Title: Pressure on Charlie Weiss
Post by: Dugout DickStone on August 17, 2012, 09:57:05 AM
Matt Tait reported that this KU team has 7-8 NFL players on it.  My question is, with that much talent and the top flight assistants he has on staff, if Weiss doesn't win 9+ does he get fired?

With a loaded roster and with such lucky teams as KSU and ISU on their schedule, they should roll.

Matt Tait.

  Sounded like he knew what he was talking about.  The ku team is loaded and the only reason they were the worst team in DI was Turner Gill.

I'd be surprised if they didn't average at least 45.3 points a game

They had better talent than K-State last year, but we had a magic wizard and they had Turner Gill, simple as that.

Is Tobin O'perum one of them? Because ku people love to throw his name around.

Yes.  So is the TE and QB who washed out at Notre Dame.  Also, some DE who transferred from Nubb is apparently a NFL D-end for sure.

I would say Toben Opurum has the best NFL potential for them. He's good.

an embarassment of riches (no pun) over in Lawrence.  Legendary NFL coach with rings...check.  Top notch facilities....check.  Stud NFL talent.....double check.

Well Now LHFBC Weis don't have to pay attention to anything the critics say.

I hope they have a good insurance policy for the goalposts at Memorial Stadium because I expect them to get torn down A LOT this season!

Yeah, That Jon Kirby guy(or whatevs his name is), the one who tries really hard to sound exactly like Bill Self, said on 810 last week that the Nubb washout and the ND failure will both be best at their positions in the entire Big 12.  How can they fail with the best D End in the confy?  I would be surprised if Klein doesn't get two elbows flowing by the end of that one.

Also, how bad would KU beat the Chiefs this year?  I bet a lot.

Weiss has seen the bullets fly and, I believe, can handle the weight of expectations.

Looks like South Dakota State is building a new stadium. After they beat KU they can check goalposts off the need to buy list.

I heard that Kirby guy on the radio saying some of the same things.  He said the DE from NU was a sure fire NFL player.   He was like a backup rotation guy at NU but he did at least least play some as oppossed to the Notre Dame guys who didnt' play at all.  NU and Notre Dame must be flat loaded to have all those NFL talents on the bench.

Pretty much changing my mind on ku.

If they don't go bowling, you'd have to call this season a massive disappointment.

I see Dave Campo pushing all the right buttons on defense, and we know that Coach Hov-a-round is going to be  schematically superior than everyone he faces.

I bet there are a lot of coaches who wish they inherited a "plug n play" team like this.  I know he does better when the pressure is highest though.

Charlie Weiss:  the second best plug n play coach in the Big 12 (after oscar, of course).

Question that needs to be answered is does Shannon Zinger have the ability to secure prominent bowl, like Lew Perkins?

can't tell if you are joking or not, but it'd be pretty tough for anyone's 2nd string to beat someone's starters, even a team as talented as KU.

Didn't most of the posters here go to school for undergrad at K-State (the poorest school in the Big 12, with the worst academics outside of Texas Tech)?

If Big 12 was still divided into North and South I'd put money on KU winning the North. I doubt they can win at OU, but if they were playing OU in Lawrence this year, things would get interesting.

This is a quarterback league.  Last year, they had the worst in the conference.  Now they have the best.  8 wins should be viewed as absolute minimum, 11 is a real possibility with a true gunslinger at the helm.

Charlie Weis is a master QB coach.  I expect Dayne Christ to shrug off his lackluster ND career and make a run for the Heisman this season.  We're so mumped this year. i hate it when KU is good at football cause those basketball fans are all mean then.

We didn't know the rejects from other programs were first round NFL talent.

Pretty clear that Charlie Weis isn't cut out for KU if he doesn't win the AFC West this year. T's and P's.
