Title: learn to love watching our OL: Whitehair is becoming dominant...
Post by: The Manhatter on September 23, 2012, 01:33:13 PM
hysterical this kid is just a freshman.  Lucas just erases his side.

Guys, this is a really good OU defense.  It was focused, playing at home, and had two weeks to prepare.  So we get 5 yards per carry and the QB is never touched on 20 passing attempts and VERY rarely did we go double tight....not even sure we did.

This offensive line is really, really good.

Watch Whitehair...athletic, very strong, stout, stud!!  There are times he takes the upperclassmen DTs in Walker and McFarland and just walks them backward for a nice place to sit and watch the play.  He is extremely mobile while moving laterally...dude is really, really good.

it felt so good watching our o-line, hatter. So, so, good. Did we even have a negative play? I don't remember one. UNREAL.

Gonna go a little Tuck here but Wilson is also a blocking stud. Hubert, not too shabby.

The O-line had the most well rounded game last night. Only one holding penalty I can remember. We don't win that game without this o-line.

Also, we lost 1 or 2 on each of the knees we took at the end.

Sorry kougs...the o-line is terrible and will get schooled by more athletic teams. Wilson is white and slow, and Hubert is too small to be good.  Etc etc...

Is Charlie Dickey our most valuable assistant coach?  I would have to say yes, or at worst he's tied for most valuable.

I love watching Harper destroy opposing DBs on long runs by Hubie (yeah, I'm calling him that now) and Klein.

Our whole team is a bunch of blocking badasses.

I would put OU immediately behind Texas.  Kansas State right behind OU.  TCU slightly behind us.    :dunno:

i like it when someone is really good at something, even if no one cares about what it is they're good at.  like, punting is really boring, but if kstate has the best punter in the world, then i want them to punt every possession.

How about that play where CK literally pump faked like 3 times but still had plenty of time to check down to (Lockett or Thompson I'm not sure). That was where the dominance of our OL was most evident I think.

Guys, watch Whitehair (55/LG) completely demolish his man on CK's TD carry:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KcYjXDGJ0k&feature=player_detailpage#t=2050s

He just keeps pushing him back and back and then pancakes his ass.

Two things that made me  :emawkid: in relation to our line:

1. Sure there was some typical scheming going on, but it seemed like the majority of the time, we were simply handing the ball off to Hubert and letting him gash the defense all normal-style (without that "extra blocker" stuff we always hear about in relation to Klein and/or the Wildcat, and also without the misdirection of the zone read).

2. Kept running that five-wide stuff with no extra blockers (just let Klein sit in the pocket and crush the Sooners' dreams with his passing -- no worries about their pass rush).

Kid in a candy store type stuff there. We did what we wanted.

Kansas State junior OT Cody Whitehair "was consistently in control of his blocks in the run game and didn’t get beat cleanly once all game" on Saturday against Texas, noted Pro Football Focus.

"The junior was clean all day in pass protections outside of a holding penalty on Cedric Reed," Pro Football Focus' team of analysts wrote. Whitehair was named a Second Team All-Big 12 selection last season. "He looks the part with good quickness off the snap and shuffles well, anchoring when he keeps his knees bent," CBS Sports' Dane Brugler wrote over the summer. "Whitehair's best trait is his ability to pick up extra pressures and keep his head on a swivel with vision and instincts." The 6-foot-3, 309-pounder is a left tackle for the Wildcats, but projects as an NFL guard.

Traditionally, only stud LTs project high enough to really justify leaving early.

Correct.  He's not a threat to leave if he projects as a guard.

Sports on Earth's Matt Brown calls Kansas State senior OT Cody Whitehair "a technically sound and instinctive tackle who rarely finds himself out of position."

Would you expect anything different from a LHC Bill Snyder-coached offensive lineman? The 6-foot-4, 309-pound Whitehair is a four-year starter. He held down left guard as a sophomore and left tackle as a junior, earning inclusion on the second-team All-Big 12 team in each of those seasons. He's going to play left tackle again, but he'll almost assuredly kick inside in the pros.
