this is going to be great. everybody go to the la hacienda in your town (if you have one) and eat it this week. report back and also take a pic of the menu and post so we can try to pick a best la hacienda. i can't imagine one is better than the one in mhk but who knows maybe we stumble onto something.

oh boy. just got back from LH where i ordered something they call the "big breakfast"
it's pretty much your standard fare - pancakes, some eggs, a hashbrown, a biscuit, a sausage. a++!

It's called Panchos
O man, a 7 day panchos challege is not even on the same level as the chipolte challenge. Its like comparing the running of the bulls to to a 4th of july parade.
-
panchos is pretty terrible. but i do know some people who like to eat it when they're boozed up.
if you want really quality mexican food in kc, pm me for deets and i'll hook you up with some tribal knowledge that will blow your mind, son.
-
I havent had panchos in about 2 years, my body thanks me every day.
On a side note the last time i went to the location on 87th and 35 the entire restaurant smelled like a dirty bathroom.

Bad news:
There is no wichita la hacienda on rock road.
Good news:
It's a taco trailer that I drive by almost every day.

Bad news:
It does not appear they sell boots and assorted mexican shop items.
Good news:
It's in the nomar district so there's about 20 nearby stores that do.

 yeah. that's umm, like, that's kind of what i was getting at dumbass. i remember having some el pollo rey when i was in austin several years ago so it's kind of funny for me when they opened one up in kansas city and all the kansas city hayseed dumbasses that fawn all over it and act like they discovered something unique or interesting. it's just pretty funny for me to watch and listen to them talk about that chicken is all. funny dumbass hayseeds thinking they got something good or neat when it's basically the austin version of popeyes. oh well.

he's a frontrunner for sure but unless one of the other judges has verified his local la hacienda, he might be on the outside looking in come closing ceremonies. he needs picture verification and picture of the menu to officially be included and i personally haven't seen either yet. he could be getting all that food from a jose peppers for all i know.

i can't really speak for the judges but i don't think this is gonna fly in this challenge - it's clearly for la hacienda. what are the demographics like in your area? depending on this, it sounds like la hacienda mexican food may be under-served in your market
prolly won't help you for this year's challenge though

oh man, they sell real charcoal. have you tried it? it's so authentic, it's like they took it from a real charcoal factory.
-

nope. just have a gas grill. do they sell charcoal at your la hacienda too?

Take a picture of it with the charcoal sack in the background so we know it's not Kingsford or some other non authentic 'rcoal.
-
i use it all the time, tastes like pure charcoal, no additives. none. no fillers either, which is hard to find and lends credence to their claim of authenticity.
-
question- if i did buy a charcoal grill and use this charcoal, would i be able to recreate the food that i had last night at la hacienda (located in the village plaza shopping center on west anderson avenue in manhattan ks)? because i would consider doing this if the answer is yes.

Are you authentic mexican? If not, you probably cannot "recreate" anything from la hacienda.

i might be. there is an ongoing family debate wheras i'm known 7/8 irish and unknow 1/8 something else. current money has it being italian but there is a faction that believes both mexican and some form of asian are distinct possibilities. go ahead and buy it and cross fingers?

i'd just ask the fine folks at la hacienda (mhk one). maybe also ask them on tips about running a taqueria :dunno:

Seems like the only legitimate way to find out if you are actually mexican. I'd say buy a grill and if you can cook an authentic taco, start collecting money from la familia.

Although, I will say, this challenge is starting to look a little bit rigged :dunno:.
"Oh crap, you guys, I totally didn't know I was authentic mexican before I won the challenge!"- Rick Daris
It all makes sense now. The slandering of Kat Kid's Chipotle Challenge to start his own challenge that he would surely win. Mods, please change the name of this thread to "8man's Inagural La Hacienda Challenge Authentic Mexican Rick Daris 7 Day La Hacienda Rigged Challenge" TIA

:dubious: there are more than 1/8 authentic Mexicans on this board, and I don't see them winning the challenge

Denied. Contest isn't rigged. rd's only advantages are that he enjoys well made, authentic mexican food, he never takes the time to capitalize the first letter of his sentences, and he lives pretty close to La Hacienda. Next?

