I mean, it isn't the WORST thing ever, but we saw in the Cotton Bowl how handicapped our offense was when it started every drive @ the 20, as opposed to getting nice field position from our return game...

Ball goes to the 25,
Another new NCAA rule involving free kicks will move touchbacks from the 20 to the 25-yard line, a move intended to encourage more touchbacks.
-
oh man, can't wait for the weekly "why did they put it at the 25" thread on this and other boards
-
even more worried that whoever is kicking for us still wont make it into the endzone :blank:
-
True that. If there's one thing KSU teams have always lacked, it's quality kickers.
-
can't leap over blockers on punts? :flush:
-

Threads be damned, I can't wait for every announcer to explain the rule every time. They think we are so stupid, they were still explaining that "Every scoring play in the NFL is being reviewed this year," in the rough ridin' Super Bowl.
-
Not too worried about this...NFL kick returns didn't see too much of a drop off this year after moving the ball forward 5 yards, and I'm sure college football will be no different.
Teams adjust, kickers try not to kick it through the end zone every time in an effort to have the ball returned.

This is really a stupid rule.

you don't think this is going to cause more touch backs?

I just wish people would stop changing rules so they can make the game less entertaining.

I think our kicker will now be able to make it to the endzone.
-
It will make it easier to hit the ez, but it will also make it easier for coverage to get to our returner if the kicker isn't trying to get it to the ez. More coverage is a bad thing for a team that routinely relies on it's return to beat other teams.

The pro teams do this, but their kickers are much, much better than college kickers. I think the majority of college teams will just tell the kicker to put the ball out the back of the endzone.
-
Lets take away one of the most explosively surprising and exciting things in college football.
:SarcasticFistPumpWithoutAnyHeartInIt:
-
Cmon guys, you're acting like Tyler won't go all Randall Cobb and take it to the house from 9 yards deep.
-
There will be more people waiting for him in better position now.
-
Yeah right, as if Lockett III won't break their ankles and run right past their cripple asses.
-
In Sean We Trust, right? :runaway:
-
Imagine how fast Lockettt will be now that he isn't dragging around that superfluous kidney!
-
Can we put up a net along the entire endzone to make all kicks returnable? :excited:
-
I'd be fine doing away with kickoffs completely
-

this is exactly my point. this is a horrible thing for our game. we need Lockett out there stealing a possession and points with the slow methodical nature of our game. Defensively its slightly better than a push for us.
-
To adjust, we need to hold much more and also field guys on our coverage teams that really enjoy hitting v. hard and hurting people.
Didn't the halo rule get dropped too?
If so, returners are going to get knocked the f out this year.
-
Didn't the halo rule get dropped too?
....wasn't that removed like 5 seasons ago?

I think it was two ago.
