"....I will just have to go back and check the film. One play was not the difference in the game. They out coached us and they out played us.”
-Miami (FL) Head Football Coach Al Golden
Offensive Explosion! A biscuit shy of 500 yards. 8 for 11 on 3rd down. 7-8 in the RZ (6 TDs). 7.0 ypp. Klein gonna Klein. Had an excellent day passing (9 of 11! 210 yards!) save for one very poorly thrown ball it would've been about as good as it gets. Hubert looked his normal productive self. Receivers racked some YAC, some guy named Curry Sexton caught a Touchdown.
Defensive Dominance Brown played like an All-American. Milo looks like he is going to add some much needed depth around a banged up secondary. 7 different players had TFL, 4 players had sacks, 3 players had fumble recoveries, 3 3 and outs.
Doerr back.
Daniel Sams has rushed the ball 6 times. He is averaging 18 yards each time he runs with it. This would probably be longer, but he's been stopped by the endzone 3 of the 6 times he's run with it. I don't know what else to say that hasn't already been said.
So with week 2 in the books let's play The Expectations Game

everyone should set aside time tomorrow (sunday) to reflect/meditate/pray about today's events. expectations can wait for a bit. we, as good people deserving good things, need to take time to fully understand the beauty of what we witnessed.
-
I'm really pumped for the rest of the season, you guys.

Indeed.
Great job, KK.

Oh my word. Where do we start? Let's start with the first half.
The first half (barring "the play," which was hilarious and doesn't really even count as a "negative") was the most impressive half of football I've seen K-State play since 12/6/03. Just totally and completely dominant.
YES we gave up yards in the air and YES I think our secondary will have problems this season. Lucky for us, none of the pass offenses we see this year (even WVU and OU) will be better than the pass offenses we saw last season. That should comfort us.
But the RUN defense! Remember the hype Duke Johnson had coming into this game? We didn't give him an inch. In fact, the Miami boards were BEGGING Golden to stop running the ball because it wasn't working. Felt very, very Lynchmobby. Are you afraid of that Texas run game? Me neither. The Lynch Mob is back. We've arrived. Show that _|m|_ signal with pride.
The Offense was absolutely incredible. Kleinsy was Kleinsy and in the future, I think he'll be Kleinier than ever. More on that in a second. But his throwing has gotten better. I'm at the point now, where if I see Klein drop back, step up and throw downfield, I have full confidence that good things are going to happen. 9-11 for 210 yards and 70+ yards rushing? Those are Bishop-esque stats, folks.
Hubert? I'm just so proud of him. LOL at the dumbasses who didn't, or don't, think he is a quality back. He has shown it, and will continue to do so.
Now it's #lifetime. That guy is the real deal. We haven't seen him pass, but he can't be (skill-wise) worse than what we saw out of Klein last year. The only potential draw-back could be (COULD BE) his decision making. Ell was a good passer, but made dumbass decisions in his youth. My point is here, is that we're set at QB until Sams leaves us. What a luxury for a LHC Bill Snyder team.
Further, he proved he is an effective quarterback against BCS competition. What does that mean? That this business of "Klein getting hurt ruins the season for K-State" ends, here and now. We have a defense, we have a good running back, we have a terrific offensive line, and we have a future All-Big 12 talent as a back-up quarterback. We're a worse team without Klein, but we're still a very good team without Klein.
I'm not worried about Klein getting hurt. Run him 50 times a game if we have to. That's what's best for our offense, and now we can do it without being terrified about the risk. That's bad news for the rest of the Big 12, and the rest of the national title contenders (you read that right).
We are a good team and there is no ceiling as to what this team can accomplish. I'm one of the most optimistic people when it comes to K-State football, and I was optimistic throughout the off-season about this team's capabilities. And I underestimated them. We can get the Dr. Pepper, and we have as good a shot as anybody to go to the national championship game. Will it happen? Probably not, but it can and that's an incredible realization. As far as I'm concerned, this season is two games long: OU and WVU. Those teams are not unbeatable. I think we're better than both.
That said they're both on the road and they'll both be very hard games and we'll be dogs in both of them - the only two times in the season we'll be dogs, imo.

I think the most amazing thing about this team is that they truly believe in themselves. Last year gave them reasons to believe in themselves, now they are proving their worth each day.
Klein and Brown are unbelievable leaders. Role players like Lockett have pedigree and Hubert, a chip on their shoulder. And Sams? Swag for days.
This is going to be fun.

Yeah, he played the best game of his career yesterday - against his former team. I bet that revenge made Arthur feel pretty good. Then I bet Arthur felt a little bad because of the happiness that revenge gave him.
-
i think we beat ou, and soundly

I think that at the end of the OU game, no matter the outcome, I will cry.

Yep. One of those landmark games we'll remember for years.
-
I expect that, in the next 12 days, Poet Warrior will release her best football video to date.
-
This team is special.
Only one thing left to do.

I expect 11-1 with the only loss being to OU. I also expect OU to lose to Texas, though. This is going to be the best year Kansas State football has ever had.
-
I'm scared to admit how I think this season can end for us.
I don't want to jinx it or admit it to myself.
You just can't have leaders like we have all over the field and not be good.
That game down in Norman is going to be a war. I guarantee you the Stoops' are scared s**tless right now.

