TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Football => Topic started by: Branson Bound on August 02, 2012, 09:27:01 AM

When I was 4 years old my daddy took me to see the greatest team ever, the Kansas State Wildcats play the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. I don't remember much of the game, but I do remember beating those Jackrabbits up and down the field. After the game, I turned to my daddy and said, we whipped 'em good, huh Pa?" And he turned to me and said "we sure did, son. We sure did." I've been a fan of the wildcats ever since, and after every K-State victory, I say a little prayer so that my daddy can get the score in heaven.
What are some of your stories? :ksu:

as a baby back in 1988 (the year of my birth) my parents took me to a cats games in my carseat and put me under the bleachers.
i hear they did the same sort of things with coolers full of booze back in those days. this could all just be hearsay though.

They did other stuff under the bleachers in 1987, for what it's worth.
-
The year was 1943 and I was a young doughboy, fresh out of basic and ready to take on the Nazis all by myself if need be. I was with my best girl and we cheered for the Cats so hard our voices went hoarse.
-
Wow, these stories are great.
Limestone, I would just like to be the first in this discussion to thank you for the great service you have done this proud country. I was beginning to think that I was the oldest guy here!! Who did the cats play and did they win?

Also I don't remember my first one and I can't even gauge which was my first. Probably ~'94 or so.

'43 was a rebuilding year for the Cats as I recall.....probably because of all the chiefs young men who wanted to kick some Nazi and Jap ass instead of competing on the gridiron. The weirdest part of that season was when we split a 2 game series with the Fighting Ichabods of Washburn. What made it weird was both games were in Manhattan. :surprised:

Oh, don't thank me. We were just doing what any Kansas farm boy would have done. We didn't think it was anything special.
As far as the game, we beat the Fighting Ichabods in a tightly contested match. It was a good, physical contest and by the end I was so riled up I could have jumped out there and ran through that line for Coach Haylett myself!

My freshman year was 1995 and I lived at Marlatt 6th floor intensive study and didnt discover beer or football til spring.
Lived at Woodway Apts Fall of 96 and Spring of 97 before moving to 617 Laramie.

1987. This was the middle of the Air Parrish Era, truly great times for KSU. My mom had some friends who had Oklahoma State season tickets and they offered to take me to a game when one of them couldn't make it. I hated OSU and at that time in my young stupid life was not a full fledged EMAW'r. I asked if I would be able to see a real team like OU, Nebraska or Colorado and they were like, LOL no.

i was always screwing around in high school so i was always grounded by my mom but my senior year me and my buddies snuck out and went to a game for the first time. it was AWESOME! i loved it and was hooked like a longhorn. we got busted by my parents who saw us at the game but who cares it was worth it. then i went to junior college at garden city and have been here ever since.
it was Sept. 5, 2009 K-State played host to UMass we won, 21-17!

2004 season against Lafayette I think. Sproles set the single-game rush record that game IIRC.

It was November 8, 1986 in Manhattan. Got to see Thurman Thomas for Oklahoma State run up and down the field as the Cats lost 23-3. But the ticket was free, so I was happy. Attendance: a measly 21,270.

Normally I don't condone disobeying your parents, but in this case I will make an exception. I was at that game, and it was a doozy! I hope your parents understood how important LHOFHC LHC Bill Snyder is to our program and all of our fans and how his first game back just couldn't be missed! EMAW and GO CATS!!!

Daddy Lockett blocked a punt and recovered for a TD in the south endzone funner no porta potty zone where we were sitting. This is also where you can't see the tv unless u have a telescope (for north minitron...11 years before we got our bigger plasma/lcd tv 480p 60hz lmao)
If I remember right, we kicked some serious ass but I was only 13 so its a bit fuzzy might have to go back and watch the highlights on the DoD
-
Sept 12 1970 KSU entered the season ranked 13 and destroyed Utah St. 37-0 they then went on the road with back to back loses to Kentucky and Arizona St., knocking them from the rankings. On Oct the 3rd of that same year The Cats pulled off their first victory over a top ten team beating #8 Colorado in Manhattan 21-20.On Nov.the 14th they traveled to Lincoln as the 20th ranked team in the nation but fell to defeat 13-51.
They would not return to the top 20 until 1993.
-
My freshman year (1996) I wasn't even interested in football but my roommate at the time convinced me I should buy season tix before they sold out. Think of how much money I could have spent on hookers and blow since then... :curse:

Just went back and watched it...Daddy Lockett    OMG so many amazing catches that season. Turns out he did not block a punt that day but the blocked punt did happen. Minitron was not yet on vanier... :surprised: :surprised: :surprised: I guess we had to buy it as part of the agreement to get into the Big 12?!?

