His Notre Dame buyout reportedly reaching $19 million.
Where is KU gonna find that kind of money in 3 years
-
The endowment.
-
My dream job would be to get rich by getting fired.

why does ku have to worry about what notre dame pays?
-
Maybe KU hiring Weis was a super-secret plot to bankrupt ND and force them right into the Big 12.

I'm probably wrong, but I assumed Weis' contract expectations were going to be similar to previous contracts.
And KU just hired a guy that Notre Dame paid $19m to go away as their head coach.
-
Somebody needs to dig up those Weis/ku contract provisions.
-
Unbelievable coming from a fan of a school that owed Ron Prince like $6 million after he was fired. And Weis' contract isn't even close to $19 million. More like 5 years, $12 million with buyout clauses.
:flush:
-
Lawrence friend relayed a recent Weis story involving his living situation.
....frontbutt (fb) told Z he needed a place to live, so they set up a master suite at 10 grand/month ......Z agreed to pay the first 3 months, then Charlie could take it from there
....halfway into the 3rd month, fb, called the owners into his office and told them his wasn't to big on this 10 thousand dollar a month deal...........they thought maybe there was something he didn't like about the suite or whatever......so they offered to knock it down to 8
.......he sat back in his chair, slapped his belly, leaned forward and said "boys, i'm thinking about payin' nothin!........zero"
.......the owners exchanged looks and replied to fb by telling him that he can pay his rent on the 1st or find another place to live.....no hard feelings

Your school is paying Mangino, Gill, and Weis right now. All three have been let go from their last job. :flush: What a dipshit university.
-
Pretty sure I remember it being announced that there wasn't a buyout clause and that his 5 yrs is guaranteed unless he retires. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure this is what they announced.

who cares
ku isn't going to fire weis

You are wrong. If Weis leaves for the NFL, he would actually owe KU money.

good grief, sounds like Big Pun is getting paid for doing nothing. what incentive does he have to actually accomplish something?
pro tip answer- none. PERIOD.

Beems, thoughts on paying 3 coach's right now? KU's econ class should not be accredited.

KU's econ class should not be accredited.
It isn't. Like their dog crap law school

trust funds

I don't know if KU is still paying Mangino. It has been three years now, and we're rich. LOL at a K-State fan bagging on KU's law school when K-State is too poor of a school to have one. Also, Bill James, the creator of sabermetrics and the guy who Moneyball was loosely based on, graduated with an economics degree from KU. It's a very good program.

Sorry. Ku's law school is dog crap. It just is. KSU not having one doesn't make ku's better.
-
That's hilarious coming from a guy who got a law degree from the worst school in the city of Boston. KU's law school is top 100, which isn't bad.

Kstates Ag Programs are top 5, which is better than "not bad"
-
Beems, I know you're never the sharpest tack in the box. But Kansas Regents schools just don't get to wake up one day and decide they're going to have a particular field of study. It never has been that way, and never will be that way.

Ku's law school is fine, for what it is: a cheap, in-state law option for Kansas residents.

Now back to the topic at hand . . . anybody dig up that Weis contract yet?

The contract for newly named Kansas University football coach Charlie Weis has been finalized, and, like the one drawn up for former KU coach Turner Gill in 2009, it does not include a buyout for early termination.
Weis, who has signed on for 5 years, will make $2.5 million per year plus incentives. That’s $12.5 million, guaranteed, whether he coaches one game, one year or all five seasons. The only way Weis would be owed less would be if he were fired for cause.

Nope. Chuck is retiring in two or three years. He all but said so in one of his first interviews. It's why his wife didn't move with him. This is temp and only to get a little more nest egg saved up. Then, it's back to FL for retirement.

Stress is tough on a person who is already putting so much physical stress on themselves. I hope Charlie is in this for a retirement. Otherwise one or two hard seasons will be the end of him.

Your coach will die some day you stupid hayseed tech grapes.

I think FB thought he was the King of Lawrence with his new position. The owners of the Oread just hit him with the cold hard reality that he isn't even a prince. Hopefully this dose of reality will convince him that he needs to go out and win some football games.

Bill Self wouldn't have even needed to pat his belly or even suggest the free room. It would have just been given to him.
Maybe the $10G covers room and board and they are desperately concerned about the "board" part of that agreement.

A lot of buildings on KU's campus are in limestone. It's where the rock chalk chant was derived from.
-
From Wikipedia:
The cult chant was first adopted by the university's science club in 1886. Chemistry professor E.H.S. Bailey and his colleagues were returning by train to Lawrence after a conference. During their travel, they discussed a need of a rousing yell. They came up with "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, Go KU"[1], repeated three times, which later became "Rock Chalk Jayhawk, KU".
By 1889, "Rock Chalk"—a transposition of chalk rock, a type of limestone, that exists in Kansas, but only in the Cretaceous-age bedrocks of central and western parts of the state (more than 150 miles west of Lawrence)

What's your point? That the limestone that the buildings are made out of came from rock that was 150 miles west of Lawrence? Ground breaking stuff.

