Perhaps it was Weber's doing. Handing out sickles, next will be a hammer, in a turncoat cover-up attempt of his Nazi past?

why the whole "sickle cell anemia" thing wasn't brought up while he was being recruited, i don't understand
I can't say for sure but I am fairly sure that this "whole "sickle cell anemia" thing" isn't something that just shows up in a typical physical. Didn't Ryan Clark find out he had sickle cell by playing in Denver? Something about the low oxygen levels provided there?

No Ryan Clark knew before he just rolled the dice and nearly paid for it with his life, that's why Pittsburgh didn't give him a second chance to die.  Also he doesn't have sickle cell anemia, he has sickle cell trait, its different.  The altitude exaggerated his symptoms.  If Watson has Sickle Cell he's known forever, it could be that its getting worse.  My kids got tested for sickle cell at birth, I believe it is required by law in Kansas if either parent is a carrier.

Hadn't heard that, makes sense though. It's a pretty straight forward inexpensive test but many black people haven't been tested.

rough ridin' call me back!  Not tonight, but call me back.

James mother is posting over on the scout board.  Not too much that hasn't already been said in the articles.  She said James loves Manhattan and wouldn't be suprise if he made it his permanent home. Also was disappointed Weber didn't break the news and that it couldn't have waited until after finals was over.  EMAW

oscar doesn't crush the dreams of sick kids personally.  He's got people for that.  It's not his fault that other people who work for him are dicks.

Is the testing voluntary?  Despite how serious it can be, seems kind of  :opcat:

What Watson needs to understand is that past results, even if they happened somewhere else or with a different team, mean a lot.

He should have taken a page out of Omari's playbook. Once Omari heard about Orris, he conveniently went home for the week. Nice move Omari, very hungergameish. Watson got oscar'd and didn't even see it coming.

What's a bigger bad person move: letting a player continue to practice and play despite a life-threatening condition, or hiding behind a non-life-threatening condition as an excuse to cut a player from the team?

Well in one of your scenarios, the player with the condition is given a choice.  Sickle Cell can be managed in most cases.

And when Frank Martin left he told me, ‘You’re one of the most talented players on the team.’ Now I’m cut. I don’t get it. I guess it hasn’t hit me yet.”
And if he did, that was franks way of saying: "No, you can't transfer with me to South Carolina".

hey guys!  let's debate the level of shittyness by which players' scholarships can not be renewed!

frank was really shitty to his players.  but not as shitty as oscar!

imagine what the world would be like without rick daris here to stand up for all D1 players with sickle cell who've been forced to retire from the game.  it's scary.
