Mods, please ban dax from this thread, tia
These are not in any particular order (except numerical)
1. SAMs is amazing -- Snyder saving secret SAMs plays?? You betcha! :surprised:
2. 324 rushing yards, 8.1 ypc, and John Hubert doing all those little John Hubert things that we love
3. The return game! I love return yardage and we had a bunch!!! :excited:
4. 35 points in one quarter -- only other B12 team to do that yesterday was Okie State :gocho:
5. Our score "looks fine" on paper, the pollsters only know that we won 51-9 and don't know any of the details
6. That one volleyballer (Alex something) on the jumbotron was pretty hot
7. Niles and Frasier looming over the stadium
8. Klein with good accuracy, no turnovers, hit 7 receivers, obvi was told not to run but when he did looked good and HE THREW A FADE
9. Cantele 3/3 FG 6/6 XP
10. New punter guy sacrificing his body for SAMs sake, this was very inspiring to me (espn should do a piece)

Very few serious injuries!

Me too! I was cheering like we won the game when that play happened. Everyone was confused why I cared so much at that point. I just looked at them and said Sams, baby. Sams.
-
Baby Lockett looks healthy.
Hubert separated from the defense.
Snyder didn't seem to hate the fireworks as much.
Klein/Harper 2012 is off to a great start.
-
I hope there is a proposal every game!
-
I thought the game was great actually.
YES, there could have been sacks and YES our pass D got shredded. Still though, we played opportunistically enough to only allow 9 points. We kept them out of the end zone. That's terrific. We got turnovers. Another terrific thing. Had we got shredded, AND not gotten any turnovers AND given up 20+ points, I would've been more worried. Under the circumstances though, I'm okay with how our defense performed yesterday. Assuming, of course, that it improves. Which it will.
Re. the offense, especially in the first half - it looked really bad, because we weren't really running "our" offense. That's not to say we were being vanilla, because we weren't, but last year, our offense worked because we ran Klein 30+ times a game, most of which were by design. How many designed runs did Klein have in the first half? 2 or 3 maybe? My point is, is that in the first half, we tried to pass more than we did last year. That's not what our offense will do this season, but it was an opportunity to go out and get some live practice in with little risk. It didn't look pretty, and that's certainly not a good thing, but our passing offense could have significantly improved over the off-season, but we won't be able to really tell, until we pass within the parameters of our offense.
Loved Sams.
Was REALLY excited for Hubert. I thought for sure that bastard was going to tackle him at the Missouri State ~40 or wherever, but he didn't! Hubert FINALLY broke one! Good for him. He showed that he at least has the capability for a big play. I still think by the time he's done here, a lot of people (Manhatter, and others) are going to be sorry for suggesting that he's a liability in the backfield.
Thompson had a very, very good game yesterday.
Fan, it seemed like our offense was running at a much quicker pace. I was pretty pak'd during the game, but it seemed like we were snapping the ball with ~15 seconds left in the playclock. Also, I didn't notice any check with me stuff. That, along with our insistance of passing in the first half seemed like the pace of the game was just out of character for us. Do you think that had any impact on the defensive numbers? Looks like Mo State got 77 snaps yesterday. Is that significantly more than our opponents got last season?
-
Maybe our offense has a lot of Andre McDonald plays in it. Not having him really set us back. Good thing it's only for the first game!
Also, Dlew, I'm jumping on the Hubert bandwagon with you. I was tempted after the Iowa St. game last year, but after yesterday, I'm fully on board. I'm sorry it took a 95yd run to make me commit.

It's okay, Jake. There's still a lot of room on here.

Lockett looks bigger/stronger/meaner.

Yes! We are awesome after proposals

Good observations. In fact, I thought our offense didn't really start picking up until we started playing faster with no huddle. And there were no "check with me"s that I remember, all checks were done by CK on his own.

Can that continue? Has Snyder ever let other QBs do their own checks for an entire season?

I thought the "check with me" thing is a relatively new phenomenon. I may be wrong here, but I think that in the past, it was up to the quarterback to read the defense, and if something was out of wack, he'd look to the sideline for a signal or make his own check.
That's a little different than the check with me that we instituted last season, where, no matter the play, the quarterback (and the rest of the skill players) would turn to the sideline, no matter what, during the pre-snap, to see if there was anything out of wack that the coaches up in the box would see. At which point, coaches would either signal to keep the current play, or signal the check in.

This is correct. Snyder only started using check with me stuff since he's come back.

OMG the fireworks
They were actually really good. The 3 flamethrowers... :D
-
11. Not a whole lot of penalties!
12. Turnovers? Nope!
-
we scored 42 unanswered points against another football team
-
I'm a sucker for a punt return TD.

HOT HOT HOT

I thought the line in the first half did a very good job of giving Collin time. He just couldn't find/decide who to throw it to.
-
I think I have seen Klein throw to the first guy he looked at maybe twice in the first half. I mean, he was probably looking guys off part of the time...but he was being given time.
-
At the end of the second quarter we brought 6 guys on the blitz, it was 3rd and 10 and we drew a false start. That was fun.
-
Is Klein just super, super picky when deciding whether a guy is covered?
I think so. I think he'd rather die than throw a pick. Probably a good thing for us.
He launched a huge duck to Harper in the first half in the back of the end zone that would have probably been a TD if Klein got it off cleanly.
The fake draw, jump pass to Lockett out wide was a hoot.
-
Klein is selective with his passes like he is selective with his women: selective.

Yep.
Those passes don't get launched frequently. When they do, they are well thought out, and very short.
-
Was anyone else having a "moment" in the early third quarter where you were pretty worried. I mean, I know the outcome, and I still am as I watch this.

for sure. They are not thrown wantonly, he saves his passes for productive purposes, not just for the (selfish) pleasure of doing it. He never wants one of his throws to spill on the ground, for that would be wasteful.

of course. i usually go to a really dark place emotionally when it gets like that.

Actually no. At half time, I was just a little annoyed that we had to "go through this again." I was never in doubt of the game, because as I alluded to earlier in this thread, or maybe a different one - I forget, we really weren't running our offense. I knew that, if we so chose, we could score at will by just having Klein run between the tackles 7 times a drive. I was more annoyed that our gameplan wasn't taking off like Snyder intended.
But no, there was no "moment" for me. We would've had to have been down by two scores in the second half for me to have had "a moment."

It is better to throw the pigskin at a hooker than to spill it on the rock.

Sunshine! I thought our O-line looked great! those are some nice big dudes doing nice things!

I 100% agree! I mean I knew we were losing experience but gaining talent, and that it was Mo State, but those guys aren't bad at all!
