Title: Living Alone
Post by: SdK on February 20, 2012, 02:51:17 PM
If you have ever lived alone, did you close bathroom and bedroom doors when you were in there like you would if you had roommates? Have you ever made your living room the bedroom and the bedroom the living room just because you could?

To anyone that has lived in a multistory apartment building that had identical floor plans stacked on top of each other. When you were in your bedroom and going to sleep, did you ever feel like you were in a weird bunk bed? Especially if the floor/ceilings were thin?

I live alone now. Bathroom door always open, bedroom door always closed.

Always thought about the weird bunk bed thing when I lived in apartments. I don't really close doors when I'm going to bed or the bathroom anyway, so the 6 months I lived by myself nothing really changed.

Stevesie just put himself down as the first post in the "Posters you would least want to live with" thread.

EMAWgeddon with a self-help list provided by Pete may be in the opposite list

The first time that I lived alone was a stretch of several years right after undergrad.  Always closed the bathroom door, and left the bedroom open.

I loved it.

But, I nearly burnt the Lawrence Meadow Brook apartment complex to the ground during a failed make-your-own-candles experiment.  Roommates have always helped my decision making process.

Never close the bathroom door, sleep with the bedroom door closed to keep the dog from roaming, otherwise I'd leave it open.  Regularly sleep on the couch and dont even enter the bedroom for days at a time.

Lived alone for a year after graduating, didnt like it. Much better to have roomates so you can have someone around for random adventures.

I did turn my living room into the bedroom, slept on the couch most nights unless the gf was over.

I would've loved to be a fly on the wall for this.  Or to watch you explain it to the cops if it had happened

Lived alone for about 8 months.  Almost went insane.  If it wasn't for all of the girls I was having one night stands with I would have lost it.

I am a pack animal for sure.

Usually in a basket in the living room.  Dirty clothes get thrown in the bedroom though the doorway.  My work clothes dont need to be hung up, so its mostly laziness of not putting them in the dresser.

Im a lazy slob when there is no girl in my life, girls change everything.

I have a slight preference to live alone, but roommates can be fun too.

An old roommate and I made them once, you can get everything at hobby lobby.  You can make your own designs or put something cool in the middle that you can see through the glass,  so I understand the allure.  No near disasters though.

Yeah, he said it was awhile ago.  Also, late at night your premium candles can be hard to find.  Especially in a wasteland like Lawrence.

And there are only so many options available to the typical consumer.

I should have clarified this....I had a bunch of leftover candles where the wicks had burned out, but there was plenty of wax left.  So, I decided to melt them down and make new candles.  This is when things started to take a turn for the worst.

I think you need to address your blatantly false comments about roommates.

I think you need to address your blatantly false comments about roommates.

That's both true and not true, depending upon the topic.  For example, one of our prior mutual roommates would have never let me catch the entire apartment on fire, but one would have.

Similarly, both would have been complicit in activities that made me think I was going to die, but both would have also been supportive when I called the "I think I might be dying" hotline the next day....good stuff AND bad stuff.

I'm all for a good candle, but making your own candles?  :dunno:

Lived alone for my last semester.  Was glorious.  Anything more though and I would def have ended up with a drinking problem.

Was a fantastic 6 months though.

I feel like we were all a little too complicit in your cooking activities.

I'll make a motion for a Capital City Pak so that the actual pak that happens in Manhattan seems more exclusive by having said no thanks to other pak opportunities.

TC³(TopCityChopCity)pak this Saturday anyone?  :excited:

living alone sucks. but there is nothing better than win your wife leaves for the weekend.

I devolve rapidly when my wife leaves. Within 24 hrs, I go from cultured and well-dressed cooking lemon mustard red leaf salad with fresh fried crab cakes and avocado/radish garnish to sitting on the couch in my boxers eating beef jerky and beer for dinner while watching Tosh.0. She's going to Kuwait for two weeks on Saturday. Sunday is shaping up as a no-pants day.

Also, I live seven-style when alone. In the next 14 days, I will probably fall asleep in 5-6 different rooms in the house. All food will be grilled.
