Title: Who wins tonight????
Post by: bigDcat on February 21, 2012, 02:41:18 AM
Reasons why the Cats can win this game:

Vegas line went from +11 to +9 in one day.

MIZ doesn't have to win this game to win the conference. Maybe the antlers are looking ahead to this weekend's final border war game.

Maybe Mikey Dixon was right and KSU is playing their best ball of the year.

Maybe the stars have aligned and Frank will finally get his first and likely last W in Columbia.

Win or lose this will probably be a shitty game to watch.

Yeah, I'm talking to you Will.

I haven't been confident about a win in Columbia since Lance Harris the Tiger Killa was roaming the court for the 'Cats.

Keep this one in the low 60s or lower and I think we have a shot. If Henriquez can continue his recent solid play, he could really be a big factor, I think his defensive presence in the paint really limits their guards ability to finish around the rim.

And, yeah, it would be nice to make some shots too.

Any chance Denmon has his worst game of the year against us again? Or their fat big gets in foul trouble again?

Our recent defense makes me want to think we can do this, but history tells me we'll lose bad.

Pfft... Aren't we playing a team we already beat by like 20 or something?  Didn't we just beat a top 10 team on the road?  Aren't we 4-0 against teams leaving the conference this year?  Get ready to celebrate Mardi Gras and a 'Cats victory tonight, you guys.

We need to force them to shoot a poor percentage from three, but the key last time was 2pt shots. We finished 24-45 on 2s and they were only 9-25. We also killed them on the boards and oboarded at a 42% clip. I'm not necessarily counting on both of those, so I'm counting on us having to hit shots (better than 50% eFG%) to win.

I still don't think we are an NCAA caliber team.  We might make it in somehow, but there is a lot of teams that won't that could beat our ass.

I wouldn't normally say this, but I think it depends on the officials.   In favor of us, if we can get Ratliff in foul trouble early and often we have a very good chance.  I think our defense has been solid in the last 5 games and I don't see any reason for a dropoff.  We could be their OU this season.

Why are there so many damn posters that feel like they need to be edgy and different? JFC this is a NCAA tounrament team. We've had some let downs, and some big shining moments. Reminds me a lot of the Beasley season.

USF, Pitt, Uconn, Purdue...off the top of my head.  I'd have to do some more research to get a full list.  No one that watches this team can honestly sit back and say they have a realistic shot of winning more than 1 game in the tournament right?  What good wins do we have?  At home against Mizzou that totally crap it's pants that game, at Baylor where they sucked it up as well?  Other than those 2 teams that have layed over for us we haven't done crap

I bet our defense had nothing to do with Mizzou and Baylor playing poorly offensively against us.

Pitt? GMAFB. Pitt's best win is over Georgetown at home. They got handled at home by Long Beach.

UConn's best win is Florida State at home.

USF's best win is Seton Hall, at home, by 1.

Purdue beat Temple and Northwestern! Woooo!

In other words, we have 2 wins that are vastly better than any win from the teams you mentioned. 'Grats Beems.

The bubble may be slightly weaker this year, but its about the same every year. Teams ranked around #20-40 have flaws and this year is no different.

Good point. Normally, bubble teams are elite squads who would beat this K-State team by 30.

You missed my original point.  We have done our part and took care of most of the shitty teams in conf. while teams like Pitt and Uconn haven't.  Now match us about together in postseason at a neutral site and they would more than likely beat us.  It's not our fault we may make it in because we handled our business, just don't act like the Cats are far superior to all these other bubble teams or off the bubble teams because we happened to luck out and squeak out a 1-point win on the road against an overrated team with a clownshoe for a coach.

IF JO plays D like he did Saturday, IF Martavious and Shane can play some D on the guards, IF we hit 11 of 19 from 3, IF we get Ricardo in foul trouble early and IF Jamar and Gip can be effective scoring down low, then we got this no prob.

K-State 71
Missouri 67
Title: Re: Who wins tonight????

You can't call Baylor overrated at this point in the season. 5 losses, didn't lose to any bad teams, even all the "middle of the pack" teamson the road in the Big 12. They should be better with their talent, yes. But overrated at #13 is ridiculous. You probably think Missouri is overrated too? We have a much higher upside than any bubble team based on our top 10 wins. Not sure why I'm trying to speak logically to you, it's obvious that you can't comprehend it.

Also, when we make the tourny, don't delete your account and start a new one. You're done for good.

If we out rebound them, play good D and take care of the ball we win.  If we fail in any of those, especially the latter, then we lose.

I think the only reason people consider us an NCAA tournament team is because of recent success.  A year like this preHuggins/Martin and we are firmly outside of the tournament.  Good to be elite. :ksu:

This team has potential to be really good. Defense has been fairly consistent all year. If this team can hit shots and not turn the ball over, we can beat anyone. Why the eff do you even watch them play if its not fun? I'm not so delusional that I don't see the flaws this team has, but you have to see some good things too. They struggle to shoot well, turnovers have been a nightmare, and they foul a lot, but they also play energetic defense which has kept us in a lot of games this year.

