Will donate, but what is the money going toward? Fatty4KSU scholarship fund?
Also, if _Fan can put this on a T-shirt, I'd wear the ever living life out of it:

The link explains it:
The funds will go directly to the ongoing treatment of Weesam Alkhatib, peritoneal mesothelioma cancer research, and a memorial project.
-
Yeah, I skipped over SD's link. Figured he was getting a miles kickback out of it or something. Thanks though.

Yes, well done with that one

I didn't see the link for goEMAW'rs until after I donated. :dubious: The "donate" img/button is so inviting.
I never had the chance to meet him, but its very obvious he was a great guy, and well loved. He will be missed.

Having a yearly scholarship awarded to a ksu student would be great.

Yeah...perhaps someone could organize a benefit tennis tournament to get that ball rolling.
-
Having a yearly scholarship awarded to a ksu student would be great.
no it wouldn't. i've had scholarships named after people. i never knew anything about the person, nor did i care. the last thing that would be good to do with the money is to give it to some ungrateful student who doesn't no crap or care about emaw.

you act like there isn't a letter or summary of goals that accompanies scholarships. I mean if it didn't start off with :combofan: in some fashion toss that app in the trash.

I'm confident that it could be done in a way where this wouldn't be the case.

Based on what I've read/gathered from years of lurkings, giving it to a MHS student who makes the decision to become an EMAW might be appropriate

I would absolutely contribute to a scholarship fund that promoted/rewarded fatty's values.

any student with half a brain can falsify a sincere essay or letter or anything else.

Fly finalists to wherever sys happens to be (probably close to the equator) for an interview?

we could set up an interview and have us furiously ask them questions about EMAW related things

Any money Pete and LSOC get from scalping my big 12 tourney tickets they don't use will be going to the Fund. So, should the Cats lose Thursday or Friday, know that some mizsquawk is getting gouged by those two in Fatty's honor.

By my calculations, it is at $3,359.88. In under 18 hours.
This is amazing. I had no interaction with him except for on message boards (and even then it really just consisted of reading his posts), but he obviously touched many people here and it shows.

Surprised no one appears to have done 45-42 yet. If you haven't donated yet, this is a good place to start. :emawkid:

It's more than that when you include the donations made via the paypal link. That figure is just posters from this board. Also, for anyone that is donating a large figure that would like to save goEMAW some money on paypal fees they can send a check directly to:
Checks payable to: Shwan "Fatty" Alkhatib Memorial Fund
can be mailed to:
Dickinson County Bank
P.O. Box 217, Enterprise, Kansas 67441
-
I had no idea how much of a cut PayPal takes. That's lame.

yeah, we thought it was important to start the ball rolling early and will be covering the paypal fees since goEMAW is so far in the black we forgot what red looked like.
-

Yeah, I was a little disappointed, but I won't complain because the ease of use surely causes many more people to donate than would have otherwise, so you come out ahead anyway.

does PP charge the same fees if its tagged as a donation?
-
does PP charge the same fees if its tagged as a donation?
it doesn't if you have the non-profit set up. which was just officially set up this morning. it still has fees, but cheaper.

good stuff than. Keep up the good work. :combofan:

the board is covering everyones fees that donate using paypal. if you put in $25, then the fund will get $25, so if that's still easiest for someone then keep on doing it that way. if you can write a check and mail it directly to the bank listed earlier then that's prob the best option from here on out though.

Paypal LOVES donations

From what I understand, PayPal doesn't charge the fee if you use funds from a PayPal account instead of a credit card. (basically an eCheck)

PayPal permits the donation button to be used by verified non-profit organizations. PayPal also permits donations to the accounts of individuals or organizations that are authorized to fundraise on behalf of verified non-profit organizations.

nevermind, I guess that's just for personal payments. :shakesfist:

This really shows how amazing the group of people we spend our time online here with are. The donations have been amazing. If possible, please do your best to get the word out so we can extend this past the message board.

My company match with only match 501(c)(3), as is policy with a lot of other company matches. I know mine has some other criteria that I am going to look into today, but I know the initial criteria is it has to be a 501(c)(3). If it is a 501(c)(3) then encourage donors to check their company match policy.
