Sunflower has great convenience, I'll have to agree. I however have been a 15 year member of the Kansas State Federal Credit Union. Cannot speak to any benefits other than good ole hometown customer service.

Pro tip: make sure the bank has an ATM in Aggieville. Make sure the bank isn't Commerce.

I used Sunflower in MHK...great bank, only crappy thing is that the online services kind of suck (or at least did when I was there).  But the hours and customer service are amazing.

Sunflower covers monthly atm fees since they only have two in MHK. Those fees covered are good anywhere. I think it's up to 6 or 8. I forget.

maybe i'm in a minority, but i've never had to deal with customer service from a bank, or even talk to people at a bank once i got an account.

i just pick the one that has the most convenient locations for me.

Normally I would have come into this thread guns blazing to defend Commerce. They did a very good job when a restaurant got their system hacked and my account was compromised. But lately they've been pulling some crap, so eff them, I'm about to change too.

Yes, avoid Commerce.

They really, really liked to misplace deposits when I was a student (this is pre-online banking). So I would deposit a check on a Monday morning, expecting it to be credited by the close of business Tuesday at the latest, per their own policy.

First time I ever got an overdraft was for purchasing books on a Thursday after making a Monday deposit. Also went out to eat and stopped by Wal-Mart. Sure enough, 3 overdraft fees on Friday because the charges were processed before the deposit, that magically reappeared that Friday.

Went in, spoke with a CR person who claimed it was an honest mistake and I gave them the benefit of the doubt after they reversed the fees etc.

Less than a month later had to go through the same process after it took 3 days for another check to clear. They reversed the charges again and I closed the account. Went to #money4life and have never had a problem since.

Sunflower is a good choice in manhattan.  Cap fed is also a good choice especially if you plan to move to KC after school and want to keep the same bank.  Cap fed has a good foot print in most of Kansas.

I could see this being possible for a checking account, but not for a loan.

Community 1st has been really good to me. It's especially good if you have a business account because of their checking account interest rates.

Kansas State Bank has the best rates on checking accounts, and they're in Aggieville.