I like thinking that this week will be like the old days, where we prepare for North Texas on Monday and then focus on OU the rest of the week.

Yes, if we actually win that game, I will have to come up with somebody else that is going to beat us. I just don't think I can handle national championship expectations, especially this early in the season.

Anything less will result in being slightly disappointed at the end of the year. Let that soak in. Last year was incredible, but I think everyone walked out of the Jerrydome a bit sad, disappointed, and wondering what could have been. This year is the same, only with a higher baseline.

WVU on the road is too much, but we shock OU and do the business against the rest while WVU loses 2 (like us last year) and we get the Dr. Pepper :excited:
-
I still haven't seen anything from West Virginia that would suggest they are better than last year, which would put them about 6th or 7th in the Big 12. I mean, they should be a little bit better, having an extra year under Holgorsen's system and all, but I just don't see the team capable of winning the Big 12 that everyone else sees, I guess.
-
I can't read this thread. I'm getting way too anxious about the season.
-
West Virginia's defense won't be able to stop us. Marshall put up nearly 550 on them and 35 points. The Snydercats have them beat on defense and special teams, that's 2/3 of the facets of the game. The game will be close with their home field advantage but in the end, the 1-2-3 punch of Klein, Hubert and Sams will be too much for the WVU defense and Geno Smith simply won't be on the field enough to win the game. The only game I see as a possible loss is Oklahoma. Ever since Stoops has been there LHC Bill Snyder hasn't been able to do much against him with the exception of the 2003 championship. If this were any other K-State team I would also have to predict a loss against an over matched opponent like OSU, since K-State teams have a reputation for doing that in great years. But with possibly the two best leaders ever at K-State in Klein and Brown I just don't see that happening.
11-1 or 12-0 :runaway: :crossfingers:

Sticking with 10-2/9-3. We are a very good team with a very tough schedule. 10-2 could win the league.

I mean, yeah, we're pretty damn good. But Miami is basically a middling ACC team with 4-5 star talent, aka Florida State of 5 years ago. Crushing them is great, but it's not enough to make me jump on the 10-2/11-1 bandwagon yet. Winning @WVU, @OU, and @TCU is going to be tough as all hell. WVU has the offense to expose any flaws in our defenses and make up for their own defensive flaws. OU, while more out of sorts than previous years, still has the talent to beat our asses and just doesn't rough ridin' lose at home.
I don't buy the hype that TCU will be significantly down despite their offseason. Their offense will be upper level Big 12 and their defense just held Grambling to under 80 total yards and no points. Yeah, Grambling is a bad SWAC school, but holding any team to under 80 yards is impressive. If the game was in MHK, I'd predict it as a win, but I just have a bad feeling about it. If we beat OU at their place, I'll change my tune.

eff it, I am going all in on the excitement with our 'cats. I think we drop one out of the OU/WV/OSU crowd, so I'm going to go ahead and put it on WVU. To beat our "bend but don't break" and long drive forcing defense, you have to be efficient. You have to string together multiple 10-15 play drives. We rely on the eventual turnover or penalty to kill it. This year, if the Miami game is any indication, our pass rush/sacks are a new option to kill a drive as well as limit our pass defense's exposure. OU/WV/OSU are the only teams I think that are capable of operating at the level of offensive efficiency needed to beat us (you could perhaps buy into Baylor). The OU game will be dependant on which Jones shows up. TCU and Texas have decent defenses, but I think their offenses are far too incomplete.
10-1 and outright Dr.P. WV drops one stupid one and one to OU/TCU/TEXAS.

On a side note, this is from ESPN insider...
Take some more time with Kansas State
The Kansas State Wildcats played an outstanding game against the Miami Hurricanes, winning 52-13. No question about that. But don't automatically make the Wildcats a Big 12 contender based on that one result. The Hurricanes are going to be woefully outmatched most weeks, and Saturday was a huge physical mismatch.
The point: Don't lose sight of the fact that K-State won eight (or 10) games last season by an average of 4.5 points a game. It's a tough-nosed, disciplined team that's going to play hard every Saturday, but that has to eventually even out.
A huge test is coming in two weeks for the Wildcats, who go to Norman to face an Oklahoma Sooners team that beat them 58-17 in Manhattan in 2011. If they can even make it a game in the fourth quarter against the Sooners, then maybe it's time to start seriously considering K-State in the league race.
For now? Stay grounded after pummeling a bad team.
So, am I the only one that is sick of hearing these pundits make this "point" about how since we sone close games last year, we can never win another close game again?
-
I don't think anybody is making K-State a contender just because of the Miami game. It has a whole lot more to do with K-State being a top 10 team last season and returning 16 starters.
-

Agreed...but to ignore the result entirely based on LAST YEARS results is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)

Also, if you apply his (flawed) logic overall...wouldn't 'things balancing out' mean we are on pace to beat OU 58-17?
-
An important thing I keep trying to remind myself is that 10 wins this year would be, like, 11 wins last year.

Well, I would agree that as a whole, if you play a ton of really close games, you aren't going to win them all, though the better team will usually still win. I still can't figure out why these guys think all of our games will be close like they were last year, though. Miami was a close game last year and we just beat them by a couple thousand points. It seems pretty obvious to me that this team is much better offensively than last year's team and at least as good defensively.
