Title: Mercury: Burton expects to play next year, not redshirt..
Post by: The Manhatter on February 01, 2012, 09:13:00 PM
Quote
Burton said he expects to play wide receiver for the Wildcats, and does not expect to redshirt.

"I think I'm going in as a wide receiver and I will be doing a lot of special teams, and we will see how that goes," he said. "I'm going to work as hard as I can to get on the field as fast as possible."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior chose K-State over interest from Oklahoma State, UCLA and South Florida. Associate head coach Sean Snyder was his primary recruiter, but wide receivers coach Michael Smith aided in closing the recruitment when Burton committed in November.

Burton met with members of the K-State coaching staff and future teammates this past week on his official visit.

He said the group of receivers he spent time around all told him what it would take to have a chance at making an impact early.

"Those guys on the official really took me in as a family," Burton said. "I spent a lot of time with Curry (Sexton) and he is a really great guy and such a hard worker. Brod (Smith) was my host and you can learn a lot from those guys. I want to learn from them and from guys like (Tyler) Lockett. They're all hard workers."

Burton said he is prepared for the tough weight program that K-State features, and hopes he can use it to his advantage to get up to 210-215 pounds before next fall, all while maintaining his speed.

Polite should be loved for his Dr Pepper TD alone... :D

Dennis... Marshall...  :bawl:

True. Dennis was definitely the bigger disappointment to me.

Also, when Burton becomes a stud receiver for KSU. I'm nominating "Burton Boards" for the renaming of the FB message board. Could easily turn their logo into a D as well and make some nice D. Burton shirts. etc.

Philly- type of of sandwich. filly is a young female horse too young to be called a mare, a young dane. There are several specific definitions in use.

In most cases filly is a female horse under the age of four years.
In some nations, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, the world of horse racing sets the cutoff age for fillies as younger than five years.[1][2]
The equivalent term for a male is a colt. When horses of either sex are less than one year of age, they are referred to as foals.[3] Horses between one and two years of age may also be called yearlings. Fillies are also thought of as young danes that are attractive.

Fanning, I know what a Filly is. I also know what a Philly is. I was trying to make a joke, by taking your heterosexual bragging and shading them homosexual. Ha ha ha....

It's all in good fun man! It's ok to laugh, with me or at me, I don't care which.

So the term is specific to the Danish?

My roommate works in athletic training and was in charge of recording numbers for the "combine-esque" workout today.

Lockett: 4.37

Burton: 4.41

Both electronically timed.

That doesn't suck.

Casting my vote for this to be his official goEMAW nickname. Mercury Burton blows Scoop Jardine out of the water.

Mercury Burton has a very nice ring to it.  It looks as though you have given Deante his nickname.  Do I get five percent credit for writing the subject line?

If Locket's 40 time is 4.37, his 60 yard time must be about 8 seconds. That guy got ran down more on long runs than Jerry Sandusky chasing small children.

What are you talking about.  The only one I can think of where he truly got caught from behind was the 80 yard punt return in the 4th quarter of the OSU game and he did that with a lacerated kidney.

shivvy's post is what we refer to in the sports message board posting as a FAIL.  Lockett beat a florida state sprint champ to the end zone vs. Texas Tech.  He was caught once this year (OSU) likely due to playing in that game with a lacerated kidney.

Shouldn't he have scored before the half of the KU game?  Or was it just cause he cut back when he didn't need to? I don't remember.

Once he realized it was unlikely he would score, he knelt down for a field goal. Didn't want to run all the time off the clock in case he didn't make it. IIRC, a guy came across the field.

Yeah, I think he lost where the defender was. IMO, he could have scored.

Quit with the Lockett comparisons and think about this:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Justin-Blackmon-73330

We're talking about a townie who didn't camp at all the right places and didn't have a Brian Butler to set up a pay-per-view website.  The measurables are similar...maybe better.
