Mountain time zone - WTF?
-
was always exciting to play @Syracuse for this reason
-
You didn't happen to ask anybody out there WTF, did you?
-
You know who loves this conversation? Cas does.
He'll tell you all about how his hs baseball team would have away games and he'd tell his mom the game is at 6 or whatever, and his mom would say "now is that mountain or central?" And he'd always say "CENTRAL!"
There, Cas. Now you don't have to post it.
-
You know who hates it? Me, and I imagine all the court clerks out there when I call in for a hearing and they're all "Um, yeah, we're in the mountain time zone..." all condescendingly.
Is it just something they do to be different, like when the SW'rs wanted to secede from KS?
-
Sounds like a breeding ground for world travelers. Calculating timezones before they can walk.
-
Imagine if Nick Russell had to play JUCO ball out there.
-
Jake would have had to steal a bike every day just to find out that he is an hour early AGAIN......
-
You didn't happen to ask anybody out there WTF, did you?
yeah, but I don't remember whatever reason it was they told us.

Everyone but sd, it's your chance to steal...

When the U.S. Department of Transportation got into the business of deciding where to draw the lines for time zones back when railroads started crisscrossing the country, that line between Central and Mountain time shot almost straight through the middle of Kansas, about 125 miles east of where it runs today.
Over the last century that line has edged westward and even back and forth and north and south a couple of times. As late as 1990, Kearny County, Kan., was switched back to Central Time from Mountain Time by the Department of Transportation after a series of community meetings.
But what's almost more amazing than anything is that the folks (approx 11,000 residents) in these four counties like their Mountain Time. Twice in recent history - 1990 and 2002 - residents have voted 3-to-1 in favor of keeping their Mountain Time--to keep in line with Denver, CO time.

I still ask, residents of those 4 counties (or at least 3/4 of you), WTF?
-
maybe some other swks elite can back me up, but there's a strange culture among a large chuck of swks that thinks they are from denver.

They should vote on either becoming part of Colorado or becoming central time zone. Pick one.

We should trick them into saying once they merge we'll move the Rockies a few miles East so they can see them better. Suckers
-
I want to kick them out.

Can (somewhat) confirm. They're all Broncos fans out there. I think Trim's right, force them to join Colorado.

we have nothing to lose and everything to gain (by kicking them out)

Can defiinitely confirm. TONS of Broncos fans but also a lot of Rockies and Nuggets fans. Syracuse, for instance, is only about 4.5 or 5 hours from Denver and about 7 or 7.5 from Kansas City...so it kind of makes sense. kind of.
BTW... I grew up 30 miles south of Syracuse and partied there a lot in HS. Got drunk one night and was bored so I pulled over and stole the sign on the north/south highway that says "now entering the central standard time zone." Might still be at my mom's house.

It's 25 minutes from Lakin. Both in KS. Get a Syracuse'r to post here. I need to understand this.

Lakin was mountain time zone until the late 80's. Fact.

Mucho sunshine!

BigCat is from Lakin. He thinks he's from Colorado. He would have some interesting input, and maybe even a yarn or two to spin for us lucky BBS'ers.

BigCat thought he knew me IRL for the longest time. So weird, from my perspective. I wish I knew him, but I don't. Hopefully someday?

Hmmmmm... He does live in Denver now, as do I. Are you from SWK? There's quite a few EMAW's here in Denver... not a ton on this board, but there's a handful.

Mountain time zone is a pain in the ass. In the Central time zone, you know your in hour off of the Eastern showing for whatever television you want to watch. In the mountain, sometimes its Eastern, sometimes its adjusted for Pacific and each channel is different.
People in western Kansas must be rough ridin' idiots.
-
I have no idea why liking Denver/Colorado would make a Far West Kansan want to have a different clock than the rest of Kansas.
-
My favorite is when I'm setting up for a project out in those godforsaken counties and they always say "Now, we're on Mountain Time out here." I guess they feel like they have to be a part of something else.
Playing @Syracuse in high school. :shakesfist:
-
Why would anybody get upset about playing Syracuse in high school? You get out of school an hour earlier to go play the game, then you get home a whole hour earlier than you would have otherwise.

To avoid any more confusion brought on by those darn four counties, here's a link on how time works in the U.S.

Look, I think we all know how time works. I've already acknowledged that I was wrong before you ever came in and corrected it.

Now you have outed yourself. I thought you were trying to add to the confusion that Trim was having.

Yeah, I thought about trying to play it that way but I didn't think anybody would believe me. If I were steve dave, I would just move these last few posts to fanning stuff and hope nobody sees them.

 You're making it worse by acting so butthurt.

Alright, we have a consensus. 4 Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) counties, choose.

living in the central time zone is just perfect for the sports fan. Those 4 counties are weird.

QFMFT.
Know what's weird? "Alaska time." One hour behind Pacific. Awful for sporting events. Awful. I knew Chestnut's hot dog totals hours before I even got to watch it.
