Title: 4 out of 5
Post by: Cartierfor3 on March 14, 2012, 04:54:38 PM
Much to BigWillie's disappointment, this makes 4 out of 5 years under Frank Martin that KSU has been dancing.  Put in perspective this way:

Teams that have been in 5 out of 5 since Frank's arrival (13 Teams)
BYU
Duke
Gonzaga
Kansas
Louisville
Marquette
Michigan St
Purdue
Temple
Texas
West Virginia
Wisconsin
Xavier

Teams that have been in 4 out of 5 since Frank's arrival (19 Teams)
Butler
Clemson
Connecticut
Florida St
Georgetown
K-State
Kentucky
Memphis
Missouri
North Carolina
Notre Dame
Ohio St
Pittsburgh
Syracuse
Tennessee
Texas A&M
UNLV
Vanderbilt
Villanova

Teams that have been in 3 out of 5 since Frank's arrival (15 Teams)
Arizona
Baylor
Belmont
California
Cornell
Florida
Michigan
San Diego St
Siena
Southern California
UCLA
Utah St
VCU
Washington
Western Kentucky

Interesting to note that teams like Ohio St, UNC, Kentucky, and UConn have all missed tournaments in the past 5 years.  This to me speaks to Frank's consistency as a coach and helps us understand where we are as a program.

I am fine with nothing more than NCAA tourney appearances 4 out of 5 years for at least another 10 years.

I'm ok with this too, but I want to seem big-timey and turn the NIT down the year we don't make it

Pop your collar and stay awhile Frank.   No significant expectations at K-State, and you get paid nearly $2 million a year.

Life is good for Frank Martin.   :drink:

If we continue to go 4/5, we're going to be able to make some solid tourney runs every few years.  I'm cool with that.  (Also, next year should be E8 or bust.)

So we should be consistently in the top 10 by mid-conference play?

Next season?  Maybe.  Doubt it.  Frank will be Frank during the non-con and probably cost us a game or two.

Exactly.  Look at the teams in the 3 out of 5 list.

We have also been the "Home team" in round 1 the past 3 seasons.    2,5,8 seed.... averages out to be a 5 seed.     I fully expect us to be a top 5 seed next year too.

If u were to tell me that in fall of 09, that Gruds and that class would be dancing each year with an ave seed of 5.......  No doubt  I would have taken that

I dunno, seems like that class was pretty good.
Wally 5*, did not yet know he was a FP, TC
Rod 4*, pretty highly touted
Henriquez, legit size, not an bad athlete, even at the time
Russell
Irving

If Wally and Russell didn't turn out to be worse than expected by a long shot, that is a pretty rough ridin' good class.

I was hoping to see the round of 32 numbers.  If you don't want to be elite, go ahead and pick a new a team now.
