Most items I will buy what is cheapest and go, but I will pay $$ for select things.
Cheapie:
Food (grocery shopping)- I'll buy store-brand everything, and I've really learned to like it more than name-brand stuff.
Watches- I love my $30 Timex sport watch, and I also have a couple leather dress watches that are cheap that still look good, albeit simple. I have one nice watch, but I didn't buy it.
Household items- Soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, toothbrushes, toilet paper, paper towels etc.
Flights- I don't care about the airline, coach, or time of flight. If it's cheaper, I'm in.
Ties- Might be an odd one, but I won't pay over $20 for a tie. TJMaxx is great for this since everything they have is less than $15. I don't care what brand a tie is, I can find patterns that I like online for $6 shipped.
Will pay extra for:
Sunglasses- Can't stand cheap ones. Will pay even more for polarized.
Shoes- Specifically running shoes and dress shoes.
Guns- I only own 2, but I'll pay an extra $100 to ensure I'm not doing failure drills every 50 rounds.
Tools- Investment
Some electronics- I'll pay a bit extra for a TV with good picture and a good phone
In between:
Beer- I'll buy cheap stuff when I'm going to get pak'd, or some good beer that I really enjoy drinking. Just depends

Really can't stand any cheap things. The only time I'll consider skimping is when it's something I'll be building and I'll only be saving $$ by doing the labor myself. For instance I built a shed using shipping crates from Spirit surplus sales. The whole thing including paint screws shingles anchors etc cost about $150. If I would have bought an already made shed the same size it would have cost be $1000 easy.

i will never go cheap on toilet paper. i bought some cheap stuff from dollar general once, and it hurt my ass. felt like 10 year old fanning after his dad had been drinking for 12 hours. (molestation joke)

Agree on going cheap on food basics, the store brand bread and cereal tastes just the same and is made in the same plant.
Agree on going cheap on shampoo/soap/cleaing supplies.
Will also go cheap on Vegas Hotel Rooms, Flights, Fishing supplies, Oil Changes, Phones, Computers, Sunglasses.
Things I will not go cheap on
-Beer. All throughout college I dreamed of the day when I had enough money to fill my fridge with more than Natty. It is now filled with a wide selection of Pales Ales and IPA's

TP is a good one. On a side note I have a friend that only wipes with baby wipes....weird.

Cheap: airport parking
Not Cheap: Haircut

going cheap on all food is not awesome. It may be fine on your can goods and stuff, but honestly, if you are eating like a normal person, you just aren't using that many can goods.
IMO, you get what you pay for with most foods.
-
Cheap: Hookers and everything else.
Not Cheap: Going out on the weekend.

It depends on what store you are shopping at. I prefer the Kroger brand to most name brands for just about all products. I buy mostly meats and produce, though, so there aren't really "brands" anyway.
-
Eating cheap is damn near impossible when you're trying to limit your processed foods intake and eating more whole grains and organic/free range etc.

When you grill at your house hot dog and hamburger buns must be elite. GTFOOMF with this falling apart save brand crap.
-
I don't go cheap on anything.

Cheap: Store-brand foods when applicable (canned goods, frozen foods, ice cream, etc.), household items (i.e. Members Mark trash bags, laundry detergent, etc.)
Not-cheap: Anything over $20 bucks. Coffee makers, microwaves, Blu-ray players, etc. Whatever it is, I'm not cheaping out.
Also, I never leave a home improvement store with something cheap. I don't care if it's fertilizer or a flush valve, I'm paying for something that I won't have to replace again due to going cheap.
-
I go cheap on just about every material good. Easy to find cheap non-processed food overseas which is why non-Americans are skinny.
Some things spend medium, like hotels, certain clothes. I try really hard to find the best value otherwise I feel bad.
I spew money on living arrangements though. Also won't go cheap on real life experiences. Don't feel bad about either.
-
Not cheap: coffee, boxers, cereal

How much do you normally spend on a real life experience?
-
Cheap: golf balls. unless you're better than a 5 or so, you probably can't tell the difference (to a certain extent)
Not Cheap: everything else.
I don't go cheap, but I will research my ass off to find the best deal when I decide what I want.
-
go cheap on modern furniture. (IKEA)

Good news, friend. You can now go cheap on sunglasses as well. Berkely fishing company has some pretty sick looking polarized glasses that have the best lenses I've ever worn. You have to sift through a lot of crappier looking styles but there are some nice looking ones for like $20.
-
I go cheap on sunglasses because I lose and or abuse the crap out of them.
-
KK turned me on to knockarounds, which I like very much. I have a nice pair of sunglasses for nice things then like 4 pairs of knockarounds for whatever
-
I go cheap on everything because I'm saving up my money to go cheap on something really big.

Cheap: Little stuff
Not Cheap: Big stuff
-
Cheap: "party" beer. I'll go Busch Light over Bud Light any day, mainly out of the convenience of using a $20 versus 24.65 or whatever. I'd rather use that other 5 bucks on non-shitty pilsner beer.
Fast Food. Can't remember the last time I bought a combo instead of dollar menu items.
Expensive: Clothes. Polos/Sports shirts I usually splurge on. Still wear cheap shorts and usually just get ties from tiebar.com.

that's a good tip. KK definitely looks very hip in his knockarounds.
