that it makes me feel a little warm and fuzzy inside to see this picture. Having spent a lot of time in that building, even when it was still used for basketball.

I've always wondered if times and money and mindsets had been a little different how things would have turned out.
If you've ever been to Duke, you would note some similarities between the placement and setting of Cameron Indoor and Wallace Wade Stadium, to the placement of Ahearn and Old Memorial Stadium.
Move everything not athletic related out of Ahearn with athletics occupying all those offices in the Annex/Ahearn Gym, renovate the Fieldhouse, upgrade the practice courts. Tear out the pool and move it out to the Rec Complex and turn that facility into a Volleyball Arena. Enclose Memorial Stadium renovate and expand, and have the whole section between College Heights and Anderson-Sunset and Denison owned by K-State athletics with Football Facility, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Baseball Field located in that.
GTFOOMF with "Parking" there would be all kinds of creative ways to handle that, and don't even bring up tailgating, the Ville is 3 blocks away.
-
I can't even imagine how amazing it would be to 'pak in Aggieville and only have to walk 3 blocks for the game.
-
Damnit Dax, now I'm dreaming about all the side benefits of such a complex. Aggieville would extend to Sunset as a true mixed-use business/residential district with several multi-story buildings.
As an added bonus, the locals wouldn't be scared of below grade parking and "gullywashers".
-
currie! :shakesfist:

Yeah, I can't help but think this is his fault. I bet he wants there to be another dorm so we don't have to put all those freshman in the Holiday Inn. :bang:

Do not eff up this thread.

For a long time I was always told the reason why nothing more could be done to Memorial Stadium was the dreaded "gullywasher".
I guess bigger drainage pipes and systems weren't allowed.

My god dax, how rough ridin' old are you?

Get off my lawn!

There's like no seats in that place.

There's like no seats in that place.
That's because they don't have the lower level bleachers set up.
Moving volleyball out of there would have been important to my incredible plans.
-
lol, why don't they turn the court the right direction?

Piss off Ell, I'm not one of those "I hate Bramlage, we should have never left Ahearn" types.
-

It's rough ridin' amazing everyone didn't just pack up and leave after that gullywasher in 53.
-
Darn GullyWashers!!
-
Why would we want to play in a place that holds 8000 people max.
-
currie! :shakesfist:
While this is a fine idea it would cost too much to renovate Ahearn to suitable needs for Ahearn to be up to code for the NCAA for a Division I basketball game. Though this is a great idea.
Thanks but no thanks,
John Currie.
LETS GET HIM!!
-
People who get nostalgic about Ahearn forget that there were some legitimately rough ridin' terrible seats in the lower corners that resulted from the bizarre dimensions of that building.
-
What part of "renovate the Fieldhouse" confuses some of you people?

Still not to late to burn Bramlage to the ground.

Burning Bramlage to the ground would still pretty much leave all the seats intact, go for it.

Bobby Knight would love it. I can already hear him gushing over how much taller Hernandez looks in Ahearn.
-
where the hell would I workout at bad person! just kidding I love ahearn probably my favorite place on campus
How do I go about doing this at Ahearn?
-
Move basketball to Ahearn,
get hockey team,
play hockey in Bramlage
-
Where will people lineup to get nut stompings :runaway:
-
My grandfather went to thousands of games at ahearn and told me it sucked and smelled like ass and he hated its guts. Meanwhile, the OOD is the best venue on the north American continent.
-
Hey you know what would be great? Bumping my head on rafters and smelling pee all the time and having 1 bathroom for all 8,000 people you can fit in there.
:flush:
-
Also it's an awful atmosphere and we lose our home court advantage and all the concessions have aids.
-
Ahearnias! :runaway:
-
Bramlage was a huge mistake
-

Bramlage was a huge mistake
crossfit is a lot of fun FWIW.

Ahearn was a dump . . . and Bramlage is nothing close to what was originally proposed, well, SOLD to the K-State constituency. It was supposed to be round, it was supposed to be cut smooth limestone on the outside, it was supposed to have 2 levels, it was supposed to hold 16,000 people.
It was such a clusterf_ck of a project they hadn't even thought through running power into the facility, and they didn't do proper soil sampling prior to the start of construction and so they had to cut out a bunch of stuff in order to put in concrete supports below the seating bowl to keep it from sinking.
-
thank god it doesn't hold 16000.
-
query for the ITK crowd- thoughts on the cats playing at MHS (1 game per season vs KU)?

I think the muni gym at city hall would be more historic.

If we are going to do that we should move Farmageddon to the "mall in the milo field."
Also, I won the inaugural Wooly Father/Son bball camp 2v2 championship. could have won the 4v4, but we decided to step down and give another combo a shot. All of that in Ahearn!

no that gym sucks. i'm talking about the main gym at mhs where all the indians' banners hang. those wood floors are like trampolines.
-
see you at 10 @ ahearn fellas!! :excited:
-
For all the tucks who look at this picture and get all nostalgic and want us to move back and junk, just think about how beautiful it will look when we import Briggs tarps to the old Ahearn and put Briggs ads all over the court.
