Also, various math teaching references.

Most coaches are going to be in favor of expanding the tourney, because it's good for their job security.

this talking point is so stupid. like fans aren't going to adjust expectations according to the perceived difficulty of achieving an ncaa bid.

You really want to talk about fans adjusting expectations? Really? K-State fans pre-Huggy would have gone apeshit to make a 96-team tourney. So would NU and ISU fans now (I left CU off since they don't have fans).

Most K-State fans would have been pretty happy to make the NIT under Wooly a year or two. Rename it "NCAA Tourney 65-96 seeds" and they'd have been even happier. Expanding the field is perfect job security for basketball coaches at football-first schools.
You're not usually one to underestimate the typical college fan's stupidity, sys.

My favorite part of tournament expansion talk is the fact that most people against expansion don't recognize the absurdity of the current format .

anything but 65 teams is an aberration to be shunned by the godly and pure.

My biggest issue with expanding is it would make the print really small for a bracket printed on 8.5x11 paper. That's about it.

Explain.
You have 30+ teams that have ZERO realistic shot at winning (and really, that number is probably low). what's the harm in adding 30 more?

Explain.
At least a quarter of the teams are automatic qualifiers that have no chance in hell of winning a game, yet the NCAA bills it as the "Best 65" teams in college basketball.

You think anybody has the nutz to call Frank out and give him a crazy long division problem? :users:

frank struggled to figure out that 128 was not half of 347.

128 teams=> 8 regions of 16.
then instead of final four we get elite 8 at one final destination. :crossfingers: just like the elite kshsaa bball finals in places like the expocentre

Let all the teams play, that we they can be deciding a National Champion about the time the NBA Conference Semi-Finals Start.

3 games first weekend. 2 games 2nd weekend (a little rest). 3 games last weekend. <= same length as current tournament.

how about 3-3-2 instead? although i like having a final destination with 8 teams instead of 4.

Would be an annoyance when filling out a bracket. 11"x17" paper is always hard to come by at the company printer.

I know, I saw it. If you called out repetitive posts all day, you would never have time to do anything but follow pissclams around. :dunno:
-
IMO, if they expanded, people would just start "filling out their bracket" after the field was reduced to 64. Like anyone wastes time now waiting to fill out their bracket until they know who the play in team is.

Exactly. It would be like the current bowl system in college football.

Poor example, snyderites would eat OB's Depends to play in the Eagle Bank or Humanatarian Bowls every year.

Frank anyone in the fracking face that thinks they should expand. Seriously, eat a plate of goat dicks losers

Yes, some of them would. But, I think MOST non-tard fans would like to see some progress, and not just a string of 6-6 seasons. I think it would be the same for basketball. If a coach made the field of 96 with a 20ish seed and got bounced in the first round repeatedly, fans would start to get a little restless. I agree with sys that they would adjust expectations. Especially, the big time donors who ultimately pull the strings.
-
oops. there's only 7 rounds in a 128 team tourney. so do 2-2-3 and have a final 8 at one destination. 8 regions of 16 who play the same format as they do now. reseed the final 8.
:bwpopcorn:
-
Oh man...
I do not worry about all of that stuff. I worry about the next game. I never liked long distance running as a kid, I learned that if I worried about where the finish line was at, I would get tired halfway through the race. If I focused on 15 yards in front of me, I usually got to the finish line pretty well. It is the way we coach. We coach for today and then try to win the next one. Once that is taken care of then we worry about whatever is up next. When we get to the finish line, we will do everything in our power to be strong, so that we can sprint through it. I use the example of when we were 8-2 after 10 games. We fought hard to finish 10-6.

just coach speak-y. he might as well of said "just keep sawing wood" and then talked about his love for a wooden puppet.

Every coach has his own version of "I'm just worried about the next game on our schedule", Frank is just better at it than most

Frank is just more aggressive than most, per his overall personality. He comes off borderline offended that anyone assumes he's looking past the next day.

I never played there (bum knees ), but I watched my school win a couple state titles there and our girls team had a pretty amazing run one year before getting curbstomped by Miege. Loved the atmosphere there, never thought a largely average venue in a shitty town like Topeka could feel so big time

When will the new "Frankuary" T-shirts be available to purchase?
Really would have loved to have one when I served as a scrub/replacement 17'er on Tuesday night...

Would be more fun to have a "Frankuary" T-shirt if you were on the leading edge of the Frankuary curve as opposed to waiting for the whole world to say, "Yes, Frankuary has arrived." JMHO

In that case go to threads and make one.

Baylor is good enough to represent a quality win but beatable enough to make Saturday’s game intriguing. Upsetting the Bears would alleviate a great deal of postseason pressure, though coach Frank Martin doesn’t view it that way.
“If we were in the Peanut Butter and Jelly Conference, it’s a great opportunity,” he said. “In the Big 12, that’s your homework every single night, teams like that.”
-
that's really very funny.
-
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Conference. My God.

"I say this all the time, and people look at me like I have six heads, we don't practice any differently," Martin said. "We don't change. We have a system in place, and we stick to those principles. We make adjustments on individual personnel."