I'm really not sure what bigwillie20 is being so hostile about.  This team isn't bad.  It's flawed, but it's not bad.  It has definite strengths, and if Will gets back to a point where he's hitting closer to his average over a period of games and Angel can consistently be about 75% of what he was against Baylor, this team can do some damage in a conference or national tournament.

The things this team can control, defense and rebounding, are pretty much always consistently good.  If we get hot on offense, they can beat anyone.  The first game against Mizzou is proof of how badly this team can wreck an elite squad if all cylinders are firing.

This isn't a team that can probably consistently win over the course of an 18 game season, but if you isolate it to 3-6 games where the offense starts clicking, they can eff some teams up.

We're a bit weak from the wings, IMO.  But, we're certainly not a bad team.  You don't go .500 in a very good league if you're bad.  Pretty simple.

We're a decent NCAA team that will probably get bounced in the 2nd round.

Its all about match-ups once you get there. I could see this team getting beat in the first round, but I could also see them playing in the 2nd weekend. Its not like there are a bunch of dominant teams this year in college basketball and its not like any team that has beat us has just ran away from us this year either.

I'll give you that one, we played terrible. We also didn't play our best option at PG.

I don't get your argument (no one has said we some great team, just a decent one), but there is something a bit admirable about your persistence.

Now match us about together in postseason at a neutral site and they would more than likely beat us.

I'm pretty sure everyone else's point is that this is not true.

Which is dumb.  Have people even watched this team play or they just turn on Wyattvision and let him make us sound good?   :ksu:

Have you watched the teams you listed play? Do you really think they "looked" superior to K-State while they built up their inferior resumes? I still admire your sticktoitiveness, but your ammo in this thread is incredibly weak.

Yes I did.  Tell me who have we beat that is worth a crap?  Mizzou and Baylor played arguably their worst games of the B12 slate against us when we beat them.  A win is a win, but seriously?

Long Beach State  :dunno:

Plus an OT loss versus WV, last second loss @ ISU (where KU got beat), and close loss at home w/ Baylor.  Not like this is a crap team getting shelled by other "good" teams.   Maybe you just don't appreciate this style of basketball...it's ugly...but not garbage.

OU kicked our face in down in Norman.  They have a pretty solid club though

Rutgers nearly doubled Pitt up in Pittsburgh. They have a pretty solid club though (#150)

DePaul also beat Pitt. They have a pretty solid club though (#191)

That pesky Rutgers squad also took down UConn. They have a pretty solid club though (still #150)

Tennessee dispatched UConn as well. They have a pretty solid club though (#108)

Old Dominion triumphed over USF. They have a pretty solid club though (#119)

Penn St. followed suit against USF. They have a pretty solid club though (#133)

Auburn kicked USF's face in. They have a pretty solid club though (#124)

Butler defeated Purdue. They have a pretty solid club though (#113)

Penn St. curbstomped Purdue. They have a pretty solid club though (still #133)

Its amazing how many teams have had one of their worst offensive games against us. So much so that we've lucked into the 2nd best defense in the league.

I like the slightly angry, very sarcastic _FAN.  I vote we see that more often.

wow, people are still talking bubble?

Yes. Crazy.

It’s not crazy.  Maybe not probable, but not crazy.  We’re in this position right now (7-7 instead of comfortably at 9-5) because this team hasn’t done what it should do (i.e. beat OU, @ OU….we were even favored against BU at home, though we “stole” it back).  It should win 2 of @MU, ISU, @ A&M, and OSU…should.  If we had lost to Baylor, the talking point would have been “we still have a lot of games left”.  Well…we still have a lot of games left…to win…or lose.   We probably won’t lose more than two, but our two homes games are certainly not givens. And A&M has been playing everyone tough.

It really is amazing.  You'd think Mizzou would get the red-headed stepchild treatment after leaving the Big 12 and damn near killing this conference, but no, they get more calls than any other program in the league, and it's really not close.

This has been the most shocking development of the year.  I mean, eff them over.  They have been talking trash on this conference for over a year.  The refs were plenty happy to screw ATM in football.  Why are they literally helping MU now?  SO rough ridin' weird.

while shocking, I'm wonder how much it has to do with where the refs are coming from.  My understanding is that football refs are conference refs, whereas b-ball refs go between conferences.  So there is no incentive for a ref to call a game for a conference.

I quit reading halfway through, but JFC bigwillie. Are you just trolling? It's like you're tethered to the rest of us, as our hopes beliefs and observations of the state of the team rise, you just stay the exact same amount below it, bitching.

Remember how you felt after the KU game? How "nice" you were being? Get back there. You've already dug yourself a hole that you can't be saved from,  just suck it up and be cautiously optimistic, or you're going to PI'd over these comments for a very long time. Maybe that's what you want?  :dunno:

It may have been cool to be on the we're not making the tourney wagon for a bit, and talking down on this team, so you could say I told you say. (Never understood why anyone would do that, wanting to be right about a failure of a team you cheer for). But the point stands now, that you were completely wrong and the more you talk, the more wrong you become.