Probably because they know it isn't ethical or even legal for them to enter the contest. Hey, guys you know who is probably winning the crap out of this contest? The cooks at La Hacienda. Do you see them posting about their accomplishments? No. Because it's not a challenge for them.

guys, guys, guys....there is no sole "winner" of this challenge. anybody and everybody that competes in the challenge is a winner. that's what makes it so great. and besides, who's to say that this is even an actual challenge? me? you? god? heinballz? the public school system? mitt romney? guys look... i know la hacienda brings out a lot of emotions in all of us but keep in mind this is about friends and friendship and amazing mexican food. let's not lose site of the forrest even though we're standing in the middle of a bunch of onion and cilantro draped trees, ok?

To clarify, there is no single winner, but it is a challenge. Everyone who completes the challenge will be a winner.
-
sounds like a sorry excuse for a challenge if there isn't a winner. what kind of challenge has no winner?

maybe you missed that part where 8man just said that anyone who finishes is a winner or the part before that part where i said that anybody who competes is a winner. i suppose that a strong argument could be made that society as a whole is a winner just because the fact that the challenge itself actually exists. so to me it seems like this challege is actually quite the opposite of a challenge that "has no winner".

more pics to come later along with my personal critique of this la hacienda restaurant!

Confirm that it is not a chain related to the manhattan la hacienda and is merely the result of convergent evolution.
-
man i won't soon my first trip to the wamego LH. tortillas, tacos, and tequila. 'nuff said, the rest is r-rated.
-
I would totally watch a travel show with clams and daris as wander the world eating new foods and trying new customs. Rick would be the earnest one, giving everything a fair shot (I can imagine a great scene where rick eats a fermented snake egg or something and pretends to like it so the 89 yr old chinese lady who offered her home and food to them is not offended and then clams says "hey chinese lady get that rotten egg out of my rough ridin' face" (cut shot to producer looking shocked), and pissclams being the irascible grouch who hates everything different, but at the end comes around and is seen smiling and having a good time (at the end of the rural china episode he hugs the old chinese lady and tears up a bit when she says goodbye in broken english). I think they should ride around in a motorcycle with a side car.

yeah they are not similar in any way. the wamego hacienda is basically your typical mexican restaurant that every town has. nothing interesting or different. the two aren't related.

la hacienda non restaurant item of the day. this thing below. looks like a great kids candy. tastes like a horrible kids candy invented by a person that likes tricking other persons.

I have been out of town and not near any la haciendas for a few days so I wasn't able to complete the challenge, but I appreciate the crap out if daris' effort.

if by second best you mean less popular and without sour cream then yeah, you're probably right. oh well.

Seems like this would be really easy if you have a la hacienda in your town.
-
i'd rather punch myself in the face for 7 days in a row.

only if it's a la hacienda with great food. fortunately for us mhkers, la hacienda week is like a vacation on the beach with people fanning you and bringing you unlimited beverages of your choice that are wrapped in hundred dollar bills.

We have La Hacienda Ranch down here. Is that the same thing?

no thats actually not what i meant. i meant second best to the 'potle challenge and that was being polite because if there were any other challenges on this blog they would instantly jump this stupid challenge that no one participates in. really second place is there for the taking...
here are some ideas of challenges that would be better than this one:
-kelly stewart creeps's inaugural oklahoma joes emawmeister 7 day emawmeister challenge
-kim carnes' inaugural five guys ghost of stan parrish 7 day ghost of stan parrish challenge
-sabination's inaugural panera bread emawblast 7 day panera bread emawblast challenge
just spit balling here. but hey congrats on the 8milhrd7dlhc becoming the 5th best eating challenge on this board. before no time joey chestnut will be calling to participate! yum yum

bubs,
what do you think about that burger stand place in t-town and do you go there much? seemed pretty great from what i saw a few weeks ago.

last i checked there's a la hacienda in most every town (it's like pace salsa).

Coming back in July (so everyone can participate) to a La Hacienda near you!
