I do not think many of you understand what they are saying with this law just passed. In many case the 'rules' are now being 'bent' to accommodate other 'groups' in an effort to not 'offend' anyone or be labeled racist or whatever.
And it has gotten out of control in this country! This is OUR COUNTRY, USA, AMERICA. This is NOT the middle east. This is NOT Mexico. This is NOT China. This IS the United States of America! And in THIS country sharia law and customs should NOT be taken into consideration when rules and laws are applied.
For example, women do not wear burkas in the middle east because of religious beliefs. They wear them because it is SHARIA LAW! Yet right here in the U.S.A. when I walk into a court room, for example, I am expected to remove my hat or cover yet they are not! Why? They use the claim of sharia law to state they are immune to the same rules, laws and regulations that require me to show respect to our country, our laws, our courts and our constitution.. Immediately some of you start screaming out about bigotry or freedom of religion or some other BULL... when in reality you do not know what you are talking about because as I said, wearing a burka is NOT from the religion rather it is from sharia law.
Before you start condemning your own country and spouting off, why don't you witness, experience and get up off your rear and see for yourself what is going on right under your noses! Many of you who have written posts here make me sick. If you do not like your country and OUR way of life, then move elsewhere.
I have NO problem at all with middle eastern people nor with the religion of Islam. I DO have a major issue with sharia laws AND with attempt to FORCE change to OUR laws, OUR way of life and OUR rules in the name of sharia law... And THAT is what these laws are talking about. READ before you speak. Get up off your ass and find out before opening said mouth and inserting said foot.
For me personally, I am tired of walking down the isle of a hardware store trying to find an item only to come across what I am looking for and have ALL of the packages turned outward toward me written in SPANISH and not English. Turn it around and you can find English but every package as it sits on the shelf has the Spanish language turned outward. Or how about being able to become a U.S. citizen without even learning OUR language?
This is AMERICA. If you want to live here, I am all for it. But do so by OUR CULTURE, OUR LAWS, OUR LANGUAGE, OUR CONSTITUTION, and LEGALLY --- not the country you happen to have come from. If that is what you want, then STAY THERE.

this thread inspired me to go over and check out the world forum on gpc. hadn't been there in literally years. i'm not even going to joke about it... there's some disturbing stuff. i'm legitimately shocked that there are so many people that are so backwards.

Yeah, I think those people paint a pretty good picture of your typical Kansan's political views.

FSD's real name is Todd Butson?

It'll be interesting to see what happens when our generation takes over politics. Do you become less accepting as you get older, or is it a generational difference?
-
Probably a little bit of both, but what we'll have when all the tmcats of the world finally die out will still be rough ridin' paradise compared to the Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) crap we have to deal with now.
-
Good grief. The only reason people fret about Sharia Law is because of the post 9/11 scare and intimidation done by the Bush admin. Some people really ate that crap up...
-
the old people right now are the hippies. free-love, peace, eff the man, all that.
i think you just change when you get old.

Nah. Those people are like 65-70. It's the really really old fuckers, the ones who vote en masse, who are the worst.

definitely both.

Were these 2 separate pieces of legislation?

Yes they were. This Kansas legislative session has had a ton of stuff on the plate. Muslims, gays, and gerrymandering like it's nobody's business.
-
This is an odd thread, considering the legislature ended its session a few weeks ago.

The bill now heads to the state Senate for consideration. Gov. Sam Brownback (R) told HuffPost in February that he would sign the bill, which he said he had not read.

The courts are not using Sharia Law to determine the outcomes of cases. They would if the US or the State of Kansas were to adopt Sharia Law, but then Sharia Law would no longer be a foreign law and this bill would be worthless. It's just a waste of time and taxpayer money for the legislature to actually pass this bill.

You obvs didn't read the example of how some muslim lady could refuse to remove her head scarf while in court.

I agree that it's wasteful political grandstanding, but at least theoretically it's not totally worthless/without effect. For example, consider the case/use of persuasive authority or precedent:
"Persuasive precedent (also persuasive authority) is precedent or other legal writing that is not binding precedent but that is useful or relevant and that may guide the judge in making the decision in a current case is known as persuasive precedent (or persuasive authority or advisory precedent). Persuasive precedent includes cases decided by lower courts, by peer or higher courts from other geographic jurisdictions, cases made in other parallel systems (for example, military courts, administrative courts, indigenous/tribal courts, state courts versus federal courts in the United States), statements made in dicta, treatises or academic law reviews, and in some exceptional circumstances, cases of other nations, treaties, world judicial bodies, etc. In a case of first impression, courts often rely on persuasive precedent from courts in other jurisdictions that have previously dealt with similar issues. Persuasive precedent may become binding through its adoption by a higher court."
Very unlikely, but a Kansas state court could in theory refer to Sharia law and adopt it in a case of first impression. Thus making it Kansas case law without any say by the legislature or Governor; their fear.

they could wait till sharia made her way into the law and pass a statute overturning it just as easily and without condoning proactive islamaphobia.

Reactionary bigotry doesn't make nearly the media splash, and it's more work because it's piecemeal. Plus, what if Kansans get a taste for Muslimy-type justice? Then it's too late. It's like legal herpes. Once you've caught it, you can only suppress the outbreaks, you can't cure it. Profilactic Islmaphobia it is then. These guys know what they're doing.
