Title: Bobby Petrino and KSU?
Post by: BoondockSooner on July 15, 2012, 12:11:44 AM
Personally I think he'd be a good fit at KSU.  Does a lot with less, looks pretty old.  All aboard!   :driving:

Would take.

It's fun to think about, so I'm 100% sure it will never happen.

Curry is a visionary.  He took oscar Weber with all that baggage of never winning anything, he'd take this gamble while no one else would touch it.

Yeah. Something like that. Going from Bill to Petrino would drive tucks crazy.

The timing would actually work out pretty well.

Is Snyder done coaching when his contract ends?
Is there any top tier schools that will go after him?
Would curry or a first year AD screw us again?
Can you imagine how much he would love harley day?

After thinking about it for a while, if Snyder is ready to step down it could be an interesting storyline.  I'm hoping Weber was a decoy so Curry can make a home run hire.

I like the fact that Bobby isn't afraid to exploit AD employees, and recruit like a pro.
Insider info, back in the day a former 5* recruit we got because he thought he wanted to work hard, was offered by UCLA, "a Mercedes and any white woman I wanted".
That is the kind of dedication our AD employees need, also hire a bunch of really hot broads from California, solely as an offer to incoming recruits and Petrino.

Did the 5* end up working hard?

I voted "this is Kansas not R-Kansas".  Why you say, because we say it like that but they pronounance it Arr-Kin-saw.  We would never train Petrino to say it our way.  :shakesfist:

I would rather take Tressel, but Petrino would be alright.

Tressel will probably be out of coaching until the 2017 season because of the show-cause penalty.

I wonder at what age a coach becomes undesirable by the top schools? Petrino is 51 so if he came in and had a lot of success, he'd probably still be young enough to get a bigger job.  Here is a list of the average age of coaches by league last year:

55.5 Big 12

54 Conference USA

53.5 ACC

51 Big Ten

50.5 Mountain West

50 National median

50 Sun Belt

49.5 SEC

48.5 WAC

48 Pac-12

46.5 Big East

46 MAC

National Median age: 50

Without doing any research I'm going to guess that Bill and Mack really skew our average.

Tressel's show cause isn't a big deal like Pearl's, though. The team that hires him would just have to suspend him for the first few games of his first season, and he wouldn't be able to coach in the bowl game of the first season. After that, he can go about his business as if nothing ever happened. It would definitely be worth it.

We could be in the perfect sitch for that.  Bill retires, then we rehire him as one yr OC and remains as acting coach while Tressel is doing his suspension.

Yeah, that would be perfect, but Currie would never be willing to pay two head coach salaries at once like that.

One year down payment on future greatness.  Very worth it.

I agree completely. I just don't think Currie would ever go for not only hiring a disgraced coach, but hiring him before Bill even retires. We will end up with some coach who did things the right way but was fired for performance, just like basketball.

Almost every great coach has been fired at some point.

The best thing about hiring Tressel in my mind would be that he's still allowed to recruit. So when he's serving his suspension, he can go out and recruit kids while all of the other head coaches are out running practices and coaching games. It seems like he would be able to put together quite a class in his first season, especially if he were hired when Bill is still coaching and the team didn't really suffer because of the suspension.

You are suggesting something totally badass and foolproof so there is no way Currie does that.
