Title: Daily Show/Colbert Report
Post by: SdK on February 29, 2012, 05:20:14 PM
I figured I would make a new thread instead of trying to hijack another one.

I get breaking news from twitter and as far as tv goes, I watch the aforementioned tv shows. I like how they rag on fox news a lot. I like how they also call other news networks out as well. I know I know, they pick on fox the most, and I do enjoy that. I do like that they don't ONLY pick on them. I like when they take things politicians say and show video from times that they have said the exact opposite. I like how they comment on the absurdity of today's society. I love the shows a lot. I do, in fact, get most of my "news" from these shows. They do shape my view, but I don't pretend to be an expert or go and lecture others about the things I hear on there. I see other people watching select news stations and going out and preaching all that they hear on there. I hate that.

Is it possible to hate the Daily Show or Colbert Report? Why?

Would you argue that I am less informed by watching the Daily Show than someone who only watches CNN/Fox/MSNBC? Why?

Do you Sundance_Kid wish that Jon Stewart would run for office in a decade or so? And would you vote for him? Yes. Yes.

I see a lot of threads about things that people are interested in and care a lot about. So I wanted to start my own. I  Jon Steward and Stephen Colbert!!!!!

Go!!!!

I love both shows. But remember that you're watching news about news.

As to whether you are you better off than if you only watched one of the others? No idea. But are you better off than if you watched all others? Definitely not.

I don't hate the Daily Show or Colbert Report - I like the Daily Show. I just hate people who "get their news" from the Daily Show or Colbert Report. I mean, honestly, are you not aware how stupid that sounds to get your news from Comedy Central? Probably not. It is really, really stupid.

As a society, we deserve this sort of idiotic nonsense. We've done far too little to curtail the stupidity of the least common denominator.

I like the Daily Show and watch it probably once every other week, even though my political views are very different than Stewart.  Mostly I just think that Colbert's act is tired and played, so I don't watch that one hardly ever.

Why not get news from the Colbert or the Daily Show?

Remember Obama's former press secretary stated that one of those two shows had the toughest, or most in-depth interview of Obama during the last presidential election campaign.

I think that pretty much tells you all you need to know in regards to the MSM in the United States, particularly the standard left leaning (no, not down the middle as some claim) CNN and the straight off the DNC news wire MSNBC, NBC, CBS and ABC.

Which news outlet would you consider to be the most unbiased?

He strikes me as super arrogant and deluded, so I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a shot at politics.

I agree with K-S-U on Lena Dunham though. She's all, "Look at me I dress in a way that makes me look provocative, yet I accentuate the way I am not an ideal female body type(unattractive)."  Gross. Quit looking like a nasty person. Girls has gotten worse too.

Given the amount of talent that has come through TDS, it is exciting to see who will come up and make something in the void.  Colbert and Stewart both gone and John Oliver is on HBO.  That Larry Wilmore guy has his on Comedy Central show, but no way just the one show, from a guy new to the job, will fill the void.  This is the kind of change that will either really hurt Comedy Central, or create a new big name or two.

Oliver is killing it on HBO.  Comedy Central has to be kicking themselves they didn't try to retain him now that Colbert and Stewart will be gone.  I didn't think the guy following Kilborn would be as good (I was definitely wrong) but unless somehow Oliver comes back, I really have no idea who could follow Stewart.

Samantha Bee's new show looks good.

Nice piece on a state senator from Kansas.

Really excited for Sam Bee.  Daily Show is just getting bad.  Poor writing and really basic jokes.  The Nightly Show is just awful.

Who do neocons hate more, lena or john?

I can't stand Lena Dunham. I find her to be an appalling waste of space.