November 22nd 2003 saw the cats beat missery. The game was at night, cold as hell, and kind of rainy. Had to drive back in a hail storm but it was well worth it. My heart was warm with excitement since we sealed yet another north championship and set a date for the Dr. Pepper.

Lived in jardine with my parents from 89 to 91 and went to many games with my dad at halftime.
UNLV in 93 at 11 years old is the first game I specifically remember though.

Not football, but my first wild wild cats game was the last game in Ahearn. I was 4 months old. I remember the game vividly.

The first one I really remember was ISU in 2000. Before then I went to a few with my parents and some family friends, but I only remember bits and pieces.
In 2000 my godfather brought me along on the Cat Tracker, which was super cool back then. Now, looking back it was the very definition of K-State0, but I don't really GAF. I sat club level on the east side, munched on peanuts and drank soda the entire time and watched my Cats dominate. I had just started playing pop-warner football at the time, and it was my first live game since I had started, so I soaked up every down. It's a pretty cool memory for me, as I imagine most people's first Cat games are.

I know that I've gone to ones before this one. But the first game I remember was 96 Nebraska.
-
I believe 97 Colorado was my first, don't remember a whole lot, was 7 years old. Willie tackling the fake version of Colorado's secondary mascot got me really amped up, though.
-
I am told my first game was a few years before, but the first football memory I have at the stadium involved Chad May and JJ Smith running around. First game I actually remember who we played/what happened would be either Oklahoma or KU in 1995, whichever one was first.
-

I helped carry part of the goalpost to Aggieville after this one.
-
Not my first game, but the first one I have really strong memories of was the 16-16 tie vs. Colorado in 1993.
-
Man, part of me is like "Some of you guys are so old it's hilarious," but then I see some one post their first EMAW game in the Prince era and I'm like "LOL, newbie."
Being 22 going on 23 years of EMAW is unique I guess?

i have missed a total of 10 home games since 1992.

My first game ever was my freshman year at K-State, 1996. Cats beat Texas Tech in the inagural Big 12 game.

2003 vs UMass
2006 vs Iowa State

'08 - Mont.St., LLaf, NU, ISU
-
I think it was 10/25/96 vs. OU. Don't really remember it. I wasn't into KSU sports at the time.
-
'96 vs. ISU for me.
-
the absolute earliest i can remember is the eddie robinson classic at arrowhead, august 2000.
we had season tickets as a family since like 97 though, and i vaguely remember rolling down the northwest hill and high fiving the players, once i got a glove from michael bishop, then one from brandon archer..
man i hate that i can't remember anything more. i can only really remember the ERC in KC and then beating Mizzou in 2003 at home to head to KC for the big 12 champs.
-
once i got a glove from michael bishop
:dubious:
-
Actually mine was the ERC, forgot about that. Parents are both iowa squawks, but 8 year old 'meister was in purple. It was like a million degrees out that game.

yup. found out what the "nosebleeds" were at that game. went in with a purple jersey, came out with red skin.

9/5/1998. Indiana State.
-
First game in BSFS, '98 6a state championship game, I was just a young lad, watched Olathe North win on a 4th and 5 32 Banana power over those hayseed garden city kids. Was a pretty good memory. Probably why I went to k-state for my education at all.
First 'Cats game at BSFS was 2004 vs. WKU, was pretty hydrated, dont remember much.
First game I remember watching getting beat handily by Fresno State with my dad, really ruined his visit.
Best 'Cats game at BSFS was for sure the 2006 win over Texas.

Grew up in Fairway, Ks., now just part of the Shawnee Mission area. Graduated from HS in '62 and went on to KSU. Saw my first game in the fall of '62. Pretty bad football backn then. Coach was Doug Weaver. I think he got burned in effigy about every week. First real win of significance was against OU back in '69 (59 - 21). I had just come back from the service.
Didn't have any excuse for not making games my first year. I lived in West Stadium Hall, right under the stands. Fifty years ago this Fall. Most of you guys weren't even thought of yet.

1978 Played Okie State Don't recall the outcome. Doubtfull if 15K folks were even there.
Back then one could bring in as much alcohol as you could carry. You needed it to watch the cats back then. ;-(
Hoops at Ahearn was pretty badass tho. Placed rocked, literally.
-
Don't remember when my first game was, probably sometime in 94. But haven't missed a single home game since 96. :gocho:
-
Being an MHK'r AND a graduate of K-State Cats Purple University, I have been to hundreds of thousands of ksu cat football games so it is literally impossible for me to name my first. But my first memory of a game (had been going to them before I was able to form memories) was some team with yellow that probably ended up being Missouri (likely '87). I was little and didn't know about football pads. Just thought that when you got to college if you were a football player you lifted weights to the point that you got really big, boxy shoulders.
:D

what? isn't that what happens? surely they don't wear pads. real athletes don't need pads. hence why water polo can't be a real sport.
-
Guys there is no way I can say when my first game was. I was too young to remember. I can tell you that my pops was watching a wildcat bball game on the tube while my mother was in labor with me.
Also, Mrs. WNK's pops actually left the hospital to watch a bball game at a bar while her mother was in labor.
We both come from EMAW families. I need to make sure that when Mrs. WNK is ready to have her first that we continue the tradition and time it accordingly. A summer birth would be awful.

