Are the Sleep Number beds or Tempur-Pedic beds worth the money?
If not what brands and the best for the money?
-
sleep number beds are for rubes
quality brand memory foam mattresses are well worth the money
-
TempurPedic is fantastic.
Wonderful.
Def worth it.
-
We bought a terrible crap mattress. Will now buy a tempur pedic or other quality brand memory foam mattress.

Count me as a rube that loves his sleep number bed. Chiropractor told me that he had customer who loved both, but never had anyone say they didn't love the sleep number bed. He said that he has had some clients who did not like memory foam.
-
You can also count me in. I love my sleep number.
-
I've heard that memory foam get's hot and doesn't breathe well. True or false?
-

I'm like a furnace at night and have no issues with the memory foam
-
Its cold as crap where I live, memory foam sounds good

I heard that was the cheap crap.

I found out a couple weeks ago that the mattress I'd been using for the last year (that I got rid of when I moved), belonged to my brother in law's >60 year old father when he was in school.
Super weirded out when I found out about that.
-
protip - spend money on a good mattress. it's pretty damned important

it is so important, everybody.
also: 4" memory foam on pillowtopped simmons beautyrest
-
I spent a jillion on mine and it's pretty good.

this, even if you don't get a memory foam get a good mattress; it's well worth it
-
I cheaped out and bought a crappy one sided pillow top. WTF was I thinking? Ive had it for like a year and I sleep terribly because of it. I swear I can actually feel one of the springs poking me in the back. It reminds me of that Adam Sandler song Piece of crap Car only its a mattress and the spring doesnt poke me in the balls. Oh, eff you bed.
-
no matter what mattress you get, get a california king size. more room to sprawl out.
-
I just have a normal pillow top mattress and I sleep great. But I fall asleep in the shower a lot so I can sleep pretty much anywhere.
-
i fall asleep on my couch all the time, absolutely love it.
-
King size or GTFO! :blank:

The Rickey Henderson of mattresses.
-
My couch is stupid comfy and I would love to sleep on it but it was expensive so I can't. I'm weird about spending money.
:embarrassed:
-
Is the beauty rest system thingy better than standard memory foam mattress? The commercials are pretty convincing.
-

Also...how the eff that is that thing so expensive?
-
I want to say my folks spent like 5K on their fancy ass, adjustable, memory foam bed. (Not sure if the number is correct) Regardless, that bed better suck my D every single night for that kind of money.
-
Cal King. Memory Foam. Sheex brand sheets. Best sleep I've ever gotten. First bed I've ever had in my adult life that my feet don't hang off the end. Worth every damn penny.
-
Along the same lines, can we also talk about pillows? I mean, I have been trying to buy a new pillow for over a year now and just can't. Mine is def about done and I have gone far too long. I go and feel all of them, but they just don't feel quite right. I recently bought a memory foam one and used it one night. How do you pick a new pillow?

We have a Serta iComfort memory foam. Like it a lot, and cheaper than Tempurpedic.
-
I have a Simmons Memory Foam and love it
-
look, make a list. keep it organized.
-
All mattresses are good.
-
All things considered, bro-in-law's dad mattress held up pretty well for being 40+ years old. I could pass along his contact info if anyone is interested.
-
fine, you lazy fucks. i'll make the list. i'll get to it in a couple of hours.
-
i'm not going to embarrass posters individually, but obviously some people contributed more helpful recommendations and reviews than others.

Good to know. I have one of the fancy pocket coil mattresses. It's great but I'm interested in the foam.

King size or GTFO! :blank:
This is inarguable. Never settle for anything but a king, mattress-wise. The more room the better.
-
I've been looking for a new mattress. I don't like the foam mattresses. They feel funny.
-

Did this about two yrs ago. Love that bed.
-
very happy with our Serta iComfort. Tempurpedic made me too hot. The iComfort has a different foam on top that helps.
-
Whatever you do, make sure you don't buy your mattress from those squawks that own Mattress Hub.
-
I'm going to invent a bed that is exactly like the passenger seat of a car.

delivered this morning. the "off gassing" or smell isn't nearly as bad as some dumbasses make it out to be in reviews. it's slightly stronger than most other new mattresses, but not by much. obviously more firm than the one in the store, but that's to be expected.
I waited way too long to upgrade mattresses and my old one was starting to take a toll on my body, so I'll probably go to bed at like 7:00 tonight. I'll try and remember to update tomorrow.

Our guy told us to walk on it to break it in for a while before using it. We let the kids get on it and go nuts for like an hour.
Love that bed.
-
I would have figured out a better way to break it in. :fatty:

Tempurpedic Cloud. King size. It has dual chambers.
Fing love it. Costs like four grand, though.

Yeah, but every night you laydown on it you tell your self that it was one of the best purchases you have ever made.

first night was good. it's going to take some getting used to. my body felt significantly better when I woke up this morning. I did wake up a few times in the middle of the night, but i think that was probably because it's such a different feel than a "traditional" mattress. it's also probably going to take a few weeks to really break it in. I'll try to update in a few weeks.

No, I just sleep.

update: keep waking up sweating on the side that I'm laying on and cold on the other side because I've just got a sheet on. :frown: I've always slept really hot and this just makes it so much worse. think I'm gonna take it back and try the serta icomfort wellbeing. apparently the gel is supposed to help, but the guy at the store said that "tests" showed that the new tempurpedic hd foam in the cloud luxe is cooler than gel. guess I'll find out. I really hope I can find a cooler memory foam because I love it other than the whole waking up cold/sweating part.

Gross. Maybe you should keep the mattress and go to a doctor.

I'm a warm sleeper, and the iComfort has been fine. We have the Revolution or something...
-
I am a warm sleeper too and was super worried about this when I bought my tempur. One tip, if you like the bed but get too hot, try sleeping in a tshirt or tanktop or something. When I do, it is perfect. When I don't, outside of winter, I get a little hot.

Why would putting on a T-shirt or tank top help me stay cool?
-
you can return a sweated up mattress? what do they do with it?

I know. It doesn't make sense, but it works. At least it does for me.

Hi class orphanages
-
you can return a sweated up mattress? what do they do with it?
Disinfect them and send to shop that sells sweated up disinfected mattresses. For real. Those stores exist.

I'm probably going to regret sharing this, but:
Two of my married girlfriends recently bought Tempurpedic mattresses. Yesterday, they both complained that the sex is bad on that mattress. It doesn't really "give" and you get frozen in place. Their input was from a woman's perspective. So :dunno:
This seemed like valuable information that I should share with prospective mattress purchasers.

Very interesting. Not currently in the mattress market, but will definitely file this away for future reference and maybe avoid unfortunate consequences down the road.

it IS a valid issue. But unless you're a dead fish or too big to leave your home, you can adjust.
