Montgomery, the communications coordinator for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University,
I've tweeted The Animal about it. Others should do the same.

Wow, almost exactly like I pictured him.

Is this that bad person that at the end of every halftime says "and I'm Joe Montgomery, voice of the pride of wildcat land" like anyone in the stadium gives a crap who he is?
-
Stop being divisive, guys. He's a K-Stater (or at least works there). Have any of YOU actually seen and touched Obama's ORIGINAL birth certificate?

Good point. We really need to be positive here and support our state!

Not embarrassing at all. That's your opinion. Mine is - Good for Joe, proud of him.

like who really cares about this stuff
Anyone who cares about the image of our state / school
Does employing Joe Montgomery hurt the image of our program? Unquestionably
eh, I'm sure lots of universities have professors who say really dumbass crap. I'm not embarrassed to be an EMAW because of this guy, it's just kinda :dubious:

goEMAW needs to make a public records request of this :opcat: emails to see if he is politicing on the state's dime.
In the article it said it was from his personal e-mail account.
HOWEVER
He could have logged in to webmail and/or typed it on his work pc.

Why does everyone on here assume that some is :opcat: when they make a negative comment about someone who isn't white? Do honestly think Montgomery doesn't like him just because he's not white? I mean, it's definitely funny sometimes, but way overused.
I know, I know, I'll save you all time. I'm :opcat:
If Romney's parents were citizens of other countries, you wouldn't hear a peep, let alone a goddamn Objections Board Hearing.
yeah this
Romney was clearly born here :dunno:
Also, there are just stupid people. This is a course of action for stupid republicans that I don't think stupid liberals would take, who would have done this if Obama was white. Parent's country of birth doesn't matter either. I know that's not the point you are making, but there are at least weird surroundings with Obama's background where someone could attempt to a case*
*Note: I don't believe he isn't a citizen, and I don't care. It's a huge waste of time. Even if he wasn't a legal citizen, he is the pres, and they can make it so he was born here if they want.
-
turning into a butthurt political debate, shocking!
It started as a guy embarrassing his employer and its patrons by bringing up a political argument that never had any credence and was steeped in "butthurt" and racism. Call it "butthurt" if you like, but the guy took a public stand on a disgusting, embarrassing position, and should not represent Kansas State University any more.

You just answered your own question about why people think birthers are racist.
-
If he wants to be a nut, that's fine, but I'd prefer if we'd lock our nuts away in the dank hallways of Waters & Eisenhower hall, as opposed to having them speak in front of 50,000 people on a weekly basis.
No one knew this guy had a name until an hour ago. We're not having him showcase his bizarre political beliefs by saying "THE PRIIIIDE OF WILDCAT LAND!". He's introducing a marching band.
This is the type of thing that get's headlines like "Kansas State's PA Announcer (Still) Wants to See Obama's Birth Certificate."
It's embarrassing and that is reason enough to relieve him of his PA duties. Let Dave Lewis do it.
There are plenty of other people that are part of this university/community that I think are complete dumbasses, and most of them are in more public positions than the guy who announces that the marching band is about ready to start their halftime show.
how many of them get national media attention for being a dumbass?
yeah, I'd love to see some examples of people in more public positions than this guy that have made dumber statements.

Yeah. This isn't a case of "Univeristy of Whatever has a crackpot Political Science/History Professor..." or even "K-State employee...", this is "Kansas State University PA Announcer..."
PR-wise, this could be very embarrassing. Like I said, this Montgomery guy is free to do whatever he wants, but he's enough of a public figure (his name is announced at K-State every week) that when he goes out of his way to make an absolutely dumbass public political statement, he needs to be held accountable.

You just answered your own question about why people think birthers are racist.
Or the fact that it is clearly documented he was born here? Like I said, I don't care about Obama being born here or not. But there were strange facts, and he didn't release his Birth Certificate right away, providing some doubt.

It's clearly documented that Obama was born here. A bunch of crazy racists made up some crap, and enough media outlets ran with it that you think it is a question where he was born.

