Title: 8th Grade Graduation
Post by: Brock Landers on May 09, 2012, 03:35:10 PM
What the eff is up with this?  So, little Brockina Landers, whom I of course love and adore dearly, is "graduating" from 8th grade this year and her school as per usual is having some long elaborate ceremony complete with caps and gowns.  Even worse, many parents are throwing even more long and elaborate and probably expensive graduation parties that are entering Blingiest Sweet 16 territory.  Of course her terrible human being of a mother is throwing one of these stupid parties and has been sending me updates of stuff that I will need to do/contribute.  I think I will buy all the kids a really fancy blue ribbon, or maybe even some kind of trophy and of course the trophies will all be the same size because this is nothing more than a god damn participation event.

Guess what, kids:  Passing 8th grade doesn't get you crap in my book.  You haven't graduated from jack crap yet.  It is not something to be celebrated or treated like some big accomplishment.  This is one of many little things that are slowly but surely killing America.

Do you know what my school did when we graduated.....er, passed 8th grade?  They basically told us to clean out our lockers and GTFO.  Am I overreacting to this?  White Midwesterners thread?  Master Butthurt thread??    /rant

NO 8th grade graduation for fanning. This is something that is definitely trending though.

We had a giant food fight the day before our last day of 8th grade (which was a half-day). Our last day was spent with our teachers lecturing us, crying, or just plain staring us down and trying to make us feel guilty for 30 minutes :gocho:

(this 8th grade "graduation" thing is completely foreign to me)

I have someone who took 3 days vacation starting today to get ready for her daughter's 8th grade graduation this weekend.  3 DAYS.  And everything up to this point has lead me to believe she is a perfectly normal and well-adjusted person.  This came up in a meeting and when I said that an 8th grade graduation is foreign to me all I got was weird looks.

I pressed a little because I just assumed it a situation where 2 or 3 middle schools feed into 1 high school.  Nope, since this is ass-backwards Oklahoma the Tulsa suburbs don't split up schools so they can have 900+ kids in a class and dominate HS sports.  Can't split up the middle schools either, otherwise kids that will be playing together in HS will play against eachother in MS.  Can't have that.  Her daughter's school is having an 8th grade graduation just so next year the same group of kids will be in their own school at a 9th grade center.

Just when I think I've discovered everything ass-backwards about this state I unturn another gem.

I do love her YLA.  I even stated that in the first line and of course I'm proud of her.  But this is still rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).  As a parent this is one of those things that I'll have to suffer through with a nice fake smile on my face.  Hell, I will probably get Pak'd and stuff my face with Alma Cheese Curds leftover from the failed Topaka 2012 Basketball Edition.  Sure as hell doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

You know, Amish people don't go to school past the 8th grade. Maybe you guys should be a little bit more tolerant and let them celebrate their last day in school.

 You'll go to some "convention center". Dress casual. You'll listen to a few speeches (probably by nobody important), they'll grab there diplomas, and you'll be on your merry way. If nothing else, hand them a card with a $20 in it.

:flush:  I'll actually have to be in the office that Saturday fixing one of many eff-ups, some of which were likely committed by your fellow fighting rising phoenixes.

Ha. I'm sorry. They pay the bills though, so don't hate. That's weird, KC had their graduation last week, I wonder why Wichita is a week behind. tell them from one phoenix to another, congrats.

our 8th grade graduation was filled with everyone crossing the stage awkwardly, winning at least one "achievement" - ie "placed Satisfactory in the state math assessment!!!!!!!", and one korean kid in our class getting about 30 accolades more than everyone else  :shakesfist: ...nothing more than that, really.
gave us a good outlook on who would drop out in the next four years, and who would find any way to stay at the top. really beneficial.

I'd tell them that they are now overqualified so you will have to let them go. Also, that company email is not to be used for personal reasons.

Over lunch today, my boss asked the group of coworkers "how long do you think a rough ridin' 8th grade graduation will take?"  The consensus was 2-3 hours.

The bad part...  his daughter is in 7th grade and was elected by the 8th graders as an usher or something to help walk the older kids to tne stage.

Poor guy.

Pretty sure you can skip an 8th grade graduation that your 7th grade daughter is ushering and still be a good father.

Reason #1 ben ji would be a bad parent.

I would drop the kid off an pick them up.

I think the middle school I went to back in the day just recently as of last year maybe, started doing a "cap and gown" promotion thing? Yeah, we walked across a stage with nice clothes on and got a handshake and a certificate, it was also called our 8th grade PROMOTION as in we were being promoted to high school. We also had a special 8th grade promotion dance/game room kind of thing... but that it. and the way it should be. No cap and gown or individual party bull crap!!! Its STUPID
