Title: OT...do you like to screw with people?
Post by: Trim on July 21, 2012, 10:32:59 AM
I don't mean it in a bad or cruel way...just messing with people. For example, I have a good friend who's last name is Roshasdvist...no, it's not pronounced phoenetically...it's "Roza-vist". Anyway, he was telling me a story about being at a ticket counter one time, and the lady pulled up his i.d. and said, "Thank you Mr....Uh....Roshashadvshits" to which he replied, without missing a beat..."It's Perkins".

She smiled and said, "Oh I'm sorry Mr. Perkins. Thank you and have a nice day."

I mean, are people really this stupid? (That's a rhetorical question) Here's what I did just yesterday. I was working on some equipment and needed to call a parts house in Iowa to get a specific part. While the gal was waiting on her computer, she asks, "Has it been dry down there too?"

I replied (one of my Dad's favorites) "It's so dry, I caught a catfish lastnight with a tick on it."

She says, "Really??"

I responded, "Yep. Stuck to that catfish right behind it's ear. Big tick too!"

She says, "Man, I knew the ticks were bad this year, but I didn't think they were that bad."

Ok, now I almost felt sorry for this person because either she is so dumb she doesn't realize that catfish don't have ears so how could the tick be there...or she has been so sheltered that she doesn't realize what a catfish is.

I love messing with people...if you catch them off guard just a little, you can have them believing that you're the Queen of England.

Surely I'm not the only one that does this...who else has a story?

Get Perkins to post here.

I like screwing with people I know, not strangers.

totally... can't think of any specific stories.  They're mostly in response to asinine pleasantries from strangers like: "Did you have a good weekend?"

I know you don't really care about my weekend... we don't know each other.  I don't give a crap about your weekend and you don't give a crap about mine.   My wife thinks I'm mean, but if they're attempting to brighten my day, what better way than to eff with them?   It usually ends with all parties smiling.

Yeah, I like to screw with people I don't know from time to time.

A few months ago I got a bullshit ticket from a prick of a cop while driving my friends to the bars. I wait a day or two and go pay the ticket at the courthouse. The ticket itself is surprisingly expensive because there were court fees of $40 or something on there which I had to pay whether or not I was actually fighting the ticket. I walk up to the counter and there are two ladies sitting there talking and a guy in a suit brushes my shoulder as he is walking out of the courthouse without saying sorry. I hear one of the girls whisper loudly to the other, "Wow, that guy was really (insert lawyer name here)-ish!"

So I ask, "What does (insert lawyer name here)-ish mean?"

She says, "It means he is a prick. Why, do you know Mr. (lawyer)?"

Without hesitation, I say, "Yeah, he's my uncle!"

The girl I was speaking with looks at the other girl and immediately . The other girl starts cracking up and says to me, "I'm gonna wave your court costs."

I paid my now reasonable ticket and left. I kind of felt bad for lying to her about that guy being my uncle but she shouldn't be telling people that she uses someone else's name as slang for douchebag, right?? Unprofessional.

Before we were married I met Mrs. CF3's older sister who is like 7 years older and already was married with kids at the time, and she was telling some story about some friend getting married to which I respond completely straight faced "I don't believe in marriage, its a man-made prison.  In fact anyone who gets married is a sucker, I guarantee I never will."  Then I got up and left the room and went into the kitchen for a glass of water or something.  I'm pretty sure the sister called Mrs. CF3 that night and tried to talk her into breaking up with me.

While I agree with the premise and partake often, I don't think it's the same with customer service people (meaning the inference that can be drawn), particularly on the phone.  Most likely she didn't give a crap what you said, just trying to pass the time at her pretty shitty job.  You could have told her you just chopped up a litter of kittens in your basement and ate every other one's head.  Her: "Nu uh."  You: "Yeah, I did.  I really hate kittens."  Her: "Oh, that's too bad.  I'm not much of a cat person myself."  end of convo

Whenever a topic starts with "OT" I assume it's straight from GPC.
