winning pct
1896-1939 = .562
1940-1979 = .253
1980-2011 = .524
to summarize
76 years of .542 football
40 years of .253 football
KSU went 8-31-1 vs. Kansas & 6-34 vs. Mizzou during the horid '40-79 stretch.
The remaining 76 years = 30-26-4 vs. KU & 27-24-5 vs. Mizzou
blah to '40-'79...that is a lot of ron princes
"K-State football. We've only been really bad 1/3 of the time" - cover of media guide material, no?
-
additionally, looking at both KSU and KU in terms of winning pct when Snyder took over at KSU.
winning pct 1869-1989
KU = .512
KSU = .372
where we are today:
winning pct 1869-2011
KU = .501 (they will likely go below .500, historically, after this season)
KSU = .439
should Snyder stay another 5 years and KSU average 9-4 (very possible) and KU average 4-8 (likely to happen IMO)
winning pct 1869-2016
KU = .494
KSU = .453
so a gap that had been .14 whittled down to .041 in just 25 years of Snyder football. BTW, if we average 10-3 over the next 5 years and KU averages 3-9 the gap is about .03 and closing fast.

Are you trying to pretend like the 80s weren't that bad? :confused:
-
i don't understand the obsession with ku.

The sad thing is . . . K-State had a window to actually get pretty decent in football in the 1950's and the athletic department and the administration wouldn't pony up a few more dollars for coach retention and recruiting.

In 20 years, this is how we'll talk about the Huggins-Martin era in basketball.
-
If we average 9-4 over the next 5 years, I will be quite happy

:dnr:

Only losers care about the past.
-
But didn't we win 17 conference championships in basketball plus two more tournament championships during that same stretch? Is it really fair to pretend that only one of our sports existed during that time or do we have to strike them both from the record? I'm all for voting out just football, but I want to make sure I'm on solid footing first before I go and debate this on the phog.

I don't think we can eliminate it, The Manhatter.

Good thread, Manhatter. Lots to think about in there.

We would not be America's team without our past and the scheme doctor would be a mere street pharmacist.