Yeah, it is clear now. It wasn't before, making some people think it was faked. I'm not a "birther". I think the guy is stupid for continuing his fight and trying to get him removed from the ballot. I just don't think this guy is "disgusting" and "embarrassing". He's just dumb. I don't think that's reason to fire this guy. Maybe pull back the reigns on what he gets to do, but firing him seems extreme.

Why would he need to "release his Birth Certificate right away?" He was a public figure for years before he was president, anyone who is not a racist wackjob had no doubt he was Hawaiian and why would they? How many birth certificates of presidential candidates have you seen? As I already stated both Obama and Romney had mothers who were born in America and fathers who were born elsewhere. No one asked for Romney's birth certificate.

The birther movement is racist.
It's trying to claim that because of his ethnicity, he does not deserve to be president.
The republican notion that some Americans are less American than others is one reason I left the republican party.

Because the media and opposing voters are a lot less scrupulous when you're not running for prez that no one brought up the lack of information on his past? :dunno: Montgomery might be a racist, but I'm just saying you didn't have to be racist to believe that side of the argument. I don't remember anyone questioning Herman Cain...

Effin fire this lunatic. Seriously, just as far as he went out of his way to get all political while serving as a public figure, Huff Post went further to constantly remind me that the flagship institution of the great State of Kansas employees jackasses such as this guy (see: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/13/obama-birther-kansas_n_1880957.html?utm_hp_ref=elections-2012).
This makes me so GD mad. This sh*t should be over with by now. The night Barack Obama was elected I watched my grandmother and grandfather weep with tears of joy because the reality they lived in where a black man could never hold an office such as President was erased. They grew up drinking out of different water fountains than this a$$hole. I'm blessed that I don't have to live in an American such as that. This scum is like the locusts that come around once every 7 years. And each year I cannot wait to crush them under my shoe.
These :opcat: just keeep coming back to argue a case that's already been discussed.
Game's over.
The last rebuttal has been given.
The last round of the 'bout has been had.
If Tracz lets this yuck on the underside of my shoe come near a mic on Saturday I will go back to school, run for SGA, and yank as much funding as I can from them so they have to relive their worst nightmare too.
My first voting experience was voting for the first black president of the united states. That means a lot to a generation that never knew this was possible.
I'm done. I cant even think clearly anymore. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :driving: :driving: :driving: :driving: :driving: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :chainsaw: :bwpopcorn:       :runaway: :runaway: :runaway: :runaway: :runaway: :runaway: :bang:

The appeal by Joe Montgomery was to be heard by The Kansas Board of Objections, a three-person body that resolves ballot-eligibility issues. The board is comprised of Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer, Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Atty. Gen. Derek Schmidt. All three are Republicans.
The state has been completely overtaken by right wing extremist assholes. Nice work. :flush:
-
The sad thing about this story is that I wouldn't be surprised at all if the committee agrees with the Prrrriiiide of Birther Land and decides to not put Obama's name on the ballot. I mean Kobach is a guaranteed yes vote, so all he would have to do is convince one of those other guys who I honestly don't know if they are crazy or not. The odds of both not being crazy nutjobs seems pretty slim, though.

you seem to be having a very hard time grasping this thing from a relevant perspective
-
It is inappropriate for someone who is a public representative of Kansas State University to take a public stand on such a divisive issues.
In my opinion, he must step down.
This was Joe Montgomery's choice to drag KSU into this. Now KSU should choose to refuse Mr. Montgomery to do so.
So a Government agency should punish someone for what they say or do outside there professional complicity as a government employee?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
If Fred Phelps was a state employee, and did the crap he did, I would be embarrassed as eff but would defend his right to not be removed solely based on his speech.
-
Well if you would defend him for that then you are a rough ridin' dumbass.

listen you idiots. the guy still works at kstate. he still has his job. he wasn't fired. he is just no longer going to get on the microphone and say his name and do other pregame stuff before football games. good lord you people.

You don't have 1st amendment protection in this situation.
Here's a hypothetical that should illustrate the dilemma.
You are spokes person for Cargill's pork division. You decide to start a public awareness campaign against pork, declaring it to be unhealthy and advocating that no one consume pork. Is it within Cargil's right to fire you?

nobody's stopping this crazy guy or any other crazy guy from saying whatever they want to say.

