that will only last the first few games. by the fifth game you'll be as good as you ever were and it will be like kid in candy store type fun. unless the people you are playing against are younger and much better and then it will suck and make you mad.

What about when a few teams in the league take the games way too seriously? I mean, what in the world.

I play basketball all the time and played softball once this summer and was sore as hell, too. What a dumb rough ridin' game.

the league rules say something like, "play at 70% until you know you can do more.  remember:  you have to go to work the next day."  i'd have blown that off regardless, but it makes more sense to me now.

there is a rule that you can use pinch runners without subsituting players.  it's for the old guys with bad knees and such.  there were lots of pinch runners.

I played in a competitive league this summer.  Our team was much better suited for beer league and we struggled to win games (finished 5-7).  It was a lot of late 20's and younger ex-athlete types.  I was the only one on our team 30 or older.  A hard run from second to home followed by running out to the outfield and then making a running catch on a fly ball pretty much killed me.

I'm so aggro I go balls to the wall every play no matter what.  too many roids when I was younger lmao I might as well turn green and turn into the hulk and just destroy the other team by myself (unfair to my teammates) and then just pound brews after 10 running them in the 1st inning who know maybe I'll try it this summer eff it lol may the best (non)man win.  not lmao BRING IT!

i actually don't know if i suck at softball.  all i know is that i was horrible in baseball when i was 12 and the team i was on was pretty competitive and my shittiness drew the ire of my friends/coaches and i've been a little scarred (scared?) ever since

I've played in Spring/Summer/Fall leagues the past 3 years and we have 2 titles, no biggie, just an AWESOME TSHIRT.

We took this summer off because our star player moved and we got tired of playing hungover.

Side Question-

Is there anything worse than playing a doubleheader softball game at 3&4 pm during the summer when you are hungover?

I say no

same. we would have to make sure that we were in a league against bad teams though. playing against people worse than you is fun but playing people that are better is not.

It's the first game I've played but about 3rd of the season. There was a meeting regarding leading off prior to the game. I made fun of everybody there to their faces that the meeting was necessary. They do let you bring beer on the field though

here's the deal for me with taking things like softball seriously vs not taking them seriously. there has to be some kind of happy medium. taking them too serious is ridiculous but you at least have to try or else what's the point. basically if there is a team vs another team and someone is getting paid (ref, score keeper) then you're obligated to kind of try. if not then you aren't.

If you wear baseball pants, you're probably taking it too seriously. Batting gloves, maybe.

If you cuss out an ump over a call, you're taking it too seriously.

If you are genuinely angry at a teammate's performance, you're taking it too seriously.

If you do a quick tag on a guy even though he is obviously safe because that's what you were taught in little league, you're taking it too seriously.

Hustling out an infield single or diving for the occasional grounder, you're OK.

my favorite guy from monday night was about 5'6" and ripped like some thick little body builder.  he thought he was there to do one thing and one thing alone:  hit home runs.  you could tell because of the way he sort of pouted and made a big production out of what he did wrong after an at bat in which he failed to do so.  like, shaking his head in disgust and muttering to himself stuff like, "drop the shoulder."  i don't know if he took the game too seriously, but he did take his home run hitting very seriously.

Same

same. we would have to make sure that we were in a league against bad teams though. playing against people worse than you is fun but playing people that are better is not.

i wear a single batting glove because i don't want the bat to slip out of my hands and hit someone.  i wear it with basketball shorts, random 10k race t-shirt, football cleats, and no hat.

if you combined tball, baseball and softball i have probably played somewhere between 500 and a 1,000 games and have never worn and batting glove and have never had a bat fly out of my hand.

happened to me twice in less than 10 games.  that's an embarrassing rate.  it needed to be addressed.  congrats on taking your swing so seriously, though, bro.

batting gloves are fine, imo.

lol. only a person that wears them would say this.

I don't take it seriously normally but one time I was catcher and this dick kept throwing the bat back at me and the ump wouldnt do crap about it and I almost fought the dick just like a badger or pitbull.
If you would have fought him like you were a pitbull, how would you have done that? I would like to know what strategy you, as a pitbull, would employ if you were fighting a human with a bat.

I would fight him like an angry young professional AGAINST a badger or pitbull. The strategy I would employ follows the precedent set by King Kong V. T-Rex.  Also I would use the same strategy if I were a badger fighting a guy with a bat. I'm now sure what I would do if I were a pitbull fighting a guy with a bat as they haven't hands or powerful claws.

chum- honest question... are you putting both hands on the bat when you swing it? bats really shouldn't fly like that if you're using both hands.

sometimes i let go with one hand.  sometimes i don't.  i'm sure i have an awful swing, but if course i don't take it seriously enough to know.  i can (or could) hit home runs.

Wearing baseball pants is a definite try hard move. My team has no uniforms, but does have the occasional theme night (hawaiian night, trailer park, etc.) and we focus more on drinking and less on fielding/hitting. Maybe this is why we can't break .500?

Scored the winning run in my co-ed game tonight in the last inning.

This girl who was playing right field for the other team had to leave right at 8, so the other team pulled this girl out of the stand to go "stand in right field and hope no one hits the ball there." She was wearing flip flops so I just kind lobed it out there and ran to second. Then someone drove me in two batters later and the game was over.

There was a guy on the other team wearing baseball pants and batting gloves. He took a walk his first time up after taking a strike... What a douche. If its a strike, swing at the ball. Right??

I was walking up to the plate, doing my standard "Calling my shot" point to center.  The pitcher laughed and asked "where do you want it?" i said "absurdly high."

I harassed the crap out of anyone who took a pitch that was anywhere close (my own team included). Definitely led the team in heckles from the outfield.
