TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Basketball is hard => Topic started by: wabash909 on April 02, 2012, 03:10:25 PM

It's sickening to see but it needs to be fought. THIS is what empowers Currie and allows for the abject mediocrity of the 90's to become the status quo again.

Wow. Just wow. Reply
After reading through some of the traffic of the past weekend (I intentionally stayed away), I must say that I'm completely embarrassed to be associated with some of you as a K-State fan.
I don't know if the Weber hire was a good one. I don't mind it, and can certainly see what Currie found attractive with him. But I can also see some negative aspects of it (i.e., the fact that he was looking for a job would be numero uno).
But here's the thing. Whether you like it or not, oscar Weber is the new coach of Kansas State basketball. Nothing you can do will change that fact now (I don't care how big of a donor you are). So why not just support the guy? How could anyone ever call themselves a Kansas State fan and wish bad upon our basketball team just because you don't like John Currie (who most of you have never met)? That is beyond stupid.
And here is a novel idea, if you look hard enough, there are some positives about this hire. Just try it.
Just so you know, the crap that was spewed about oscar Weber on this board is the same crap I heard from KU fans all weekend. Congrats on the new company you find yourself in.

Ditto. We have a terrible contingent of fans on this message board. It's embarrassing at times.

My emotions have swung. I was horrified at first, offended for a bit, upset for a bit, slowly accepting our fate for a bit and now I'm warming to the idea and getting excited about aspects.
Excited may be an exaggeration, but maybe I'll get there in the next couple of days, as some more things shake out.

I like to think that the individuals on here that continually tear down our players, coaches, and adminstration are not actually graduates of Kansas State University. I want to believe that they are just merely fans who get overly emotionaly regarding a sports team they follow.
If you were an alum, and followed K-State Athletics for the long-haul, you'd understand this is the strongest our Athletic Department has ever been from a competitive and financial perspective. Equating the current situation with our Men's Basketball Program to the doomsday scenario is a little short-sided. Some on here "forget" how far we've come as a University and Athletic Department.
Disclaimer: The entire Frank/Currie situation is very disappointing to me and I blame both sides. That being said, my allegiance is to my alma mater first and foremost.
If you want to only support your "Team" when they are winning and you are behind 100% of the decisions that Management makes, quit being a college sports fan. Go be a professional sports fan instead. That mindset better fits that segment of Sports.

It's a vocal minority. Not many people actually post but some of the ones who do are prolific.

If it's a small contingent, then they certainly are busy posting over and over their hatred for currie and weber. It's really getting old.

i don't think the tucks are on board yet. some are. some aren't. instead of alienating them why don't you try to use them as allies to your cause.
-
How many years did it take for them to finally awknowledge Jon Wefald and company were running the athletic department as their own personal fiefdom? It took the Prince contract issue to finally get Tuckville to recognize how far down the river they'd been led.
They're never going to change.

most still worship wefald.

The ones on board are the ones that obviously don't donate.
Nothing you can do will change that fact now (I don't care how big of a donor you are)

I am still fighting the good fight. I have been arguing with one guy for most of the day that can't understand how to comprehend that winning at mid-majors and then failing miserably at a high major shouldn't make you a shoe-in for our position. He also thinks that finishing 9th twice in the last 5 years doesn't matter because he won over a decade ago. Apparently recent success no longer translates to future success, all that matters is that you won a long time ago.
-
Just explain to them it is like hating Bush\Clinton\Obama (whichever fits best) but still loving your country.

Yes.
Additionally, I look at this as a "Get ride of Dan Beebe" type opportunity except replace OU with large donors/EMAW Nation. Enough negative publicity starts hitting newstands, Schultz will be obligated to take action. It's bullshit for people to think we can't do anything about it now that the hire is done.

It's different. Weef brought in Bill. Their allegiance to him was fully due to our extreme success with Bill.
Currie and Schulz haven't done anything other than balance a book. I gotta think they don't have the political capital or good will Weef did.

Steve Miller and Jack Epps "brought in Bill" . . . Weefer just took credit for it and it went straight to his head.

kstatefans was completely against this hire Saturday. It's not like that at all today.
-
It's sad. The only thing that is going to register with those idiots is another 20 years of dog crap basketball. Which is why WE have to try harder to push this movement.
Bring up the Sugar Bowl more often. That was 100% Currie's fault. Bring up the fact that LHC Bill Snyder doesn't like Currie. You can't argue against Snyder's opinions when you're a tuck.
-
Frank Martin was a cancer who was impossible to work with and whose shady recruiting practices threatened everyone around him.
Sincerely, his entire KSU South Carolina staff.

It's groupthink, plain and simple.
Rationalizing status quo mediocrity is safe and comfortable to them. Lazily sitting back and mindlessly supporting K-State leadership is the path of least resistance and the longer this protracts the more that will fall in line. This is 100% identical to the Asbury/Wooldridge years. Identical.
That's why the response needs to be direct and sustained to remain in the consciousness.
-
guys, we are mumped
-
Get a life, creepos.

I enjoy Weber trying to say "LHC Bill Snyder" as much as possible. And he'll try to get in Gene Keady as much as possible. If I was Bill, I'd tell oscar, "point plankn', take my name out ya mouth". That is what those f*cks think of this fan base. It tells you how f*cking stupid they KNOW this fan base is. Meanwhile, Gene Keady has done nothing but f*ck KSU every chance he got. We were never good enough for him, but sure good enough for his bullsh*t assistant that couldn't get it done at Illinois.

There are actually a lot more bullies over at that site than one would think. Every time people say something against Currie, they get slammed.

I think taking the position that Currie is looking for a way to run out Snyder would help.
-

They're never going to change.
They loved Prince until he ran them over in the street, then suddenly they all knew he was no good.
-
What the eff has Gene Keady ever done for K-State?
He stole from Hartman the Reed point guard kid who went on to win two Big 10 titles. Other than that, I can't think of a thing except tell Currie that Weber was the man.