The problem is he is a public representative of the university and so his actions are perceived as a projection of kstate's values. A better analogy is Fitz getting dropped from gameday.

It's merely coincidence that I believe this Montgomery person to be a rough ridin' nut job who I wished lived in a far away land and not in America.

Cargill is a private corporation. K-State is a Public institution. 1st amendment protects people from the government from infringing on the rights of us citizens to speak our minds. Out-right firing him for what he is doing would be a violation of that right because K-State is a branch of the government.

You have no constitutional rights to a job. Unless the government is coming in and charging Montgomery with some crime for doing what he is doing, his rights are not being violated. As his employer, K-State is completely within its rights to fire his ass for making them look like a backwards, hayseed institution to the entire country. They did not fire him, but they should have. It would be worth being sued over to not have the K-State name associated with this.

surprise.
-
No one is stopping him from free speeching his stupid face off. But just because you have a right to say whatever you want doesn't mean your actions don't have consequences.
I mean, what if he, as an ambassador and "voice" of K-State publicly declared he thought Obama was a space alien...never mind. It would actually be less embarrassing if he thought that. So, bad example.

making his employer look bad (especially when the employer needs to market itself like KState does) is a 100% valid reason to fire someone. The first amendment protects his right to say what he wants, which is why he's allowed to continue to say whatever he wants to his heart's content. however, the first amendment does not protect him from anything his free speech causes. his job being a govt. job has absolutely nothing to do with it.

So a branch of the Government has a right to fire a person over his speech? What about Ward Churchill and his stuff a few years back. They only got rid of him because they found out he plagiarized a bunch of his papers and thus violated his integrity clause of his contract with Colorado.
-
"do whatever you want"

It seems to me that he tried to claim his first amendment rights were violated and then he got mushed by the supreme court.

I'm pretty sure that what you say in a public meeting in an effort to deny Kansans a choice in voting for Obama this election, regardless of the fact that he has no shot at winning Kansas anyway, is not something he is doing in his private life.

Please don't tap out before I clown you on this false equivalency. And this is going to be so easy that it will be boring to me, so I think maybe I'll try this one in the style of daris or 'sclams. Ready?
well now i do believe i've seen it all. just when i thought it couldn't get any worse on this dumb blog site you go and say something so idiotic that my time might be better spent just talking to a brick wall because that's essentially what i'm doing anyway when i talk to someone with the brains of one. man oh man "storm" nut. i mean i don't even. i just don't even. let me spell out the difference between beth mendenhall and joe montgomery for you so explicitly that even you could get it: one of these people is trying to take something that could be seen as exclusive and make it more inclusive for everyone. the other is a person who, every home caturday, reads this to 50,000 people:
"we the people of the united states, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution of the united states of america. we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal. that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. and for the support of this declaration with a firm reliance on a perfection of divine providence, we mutually pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honors. [cue pledge of allegiance]"
seems to me that joe "racist paleface dumbass" montgomery is trying to completely subvert the democratic process and take choice away from kansans by wiping the name of our commander-in-chief off the ballot completely (while simultaneously putting up a front every caturday of being all about liberty and "promoting the general welfare.") do you not see this as a conflict of interest? if you don't then there's nothing me or anyone else can do for you.
but yeah. beth mendenhall trying to be more inclusive for everyone is totally the same thing. totally the same. yeah okay.

I would guess it would also be press releases and things like essentially being the public voice of the department. Which I would have guessed he could handle but this whole ordeal kind of makes me question that.

Kind of glad he stepped away from his public role at K-State now, after seeing his videos. Still don't think he should be fired from his job though.

From his day to day job, unless his views effect the way he does his job there is no grounds for termination. He has the right to speak his mind.

His youtube videos are disgusting, but that is "speaking his mind". When he goes before an incredibly biased panel and tries to get somebody removed from the ballot for a completely baseless reason, that is not speaking his mind. It's trying to impose his views on the entire state.