I was one year and 5 months old
KSU and KU in Memorial Stadium in Manhattan
17,985 in attendance
Final Score 3-3
KSU finished that season 0-9-1
KSU outscored 226 to 66 on the season
-
First game was 1988 Iowa in MHK. I was young and all I remember was the yell-leaders from each team kept picking the opposing mascot, spreading his legs and ramming balls into the goal posts. I thought that was really funny. Eventually enough people left that I got to steal someones chair-back, and was really happy about that.
My dad was a Hawkeye. He brought the whole family; the Iowa grandparents and all. Even LHC Bill Snyder was there.
I since converted the old man to a Wildcat. He as not missed a home game since 1998.

Same game as Steve Dave's 1st in '97, the first game of the year vs. Ohio. Was Bishop's first ever game as a Cat.

2nd I think. Also, Bish played horribly and they had to burn Beasley's redshirt to bail us out.
-
You're right. His first was at Northern Illinois. First home game fwiw.
-
9/27/1997 58-0 crushing of Bowling Green. Got a #7 Bishop jersey after have been hooked on the atmosphere of BSFS since. First heartache was the 94 Aloha Bowl.
-
K-State beat CU, it was cold and wet and K-State sucked. There was about 20,000 there.
'78? A rare win for Futility U. My first was the Probation Bowl vs. O-State that same year.
-
I was gestating during the '82 Independence Bowl.

guys, this is totally weird, but my family always did too! all i remember is that i loved that indoor pool and that they served a great buffet breakfast.
-
Yeah I always used to associate the holidome with ping pong, mini golf, and that chlorine smell from the pool.
Now I associate it with an eerily empty Patty O'Quigley's and that chlorine smell from the pool.

they still serve the breakfast. so good.
holidome memory:
when we played KU in 07, (he beat talib!) i was a nervous wreck and didn't sleep the night before. I went down to eat breakfast at like 6 am and on the way down the stairs I ran into RP. I asked him if we were going to win, he said "you bet." I felt cheated.

I have a similar story about Frank Martin, at the current HI, and referring to us beating KU BBall in Lawrence (I think it was E8 year). I was also cheated.
-
I got tape from the front desk of the Holidome and added the "D" in the middle of the FIRE PRINCE shirt just as RP was leading a wildcat walk through the lobby. Story detailed in the box-framed shirt auctioned at fattyfest.

I had season tickets for the 2000 season, but the only game I attended was against Nubb. Pretty awesome game if any of you recall.

Hello!
I have never been to the United States but am looking forward to visiting Kansas State football some day.

I stayed in the Holidome with some family and friends on New Year's Eve the year we crap-stomped Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl. AND I'M FROM MHK!
-
My first in person was the KU game in Lawrence in 1992 for a 31-7 beatdown with Gilbert Brown and Dana Stubblefield just destroying Smargisso all day as my EMAW was baptized by fire. First game in the Memorial Stadium that does not smell like stale piss was the 35-0 shut out of Minnesota.

i don't remember my first game, but my first bowl game was the fiesta bowl against syracuse. so much fun

Being that we are all probably in our early 20s, I would safely say we hung out at the Holidome in the pool/put put/ping pong area together as we waited to watch our late 90s dominant cat team play.

there are maybe 5 people on this site in their early 20's. sorry to burst your bubble.

You are way off.

there are more people in their early 30's on this site than early 20's.

1990 23-17 victory over OSU. Shortly there after my parents started their own business and had triplets. My dad and I made it over for 6-8 games between 1990-2000.
-
Does 30 count as early 30's or late 20's? Sometimes I'm not sure.

I sat with Pete and we party rocked like the original jersey shore.

I figured he just wandered the aisles during games

I hung out with three others on here that are in their early-mid twenties yesterday, and at least 5 different ones last wednesday/thursday, that makes at least 9.
-
^ Make that at least 10.

I wish I remembered my first game :frown:
don't :frown: y-l_a. this most likely just means you are an elite MHK'r with tons of experience going to wild wild cats games...and that feels good.
