Title: Now this is journalism

Quote
Two years ago I watched these four Kansas State fans, apparently upset with the beer prices in the swanky lobby bar at the downtown Omaha Hilton, wheel their giant cooler inside, plop it down on the marble floor next to where a Marvin Hamlisch wannabe was tinkling the ivories and reach inside for a handful of cold ones. I was torn between astonishment and admiration, because I hate paying $8 for a bottle of beer, too.

Security was summoned. Those K-State fans were told if they wanted to drink beer out of a cooler in a hotel lobby, they'd have to take it across the Missouri River to the Motel 6 in Council Bluffs, Iowa...

I'm stunned that Las Vegas writers would put "hotel" and "Motel 6" in the same sentence, even if it was a quote.

Kudos to Mr. Kantowski.  It needed to be said, and hopefully we all can look at this as a long overdue wake up call.

KSUers may be good at a lot of things, but societal norms and commonly acccepted social mores simply aren't among them.  This is part of the problem most of us have from not being raised around a lot of "people".  We just don't know how to act when we get in public.

Take our behavior as a fanbase (not naming any names) at the Power and Light District this past weekend as an example.  Just the embarrasing tip fo the iceberg, IMO.

Chings and I saw a Steve Dave impersonator at the bar of the hut a couple weeks ago.  Ponca shells, tan, hitting on the hottest 30something at the bar and when he pulls back from whispering something in her ear, she gives the universal "hey, wipe your nose because you've got some coke on it.  Don't worry, not offended at all, I want some.  Let's head to my place."

Just another great moment in bbs impersonation history.

Not at all negative.  I don't know why they got thrown out.  It's not like it's some fancy hotel.  It's a freaking Hilton.

In Omaha.

Nebraska.

And there isn't a single hotel in Las Vegas that is too classy to wheel in a cooler and pop a cold one in the lobby.  They may think there is, but they are wrong.

Loved this part:

The Cougars will take care of Florida in the first round and then we’ll see if he can get his shot off against Kansas State, which plays defense as if its hair is on fire. A stellar defense against a hot-shooting team? Love it.

If Jimmer can get loose for 25 against the Wildcats then, yes, he should skip right to the NBA.

BYU seems to be a popular pick, but this Jimmer guy has never seen anything like Dom.  They have nothing on the inside.  We will destroy the Mormons.

I wonder if there is a posting minimum to achieve such a feat.  I could use a fake WRFF running around pak'rs with me living in Louisiana -- would up my visibility tremendously.

I haven't seen them play, at all, but I'm guessing they'll be on Haws and Emery.  Sutton was on both Collins and Dunn for most of the last 2 games, with Pullen obviously guarding the more difficult assignment (Henry vs. KU).  At one point, Martavious was guarding Anthony Jones.  Was hilarious, but it worked out fine.

I don't think Sutton's been all that great defensively of late, to be honest. I think if he's on Fredette, he'll have 3 fouls before the under-4 TO in the first half.

Would prefer Pullen.

Ha!  I did a 360 going about 80 on a service road behind that motel and smashed my beautiful new IROC into and under a parked semi in the parking lot!   Was showing off how well it handled when I saw the puddle of water that had drained off the semi, things went south in a hurry.  shazbot! you Blue Beacon.   Headed straight to have way too many  :drink:    Was amazed I walked away when some hours later a cop walks into the Sapp Bros truck stop where I'm trying to get some food do soak up the alcohol and he's holding up the Z28 emblem asking if anyone wants to claim it.

clemente probably has to guard emery, which sucks a bit, but there's nothing else to do with him except for when byu has in their small reserves.  pullen has been ok at times on bigger guys, but he's also been destroyed by bigger stronger guards in other games (ol miss was horrible for him).  haws is supposed to be a pretty physical, slasher type.  actually the other guy, tavernari is supposed to just be a slow, poor-handling, jumpshooter (though he's obviously strong on the boards).

the byu posters seem to think fredette has struggled sometimes with bigger defenders.  so, assuming they're correct, that's another wrinkle.

They'll start with Pullen on Fredette, but if he starts heating up they'll switch Sutton to him (see Baylor and KU games w/ Collins & Dunn).

Colon's PT will be pretty limited in this game I would guess.  Probably see more of a Kelly/Judge/Samuels rotation at the 4 and 5 and go deeper into the using the big guards.  McGruder & Irving get more PT as well as maybe Russell and Energy.

No, this isn't that hard.  Pullen did very poorly at the start of the game.  Sutton switched to him, and did very well.  Dunn shot 2-8 from 3 in the last 35 minutes of the game, and one of them was off of a lose ball.  If you get Dunn to shoot like that,  you're doing very well.  (Sutton also only got one foul).

So, Sutton guarded Dunn most of the game, Dunn had 26 points, and got all those points in the little time Pullen was on him?

No, this isn't that hard.  Pullen did very poorly at the start of the game.  Sutton switched to him, and did very well.  Dunn shot 2-9 from 3 in the last 35 minutes of the game, and one of them was off of a lose ball.  If you get Dunn to shoot like that,  you're doing very well.  (Sutton also only got one foul).

BYU seems to be a popular pick, but this Jimmer guy has never seen anything like Dom.  They have nothing on the inside.  We will destroy the Mormons.

if sutton is on fredette, who are pullen and clemente going to guard?

Probably fredette

Pullen will be on Fredette.

Just a little FYI:

The topic of who will guard Fredette has been a popular conversation. As of Friday afternoon, the plan is for top defender Dominique Sutton to start on him and Pullen to switch in throughout the game.

“It’s going to be one of the toughest challenges I’ve faced all year,” Sutton said. “But I’m going to be up for it.”
