Step 1
Open Paint by clicking the "Start" orb, then choose "All Programs," "Accessories" and "Paint."

Step 2
Hold down the "Ctrl" key and press "O" to invoke the "Open" dialog box. Locate your picture by clicking the drives and/or folders on the left-hand panel. Double-click the picture to open it.

Step 3
Crop the image to remove all unnecessary space. Click "Select" under the "Image" section of the "Home" tab, then select "Rectangular selection." Click and drag your mouse cursor across your photo to create a rectangular dotted selector box. Keep this box as square as possible. Click "Crop" under the "Image" section to crop away everything except what lies in the selector box.

Step 4
Click "Resize" from the "Image" section. Uncheck "Maintain aspect ratio" by clicking the box next to it. Click "Pixels" at the top, and enter "73" or "48" in each box next to "Horizontal" and "Vertical." Click "OK" to resize the image.

Step 5
Click the dark-blue rectangular box at the top right of the "Paint" window. Click "Save as" and choose a new name to prevent saving over the original picture. Click "OK" to save and complete the resizing.
