Has anyone else done this? :driving: (ftp://:driving:)I felt bad but also thought it must have been a pretty dumb bird. I guess the rain could have have been a factor though so it might have not been a real Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) bird. I mean I didn't feel as bad as I would if it was a dog or cat but still thought about it's bird family it won't be going back too. (ftp://:cry:) I've never hit a dog or a cat thank god. Ran the eff over several rabbits. That made me feel real shitty. Also hit a squirrel or two but that didn't bother me one bit. I guess a bird would be 4th on my list when feeling bad about hitting an animal with a car...
1) Dog
2) Cat (would make #1 if it's a cute cat)
3) Rabbit
4) Bird
5) Human
6) Squirrel
7) Possum

Possums get alot of unwarranted hate. Very misunderstood creature the opossum. It's a shame really.
-
What is the misunderstanding?
Are they not ugly overgrown rodents with little tangible value?
-
They are marsupials.

This Opossum broke into a bakery and ate so many pastries he couldn't move.
Love this little guy.

When I was in drivers ED in HS we got a brand new drivers ed car. I was the first one to take it out.
Hit a deer and totaled it :driving:
-
I hit some big bird once (vulture maybe). It left long scratch marks all across my hood, so I didn't feel bad for the bird. I was pissed about my car.
-
One time I hit a opossum and laughed. Which is basically the opposite of what happened the time I hit a cat (with a pink collar).
-
Deer x2, wooping crane, pheasant, turkey, various small birds, an owl, dog x3, squirels, coyote, etc.
Skunks suck. Felt bad about the crane (not really sure if wooping or just sand crane) shattered my windsheild.
When I lived in KC I saw the remnants of a deer on a 6 lane interchange. Blood was smeared for what looked like an area the size of a football field. There were just big bones left and nobody could dodge cause of all the traffic. I wonder what the begining of that carnage looked like.
-
I hit a bird back during drivers ed.

You guys are bad drivers.

You guys are bad drivers.
I don't think hitting an animal makes someone a bad driver. :dunno:

How the hell do you hit a cow? Its not like it will just pop out in front of you like a deer.
Did you pull a beems? :drink: :driving:

I hit a dog (survived) once. Also a hawk, no idea what happened to it. That's it.

that's a sugar glider (no wonder you can't keep a man).
i hit a cow once too. pretty rough.

I knew a guy who had a sugar glider for a pet.

True story. Back in my college years we were at a friends house on Anderson enjoying a bbq and a opposum crossed the road with all of us watching and a car just rolls right over this opposum and it gets up and runs off like nothing happened. Tough roddents. On another note i'm terrified of trash bags on the road more than hitting an animal

Welp. Good thing we cleared that up. I should probably spend some time in the zoo thread.

Will not swerve. Thats how you die over a freakin' squirel. I mean I've dodged quite a few critters but some times conditions do not permitt evasive action.

the good news is that sugar gliders are a type of possum, so you were rough ridin' right in the first place.

oh wow. i can't tell if you are stupider about etymology or zoology, but if it's not one, it's the other. what a great day.

you really couldn't throw a random object into the air without it hitting something that clams is just extremely stupid about, so really every day is a great day.

Hit a quail driving from Manhattan to KC. Thing laid on the bumper the whole way home, didn't know it until I got home.
A falcon slammed into my office window a few years ago, it was chasing a blackbird, the blackbird died, but the falcon shook it off and flew away. All the other songbirds were going nuts . . . it was like a scene from the Birds.

that's a common bushtail opposum native to australia. sys knows nothing about animals.
SOURCE: I go to a very elite zoo pretty often

There are less than 300 wild whooping cranes on this planet. If you hit a whooping crane, you should feel horrible. A sand crane would be no big deal, though.
-
oh man, my bad. i didn't see she called it an opossum. i'm a rough ridin' idiot. color me embarrassed.
my apologies go out to phalangeriformes everywhere.
thx for pointing that out sys, before someone else did. argh.
-
Oh man, that common bushtail opossum probably had a good run there for awhile. What a windfall for that little guy. Looks like he has quite the tummy ache right there
-
omg do we still have the facepalm emoticon because i would rough ridin' use it right now.

I once hit a 14 point buck in my 1980 Mercury Zephyr. It rolled over twice, tried to get up, fell down, tried again and ran way. The biggest dear I've ever seen. Team Zephyr just needed a new radiator though.
I hit a doe in a 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback, but due to the radiator being so small and only on one side, I escaped with a lost bumper and crumpled hood. Four months later I was driving home from work, and there were 5 deer spread across the two lane highway. So...I knew my car was done either way, so I sped up to 75 and well that deer went for a long flight through the air.
Never hit a bird, hit an opossum once though. Pretty sure I've run over a snake or two.
I once saw a turtle crossing the highway, so I pulled over to go help him out, and as I was getting out of my car a diesel ford toughing a motorboat crushed the little guy. :(

like a typo but a reado, i feel for you.
and you all hit snakes, you rough ridin' dicks.

All the liars in this thread omitting drifters from things they have crushed on the road should bow their head in shame

I love buzzing turtles with a vehicle with enough clearance. You see the little dude chuggin along as fast as they can :runaway: and zooom vehicle blows right overhead.
I always glance at the rear view mirror and the little guy's tucked in his shell like :peek: . I usually have a little giggle to myself. :driving:

i'm surprised to find out that the broadhead skink is on kansas's T&E list. used to see them everywhere while out snake hunting.

Imagine pulling into the driveway, with wifey and young'n standing there, waiting on you to get home. "Honey, I'm home!"
:horrorsurprise: :runaway: (take your pick which is wifey or young'n)

Glad you brought up the snake hunting. Many great memories of doing this. I currently love that show, Rattlesnake Republic. Love to see them clean up Texas of those evil creatures. Just. Love. It. :excited:
-
we would just find them, not kill them.
-

They don't kill them in Texas either. They just kinda round them up and take them in for money. Sounds like a good deal. Except the getting bit part.

Can anyone confirm that cows explode when you hit them like in Cruis'n USA?
-
Also, I was with someone who ran over a turtle once :frown:

The vehicle that hits them does the 'splodin. Unless you're driving a tank.
-

no, they just die. it's pretty awful.

I think it usually ends like the scene in the movie Me Myself and Irene. :dunno:

When I worked out in Western Kansas a Pheasant would fly into my car about every 3 miles from garden city to scott city. Since I was living off of a poor mans radio budget, I would throw the birds in the trunk and eat them for dinner. :lick:

a snake (probably 2 to 3 feet long) was about a foot away from me last night before i noticed it while mowing. rough ridin' hate snakes. instincts took over and i put the mower over the snake. made a lot of noises, kind of like a lawn mower chewing up a snake. anyway, i pulled the mower away, and sure enough, there was a dead snake underneath. take that you stupid snake.
-
what kind of snake was it?
-
don't know (lsiq), but it had black and brown stripes going down the long way of its back. well, that was until it had a bunch of pinkish red guts coming out everywhere :gocho:

This. If i see a small furry animal in the street I know it's a small furry animal. But a trash bag (or other bag?). As my father always said, "could be a bag of nails, or a bag of kittens. do you really want to hit it and find out?"
-
if i'm on sys' property, then i fully expect it.
you'd deserve it too.
