Maybe KU hiring Weis was a super-secret plot to bankrupt ND and force them right into the Big 12.

I'm probably wrong, but I assumed Weis' contract expectations were going to be similar to previous contracts.

And KU just hired a guy that Notre Dame paid $19m to go away as their head coach.

Unbelievable coming from a fan of a school that owed Ron Prince like $6 million after he was fired.  And Weis' contract isn't even close to $19 million.  More like 5 years, $12 million with buyout clauses.

I don't know if KU is still paying Mangino.  It has been three years now, and we're rich.  LOL at a K-State fan bagging on KU's law school when K-State is too poor of a school to have one.  Also, Bill James, the creator of sabermetrics and the guy who Moneyball was loosely based on, graduated with an economics degree from KU.  It's a very good program.

The contract for newly named Kansas University football coach Charlie Weis has been finalized, and, like the one drawn up for former KU coach Turner Gill in 2009, it does not include a buyout for early termination.

Weis, who has signed on for 5 years, will make $2.5 million per year plus incentives. That’s $12.5 million, guaranteed, whether he coaches one game, one year or all five seasons. The only way Weis would be owed less would be if he were fired for cause.

Bill Self wouldn't have even needed to pat his belly or even suggest the free room.  It would have just been given to him.

Maybe the $10G covers room and board and they are desperately concerned about the "board" part of that agreement.

From Wikipedia:
The cult chant was first adopted by the university's science club in 1886. Chemistry professor E.H.S. Bailey and his colleagues were returning by train to Lawrence after a conference. During their travel, they discussed a need of a rousing yell. They came up with "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, Go KU"[1], repeated three times, which later became "Rock Chalk Jayhawk, KU".
By 1889, "Rock Chalk"—a transposition of chalk rock, a type of limestone, that exists in Kansas, but only in the Cretaceous-age bedrocks of central and western parts of the state (more than 150 miles west of Lawrence)

The Chant

KU's world famous Rock Chalk Chant evolved from a cheer that a chemistry professor, E.H.S. Bailey, created for the KU science club in 1886.

Bailey's version was "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, KU" repeated three times. The rahs were later replaced by "Rock Chalk," a transposition of chalk rock, the name for the limestone outcropping found on Mount Oread, site of the Lawrence campus.

The cheer became known worldwide. Teddy Roosevelt pronounced it the greatest college chant he'd ever heard. Legend has it that troops used the chant when fighting in the Philippines in 1899, in the Boxer Rebellion in China, and in World War II. At the Olympic games in 1920, the King of Belgium asked for a typical American college yell. The assembled athletes agreed on KU's Rock Chalk and rendered it for His Majesty.

I mean, JFC, is there not a single thing anymore that isn't questioned and made into some pissing contest by Butthurt State fans?

Lawrence friend relayed a recent Weis story involving his living situation.

....frontbutt (fb) told Z he needed a place to live, so they set up a master suite at 10 grand/month ......Z agreed to pay the first 3 months, then Charlie could take it from there

....halfway into the 3rd month, fb, called the owners into his office and told them his wasn't to big on this 10 thousand dollar a month deal...........they thought maybe there was something he didn't like about the suite or whatever......so they offered to knock it down to 8

.......he sat back in his chair, slapped his belly, leaned forward and said "boys, i'm thinking about payin' nothin!........zero"

.......the owners exchanged looks and replied to fb by telling him that he can pay his rent on the 1st or find another place to live.....no hard feelings

true story

OMG, that's amazing if it's true.
Yes, slapping his belly and calling them boys makes this a potential top 10 goEMAW story.
the weiss oread hotel update (emaw elite readers only)

the hotel meeting was with the two owners : Tim Fritzel and Todd Sutherland

when weiss said "boys, i'm thinkin about doin this deal for zero"........he made a zero with his right hand, after slapping his belly :)

the story has now circulated through the downtown district business owners and patrons..........not a good sign when he is calling out two of the largest KU donors before coaching a single game

The Oread is a budget hotel located in the city of Lawrence, Kansas, and it has 4 floors. The nearest airport is Lawrence Municipal Airport (Airport Code: LWC), a distance of about 3.8 miles from the hotel. This hotel has a total of 99 guest rooms.

There are several family restaurants close to the hotel, including Montana Mike's Steakhouse, Fifis Restaurant and Pool Room Bar & Billiards.

I hate to be the one that breaks this to you but "money ball" as a theory didn't work.  But it did make a decent movie.

The comments are great.

We also played KSU great right up until 30 seconds left in the first half when we blew coverage and let them score from 196 yards out.

1st Quarter
Kansas State Touchdown - 7-yard run by Collin Klein.   (Anthony Cantele extra point is good). 4:16 Time Remaining.
2nd Quarter
Kansas State Touchdown - 6-yard run by Collin Klein.   (Anthony Cantele extra point is good). 14:55 Time Remaining.
Kansas State Touchdown - 5-yard run by John Hubert.   (Anthony Cantele extra point is good). 9:31 Time Remaining.
Kansas Touchdown - 2-yard run by James Sims.   (Alex Mueller extra point is good). 5:01 Time Remaining.
Kansas State Touchdown - 2-yard run by Collin Klein.   (Anthony Cantele extra point is good). 2:10 Time Remaining.
Kansas Touchdown - 13-yard pass from Jordan Webb to D.J. Beshears.   (Alex Mueller extra point is good). 0:14 Time Remaining.
Kansas State Field Goal - 26-yarder by Anthony Cantele.  0:00 Time Remaining.

LOL, they were the ones who scored with :14 remaining.

They were only down by 28 before KSU took advantage of that one blown coverage for a 196 yard pass and then kicked a field goal, though. That field goal put the game out of reach.

nope.......banning people is bush league, expect for the most extreme circumstances, imo.........the elite way is to use sarcasm and/or beat them to a bloody pulp with facts/stats/intelligence...........hell, they didn't even bother to check the story first (which was true).........it is funny because they trash Gill relentlessly, but don't want to hear a bad word about front butt (true or false)..........the ability to be self critical about your team and all things related is what make this site elite and that site crap........it's like i want to fix them or something  :dunno:

So Weis is taking most of July off.  Do you think Snyder is taking July off?  Also said the depth chart was going to change from the post spring depth chart.  Interesting to me that the newcomers are going to walk right into spots without so much as a practice.   Weis is an interesting dude he seems pretty darn sure of himself it will be fun to watch this.

He better not take too much time off.  KU ranked 90th, KSU ranked 37th.  Maybe this will help explain the 10-2, 2-10 mystery FB can't figure out.

i have 2 true story guys.
1. one of my closest friends (a beaker  :barf:) went to go hear Front Butt speak here in Garden at the country club, and when they shook hands, friend said he had to go to the bathroom and wash his hands there was so much sweat on Front butts fat little sausage hands.
Friend said he tehn nearly vomited, and is now thinking about transferring to ksu.
2. Country club owners grand daughter went to meet front butt and front butt gave her a big hearty laugh and a smile, and said 6 year old girl ran away crying.
you do the math guys. Front butt is scaring people away from UK as we speak.
