowers. Just awful. I vividly remember some hayseed with a lawn chair and his TV outside yelling, "Get the hell out of town, Aggies!!" after the '06 game as I was walking back to the car. Man KU owned us hard for those 3 years :embarrassed:
The '08 game I was behind the KU bench. I lost my voice yelling at sparkles and Mangino, as we got routed in the first half.

It was the first snap, and Mastrud was WIDE open. But he was so slow, the ku secondary guys were on him like stink on shiite and dropped him. Anyone that had any speed would have scored--he was behind the entire defense.

Correct answer is 2012, guys!
