Title: What is a good mattress
Post by: Winters on August 28, 2012, 04:39:44 PM
Are the Sleep Number beds or Tempur-Pedic beds worth the money?

If not what brands and the best for the money?

We bought a terrible crap mattress. Will now buy a tempur pedic or other quality brand memory foam mattress.

Count me as a rube that loves his sleep number bed. Chiropractor told me that he had customer who loved both, but never had anyone say they didn't love the sleep number bed. He said that he has had some clients who did not like memory foam.

I found out a couple weeks ago that the mattress I'd been using for the last year (that I got rid of when I moved), belonged to my brother in law's >60 year old father when he was in school.

Super weirded out when I found out about that.

I cheaped out and bought a crappy one sided pillow top.  WTF was I thinking?  Ive had it for like a year and I sleep terribly because of it.  I swear I can actually feel one of the springs poking me in the back.  It reminds me of that Adam Sandler song Piece of crap Car only its a mattress and the spring doesnt poke me in the balls.  Oh, eff you bed.

I want to say my folks spent like 5K on their fancy ass, adjustable, memory foam bed.  (Not sure if the number is correct)  Regardless, that bed better suck my D every single night for that kind of money.

Cal King.  Memory Foam.  Sheex brand sheets.  Best sleep I've ever gotten.  First bed I've ever had in my adult life that my feet don't hang off the end.  Worth every damn penny.

Along the same lines, can we also talk about pillows?  I mean, I have been trying to buy a new pillow for over a year now and just can't.  Mine is def about done and I have gone far too long.  I go and feel all of them, but they just don't feel quite right.  I recently bought a memory foam one and used it one night.  How do you pick a new pillow?

delivered this morning.  the "off gassing" or smell isn't nearly as bad as some dumbasses make it out to be in reviews.  it's slightly stronger than most other new mattresses, but not by much.  obviously more firm than the one in the store, but that's to be expected.

I waited way too long to upgrade mattresses and my old one was starting to take a toll on my body, so I'll probably go to bed at like 7:00 tonight.  I'll try and remember to update tomorrow.

first night was good.  it's going to take some getting used to.  my body felt significantly better when I woke up this morning.  I did wake up a few times in the middle of the night, but i think that was probably because it's such a different feel than a "traditional" mattress. it's also probably going to take a few weeks to really break it in.  I'll try to update in a few weeks.

I'm probably going to regret sharing this, but:

Two of my married girlfriends recently bought Tempurpedic mattresses. Yesterday, they both complained that the sex is bad on that mattress. It doesn't really "give" and you get frozen in place. Their input was from a woman's perspective. So :dunno:

This seemed like valuable information that I should share with prospective mattress purchasers.

Very interesting. Not currently in the mattress market, but will definitely file this away for future reference and maybe avoid unfortunate consequences down the road.

I'm probably going to regret sharing this, but:

Two of my married girlfriends recently bought Tempurpedic mattresses. Yesterday, they both complained that the sex is bad on that mattress. It doesn't really "give" and you get frozen in place. Their input was from a woman's perspective. So :dunno:

This seemed like valuable information that I should share with prospective mattress purchasers.

it IS a valid issue.  But unless you're a dead fish or too big to leave your home, you can adjust.
