Title: Neckbeards
Post by: CHONGS on April 24, 2012, 08:20:07 PM
A post by pissing clams got me thinking about neck beards.  I cannot grow a beard on my neck, but those of you out there who do, is it as itchy as I imagine?  What were the top 5 reasons you decided to grow one out (top three would also be ok)?  Also any other neck beard info would be amazing.

I don't grow a beard because it comes in reddish and my hair is not reddish and it looks weird.

Interesting...  does that mean all neckbeards are a different color than your normal hair? Maybe that's a plus for some.

It makes your neck hotter than facial hair should. Like, the physics of it make no sense.

Whenever I purposefully grow stubble or a beard, I always shave my neck.  That's a manscaping tip I learned years back while watching queer eye for the straight guy.

neckbeard should only, ONLY be present if you are going for a 3 or 4 day scruff look.  Past that, it just looks disgusting and lazy.

I keep thinking about getting lazer hair removal on the face.  I hate having facial hair.  I hate shaving.  But I am concerned abt getting in some accident later in life that will scar up my face and I will need the ability to grow a beard to cover my disfigured face up.

no, but shaving it is itchy.

1.  lazy
2.  lazy
3.  small face/weak chin (this is not really to do with the neck part, but the neck part combines reason 3 with reasons 4 & 5)
4.  lazy
5.  lazy

This is great foresight.  I have worked with two men that have used a beard for this very purpose.

My neckbeard grows 2x faster than the rest of my face. I'll have a solid neckbeard in 3 days. It also parts to one side on its own. If I dont shave for a week it looks fantastic. Go Cats.

i have no choice but to let it grow on occasion cuz I flat out refuse to shave 3-4 times a week. Rarely shave on the weekends.

i grew a full beard a couple years ago.  it was great.  not itchy at all, the issue of beard growing itchyness is a myth perpetuated by people who haven't grown more than a david charvet-esque, 5 o'clock shadow.

mine grew for 3 months without so much as a trim of the mustache.  this became an issue after about 6 weeks as the hair on my upper lip got so long that it would get filled with food and drink.

after 3 months, i shaved it.  the skin on my face had never been softer.

i miss my beard and will, one day, God willing, grow it back bigger and better than it was before.

thank you and good night.

this really makes me want to grow a beard.  I just don't think I could make it past the first 2 weeks. also I have to be somewhat presentable for clients.

Pete gets it right.  I've had a beard for about 5 years and always shave the neck and upper cheek.  Always.

i did the "no shave november" thing last year, and it was awful.  not sure how you mongoloids can stand having facial hair.

Whenevs I get to day 4 or so, I get to the point where I want to scratch my face off.

Don't get me wrong, I look fantastic w/ stubble, but it is just such a fine line with regards to comfort.  Too much work and kinda unpredictable.  Sometimes when I am rocking stubble, it crosses the line to itchy as hell in the middle of the day and I am stuck at work, or out w/ friends, and itchy as hell for hours.

I have such an internal struggle btwn my lazy-hate-to-shave side, and my hate-scratching-my-face-off side.

Lasers really seem like the best way out if it wasn't for some future car wreck/knife fight that I may eventually be party to.

I'm ridiculously good looking no matter what I do with my facial hair. As a favor to the rest of the single guys out there, I intentionally keep its length between shadow and beard, the scraggliest look I could achieve. You're welcome guys.

I know.  Unfortunately there are other barriers to the stubbled life.  Wife is not a fan.

has anyone ever used some sort of product in their beard that smooths out the hair?   Sometimes my beard gets all kinky and the only fix is to trim it down to slightly above the scraggly/scruffy stage.   I've had a beard for two solid years now and I just really haven't had the urge to go clean shaven again.

One thing I do HATE is mustache hair that gets so long it tickles my nose.   :curse:

Neck beards do suck though -  I shave my neck every morning in the shower - but I'll usually skip the weekends.

never let it go more than 48 hours since roughly my freshman year because of reddish tint mentioned previously in thread. currently on hour 55 and it's pretty fuzzy and anoying.

I typical look pretty damn handsome with a few days growth, but I hate the feel.  Comes in nice and full.  Uniform too.  If I go full blown beard it does start to take on a bit of a reddish hue, but that's pretty late in the game.  Otherwise nice and dark.  Manly as heck.

I like the two day look, but day three gets super itchy and day 4 is full on scratch my face off mode.  Day 4 while with cold/dry air and during a sweaty work out?  Forget about it.  Gonna remove the top 2/3rds of my jaw/neck skin with my fingernails.
