I could tell Rodney did when I first saw him. I thought Mark Young had it. You knew Beasley had it. Pullen found it. Does Angel have it now?
-
steve dave already proclaimed that.
mark young, it? pfft.
-
Nick Williams seemed like he had "it"
-
Wally got it from Sheldon.
-
here is ar-t, showing it off.
Kansas State freshman guard Angel Rodriguez
On missing free throws
"In the first half, I missed three of them, which is rare."
-
Angel will be good if he figures out his scoring distance from the rim. He drives too deep for his current skill set. Irving has really found his. Also needs to cut down his dumb turnovers. I think he'll do both and be a stud by his junior year.

Sounds like a quote from precocious young gunslinger cum NFL superstar Josh Freeman.

he'll get it. Turnovers and getting your crap swatted are very freshman-y things to do. Im not worried when he has freshman moments a long a they start decreasing over the next 2 seasons

Mark Young and Dominique Sutton. Two peas in a pod.

I'm calling bullshit on this. Angel needs to keep taking it to the rack. Yesterday he did 6 times...he drew 3 fouls, scored on one of those (I think he only made 2 of those 5 free throws though), turned it over once, missed one shot where he was too deep, and missed one uncontested layup. If he makes the FTs and the uncontested layup (which he generally does), that's 9 points in 6 possessions, and 3 fouls on OSU. :driving:

You're making your point off one game. He's driven tons of times this season only to get blocked or otherwise turn it over. I'm not opposed to smaller guards taking it all the way to the rim, but he doesn't have the skills at this point to finish well. You're blind if you don't see that.
I do think he actually has good down court vision. There are times when he's really pushing it that he puts his head down and can't see what's going on, but if he's not doing that he often sees good passing lanes to the open man. Simply put, he makes a lot of freshman mistakes but has shown some things that can't be taught, so I think he'll be a good one. He also needs to start working on a faster release on his shot and not bringing the ball to his knees at the beginning of his shot motion. I fear that may never completely change, though.

only way to learn is to do it. also, you're exaggerating his lack of ability to finish. he finishes ok, not great, but ok.
-
The point being that he is improving in that regard.

Agreed. If we think back to the Frosh/Soph years of Jake and the JR season of Denis, they both went to the rim often but got swatted or missed the bunny while drawing the foul (or not getting the call at all.).
In Denis' SR. year and Jake's JR/SR season, we all saw how well they drove, drew contact AND finished. I believe there were several discussions about this during those seasons with sys and _fan. Both of them were adamant about being patient as those things will come with strength and experience.

Actually, I'm not exaggerating. He doesn't finish well around the rim unless he's wide open, sans the BU game ending.
I'm not opposed to him trying now and again, but he can learn in practice with our guys clubbing him, but there's no real defense to the times when he could pull up 7-8 feet from the basket and knock down an easy jumper like Irving has learned to do, or a tear drop like Sprads. The thing is, he has no other weapons in his arsenal right now, if he's driving, he's driving all the way to the rim 95% of the time.
-
this discussion is getting a little far afield of it. here's another quote where ar-t takes it out, walks it around and makes sure people know where it sleeps at night.
"I knew Coach Frank (Martin) had never won here before, since he was the head coach, so to me, that was enough. Five years is enough."
-
Remember the behind the back dribble and floater near the free throw line against Alabama? I knew he had "it" then. As soon as he learns to quit the silly reaching on D, he'll see the floor more. He's already leaps and bounds better then Denis on D. I hope Angel never quits gambling for steals on defense either. So fun to watch.

Anthony Beane had it.

kstate isn´t even recruiting his kid. didn't try to get blackman's kid to walk on either, a couple of years back. i should have mentioned those in the frank crits thread.

I’m a point guard, but sometimes I like scoring.

Not that I agree with KITN, because I don't but Angel got away with some stuff like wild shots and leaving his feet on the baseline to make passes because of A&M's vastly inferior front line. As of today TT, A&M, and OSU have some of the worst collection of bigs I have ever seen.