http://www.ku.edu/about/traditions/ (http://www.ku.edu/about/traditions/)
The Chant
KU's world famous Rock Chalk Chant evolved from a cheer that a chemistry professor, E.H.S. Bailey, created for the KU science club in 1886.
Bailey's version was "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, KU" repeated three times. The rahs were later replaced by "Rock Chalk," a transposition of chalk rock, the name for the limestone outcropping found on Mount Oread, site of the Lawrence campus.
The cheer became known worldwide. Teddy Roosevelt pronounced it the greatest college chant he'd ever heard. Legend has it that troops used the chant when fighting in the Philippines in 1899, in the Boxer Rebellion in China, and in World War II. At the Olympic games in 1920, the King of Belgium asked for a typical American college yell. The assembled athletes agreed on KU's Rock Chalk and rendered it for His Majesty.
I mean, JFC, is there not a single thing anymore that isn't questioned and made into some pissing contest by Butthurt State fans?

At the Olympic games in 1920, the King of Belgium asked for a typical American college yell. The assembled athletes agreed on KU's Rock Chalk and rendered it for His Majesty.
I mean, JFC, is there not a single thing anymore that isn't questioned and made into some pissing contest by Butthurt State fans?
You do realize you're part of this problem, right?

i think it's pretty awesome of weiss to do this.
it doesn't make me think any better of him as a coach, i don't think he'll succeed in lawrentucky, but smushing his landlord is pretty funny.

Lawrence friend relayed a recent Weis story involving his living situation.
....frontbutt (fb) told Z he needed a place to live, so they set up a master suite at 10 grand/month ......Z agreed to pay the first 3 months, then Charlie could take it from there
....halfway into the 3rd month, fb, called the owners into his office and told them his wasn't to big on this 10 thousand dollar a month deal...........they thought maybe there was something he didn't like about the suite or whatever......so they offered to knock it down to 8
.......he sat back in his chair, slapped his belly, leaned forward and said "boys, i'm thinking about payin' nothin!........zero"
.......the owners exchanged looks and replied to fb by telling him that he can pay his rent on the 1st or find another place to live.....no hard feelings
true story
beaut
OMG, that's amazing if it's true.
Yes, slapping his belly and calling them boys makes this a potential top 10 goEMAW story.
the weiss oread hotel update (emaw elite readers only)
the hotel meeting was with the two owners : Tim Fritzel and Todd Sutherland
when weiss said "boys, i'm thinkin about doin this deal for zero"........he made a zero with his right hand, after slapping his belly :)
the story has now circulated through the downtown district business owners and patrons..........not a good sign when he is calling out two of the largest KU donors before coaching a single game
enjoy and your welcome :)

:surprised:
The Oread is a budget hotel located in the city of Lawrence, Kansas, and it has 4 floors. The nearest airport is Lawrence Municipal Airport (Airport Code: LWC), a distance of about 3.8 miles from the hotel. This hotel has a total of 99 guest rooms.
There are several family restaurants close to the hotel, including Montana Mike's Steakhouse, Fifis Restaurant and Pool Room Bar & Billiards.

I hate to be the one that breaks this to you but "money ball" as a theory didn't work. But it did make a decent movie.

diabetes
It's the silent killer.
-
The whole bed thing was just for show.
Charlie's blinging on out of there by 6'oclock at the latest.
-
It must take an impressive inflatable mattress to keep Weis supported for an entire evening...
-
More to the point, Weis said he was looking forward to working with the guys who had stuck around — guys who saw their head coach aspire to change KU’s football culture and then rolled up their sleeves and did the heavy lifting for of him.
-
Laughing at little brothers short falls just never gets old.
-
The Oread guys must have changed the security code for his elevator key card during rent negotiations.
-
So Weis is taking most of July off. Do you think Snyder is taking July off? Also said the depth chart was going to change from the post spring depth chart. Interesting to me that the newcomers are going to walk right into spots without so much as a practice. Weis is an interesting dude he seems pretty darn sure of himself it will be fun to watch this.

They were only down by 28 before KSU took advantage of that one blown coverage for a 196 yard pass and then kicked a field goal, though. That field goal put the game out of reach.

nope.......banning people is bush league, expect for the most extreme circumstances, imo.........the elite way is to use sarcasm and/or beat them to a bloody pulp with facts/stats/intelligence...........hell, they didn't even bother to check the story first (which was true).........it is funny because they trash Gill relentlessly, but don't want to hear a bad word about front butt (true or false)..........the ability to be self critical about your team and all things related is what make this site elite and that site crap........it's like i want to fix them or something :dunno:

i have 2 true story guys.
1. one of my closest friends (a beaker :barf:) went to go hear Front Butt speak here in Garden at the country club, and when they shook hands, friend said he had to go to the bathroom and wash his hands there was so much sweat on Front butts fat little sausage hands.
Friend said he tehn nearly vomited, and is now thinking about transferring to ksu.
2. Country club owners grand daughter went to meet front butt and front butt gave her a big hearty laugh and a smile, and said 6 year old girl ran away crying.
you do the math guys. Front butt is scaring people away from UK as we speak.
