Title: Best school to start supporting?
Post by: Odd1 on March 31, 2012, 12:57:43 PM
I'm really thinking of going the t-shirt fan route.  There are so many great programs out there...  It's like browsing the multi-million dollar homes online and thinking 'Oh yeah, if I won the lottery I'd buy THAT one'.  I think I have it down to four finalists:  Texas, Florida, Michigan State, and (dark horse) West Virginia.  Considered Ohio State and Wisconsin, but just can't do it.  Who is the best choice of the four?  Or am I missing any other obvious candidates?  Things to consider:

Future success in football
Future success in basketball
Televison coverage in Topeka
Message board environment (I don't post much, but like to browse)

Obvious choice is South Carolina. Program on the RISE. Now that we have KSU's coach and going to get some of KSU's players, we should be great in bball. Spurrier has football program on the rise, and don't even get me started on baseball. Even our women's hoops team is killing it with Dawn Staley. West Virginia??? Psssscht.

Rock Chalk?

I don't think you understand the game.  Think BIG.  Not great basketball + shitty football.

I live in Tulsa so I'm buying UTulsa season Tickets and hanging my KState diploma backwards on the wall until this crap is fixed.

Danny Manning will be interesting.

I could always go the Wichita St. route. Imagine how fun it could be saying things like mid-majors get no respect and the big schools are just afraid to play us. Plus I could pick any team I want to for football. I could still follow KState (not likely with Currie as AD) or maybe Oklahoma St. (fiancee is a fan, so there's that).

Not an awful idea.

Thinking of following DePaul because it's close and would be lol worthy. (and will be a midmajor soon)

the hard thing about supporting texas though, is you would have to watch your team lose to oscar weber all the time.

I don't think this is going to be a problem, bro.  CTR dominance is done.

NC State played a lot like JYC this year. I think I am going to go be a NC State fan...also they hate Roy...I already hate Roy, I'll fit right in. There's room on the bandwagon for everyone

Pros to being a newfound Texas fan -

Their longhorn hand sign thingy is probably the most recognizable hand sign thingy in the college sports world!  :emawkid: <--only burnt orange and with a longhorn hand sign thingy

Geez guys I was absolutely floored when I saw the news.

I'm sorry for you guys.  The Big XII is the toughest basketball conference in the nation and if Webber couldn't continue the momentum that Bill Self started in Illinois in the Big 10, then I can't imagine Webber doing any better in the Big XII.

Believe me I know how bad it hurts to see your beloved program go down in flames like a bad train wreck you just have to sit and watch.  My Oklahoma State Cowboys used to be a perennial Big Dance team and our AD (Holder) made a horrible hire (Travis Ford) and now we are having losing seasons - the first in nearly 25 years when we had Leonard Hamilton.  Holder single handidly destroyed our program by making a horrible hire and sticking with him.  It's as if the Sutton Era never existed.

You guys had a long drought and Huggy Bear / Martin got you guys back...at least right now Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and TCU still suck.

For me, the team I adopted was Iowa State.  I think the Mayor is a smart guy that loves his alma mater and Hilton is back.  I don't think you guys really have any kind of rivalry with the Cyclones do you?

I do like Rick Barnes too though and can't help rooting for Texas as well.

I may transfer to Duke. I'll have to put up with Dipsey-Do-Dunkaroos but it's better than watching my favorite dog get euthanized over a 10 year period.

Trying to decide if I should burn all my gear or just try to cover up the "State" and dye it crimson & blue. Thoughts?
